- After 2 years Huawei released the successor to the Mate 40 Pro the Mate 50 Pro. Can it really convince in terms of cameras now that Huawei is not only software banned but also struggles to put good hardware into their flagship phones?
What do you think about the Mate 50 Pro? Is it a worth enough upgrade from the Mate 40 Pro?

I was really waiting for this video! It's definetely better in a lot of aspects, I really love the variable aperture, the zoom and the wider ultra Wide. It really gave battle, and I'll wait for the p60 pro to upgrade my beast 40 pro

Thanks for the in-depth video, in contrast to the other comments I actually care more about video than photos! Especially the zoom and stabilizer (to record events etc) I always appreciate when reviews talk about this

Vielen Dank für die kurzweiligen, technisch versierten und gut umgesetzten Vergleichsvideos. Die Aufnahmen des Mate 50 Pro gefallen wir sehr gut. Das hätte ich aufgrund des kleineren Sensors (im Vergleich zum 40 Pro) nicht erwartet.
Bisher verwende ich noch mit großer Freude mein in die Jahre gekommenes Mate 20 Pro. Ein gebrauchtes Mate 50 Pro werde ich aber als Nachfolger in Betracht ziehen, sobald die Preise noch etwas gefallen sind.

Why you didnt do night photo comparison?
To be very honest I am disappointed with photo processing of Mate 50 pro: I mean oversharpening applied which I hate... therefore Mate 40 pro photos look more natural and less processed... which is better for me.
Also superwide camera feels like a step back... I love cine lens on my Mate 40 pro and it will be difficult for me to give it up...
P.s. Much appreciate your efforts in this comparison!

Heve You ever take images in raw? What you you thing about shutter lag, lack of Raw mode for tele sensor in P50, Image over processing etc.

@@lltechview What means similar? 1sek lag is similar to no lag but image You'll get is a little different. As I know for many years Huawei phones have problem with shutter lag in PRO mode. P50 series also.
@@msStoDwa Thats why P50 Pro and Mate 50 Pro have a dedicated snapshot made that gets rid of the delay that is there in normal mode
What does a dedicated snapshot mean? A few days ago, I saw that photos in RAW, as before in the P40pro and 30pro, have a shutter delay that makes it practically impossible to take a photo in motion, action. Even DXO Mark wrote about it for the first time, although they were blind to this problem before.
@@msStoDwa The snapshot mode is a special mode that you can find under more that has no noticeable shutter delay.

Via aperture mode or pro mode. It does not work during recording though

`Thanks for the comparison but looking at the cases when you are showing the specs of each phone it looks like the Mate 40 pro's case has a plastic cover over the lenses, if this true then did you take the Mate 40 out of the case for the comparison as the plastic on the case would surely make it a lot worse as it looks a bit cloudy.
There is no plastic case on the official Huawei case
@@lltechview It is true. But I see that you have a glass protector on the lenses of the Mate 40 Pro that perhaps affects the image.

@@lltechview Thanks for answering. I own a Mate 40 Pro and I'm sure I can clearly see an addition on the original glass at various points in your video (0:17, 1:17, 17:25). Maybe your unit came with extra protection pre-installed, but I'm sure there's something extra put on top of the original glass.

I think mate 40 pro optics is still better or comparable to today's flagships. If it updates on software or gcam support it can do well i think. Have u tried it with gcam maybe?

HELP! I have watched A LOT of your great videos and other channels that compare these types of camera phones. BUT no one has shown the AI Tracking feature! Please can you show us this feature? This is a top requirement I am looking for in a camera phone. As far as I know only Huawei has this feature. Do other phones have this feature? I am not interested AI gestures, but AI tracking where it follows a person moving around close up and afar with auto focus.

Keep it at landscape mode though as portrait with the ultrawide angle super distorts your face or make you look very tall.

Das Mate 50 Pro ist neuer Spitzenreiter bei DXOMARK mit einer Gesamtbewertung von 149 Punkten. Unabhängig davon wischt es meiner Meinung nach mit dem Mate 40 Pro den Boden. Die Unterschiede zum P50 Pro hingegen sind marginal.
The Mate 50 Pro is the new leader at DXOMARK with an overall score of 149 points. Regardless, it wipes the floor with the Mate 40 Pro in my opinion. The differences to the P50 Pro on the other hand are marginal.
Da hast du recht. Dx0mark würde ich nicht immer volles vertrauen schenken, weil die manchmal nicht nachvollziehbare Entscheidungen treffen. Aber nichts desto trotz lohnt es sich mal in ihre Tests reinzulesen.
Hi one question i have nova 9pro and recenlty update to HARMONYOS 4 , but before buy it i want badly the MATE 40pro ,now i find it in china discount to 634 euros from 840 ,worth it to buy this phone in 2023?Or to wait to drop the price more and buy Mate 60pro in 2024?Is little confused but i want one phone from this series dont want the mate50pro .thanks

1- camera Over sharping. and dark.
2- screen resolution issues. 30% lost quality.
@@superme4595 Just the opposite - oversharpening - sometimes unpleasant for main sensor with EMUI11 - was seriously toned down with EMUI12. Would be nice if they did it for UWA lens (and 50MP AI JPG) as well - that one is still bit ovesharpened - but still by far better than P40P (and P50P + M50P). Dark shots?? Have not seen any - but I recognized that HUA EMUI 12 used more sensible approach to HDR - letting it have more deep shadows - and that way better tonality richness (3d look). Over-HDRing leads usually to overly bright and very unnatural looking shots (highlights down/shadows up. And screen resolution issues? Setting the resolution to MAX - I do not feel I have lost anything. At least I cannot see anything. Overall new algorithms in EMUI 12 are more powerhungry - but photography-wise more advanced.

Das Mate 50 Pro ist insgesamt etwas besser bei der Kamera. Auch die Performance deutlich besser. Das liegt vor allen Dingen an den 120Hz beim Mate 50 Pro

Ich denke das Mate 50 Pro ist aktuell etwa gleich auf mit dem P50 Pro. Die Low Light Performance ist etwas besser durch besseres Rauschverhalten bis Algorithmen.
Es schlägt in meinen auch das iPbone 14 Pro gerade bei HDR und schärfe im Zoom bereich über 3.5x. Das Galaxy S22 Ultra ist besser bei 10x Zooms und drüber.

Its good to read some of their findings and tests but their score system is something I am not always agreeing on. I choose interesting camera phones not by Dx0mark scores. I advise other people also not to trust it blindly but using your own experience and multiple sources maybe if you are not able to try it out on your own

Yeah you might be right though the main camera improved a lot more on the Mate 40 Pro
Mate 40 Pro colors are better if you switch to Leica Smooth when shooting in auto mode, except if you're using the telephoto lens.
But man, is that 64MP tele on the 50 so much better. Always said 3x is the sweet spot for telephoto, and the extra resolution makes up for the lower reach, and then some.
Main sensor, given that you can lock the 40 into different color profiles, it's a wash. I still like the bigger older sensor better.
Also would like to see a comparison of 50MPAI, as in that mode, the 40 is even sharper and more detailed than many 108 MP phones. The P50 Pro's version wasn't as good, IMHO, so I'd like to see if the Mate 50 has improved on that.
