- Giving you a sound test of both Brass and Alloy versions of every Crane brand bicycle bell, some of the highest quality bike bells available.
The Suzu, Karen, E-ne, Hand-painted ones, Riten, etc -- even the new Revolver.
Brass dome models are tested first. Then the Aluminum dome models.
The brass has more prolonged resonance in their ring. The alloy has good volume too, and won't lose their original shine as fast as brass does.
Recorded using Canon SLR built-in mic at about 7 feet away.

I'm a firm believer that if one is going to sell bicycle bells online, there should be sound samples. A shitty sounding bell is unacceptable. I'm so happy to have found this!
I agree and was disappointed that Crane added audio samples to only a portion of their bell models

It took a lot of searching (amazing that some expect us to buy a bell without ever hearing the sound!), and so grateful to find it was the Crane Riten Brass bell, so I can purchase it now. It's the perfect "I-am-a- bike-getting -ready-to-pass-you" warning-without-causing -pedestrian-,panic bell out there! Love the sound, especially sounded three times. Much better than yelling "on your left" because in that moment, no pedestrian remembers which way is left! A proper, beautiful bell, and a pedestrian knows you are there. Many thanks!

The sound of the full sized Suzu (brass) is just magnificent. Wouldn't want to miss it. :)

The full size Suzu has such a nice sound I feel like it would confuse people rather than get them out of the way.
i have a similar sounding bell made by the Lion Bell Works out of England . it does confuse people and does get them out of the way . the sound is so unusual that it makes them jump to one side of the road/trail etc. 😂

I have Suzu Bell's in brass on more than one bike for many years, it's one of the loudest I ever encountered.
Brass bells win Hands down. Louder, clearer, better reverberation and the ring lasts longer.

@@YUTfan2 yes. Great on trails. Pleasantly loud enough and recognizable to alert people from several feet away but not alarming enough to annoy or make them jump out of their skins.
I heard from another reviewer that the 'Crane Mini Karen' has a tendency to ring when riding over bumpy roads!

Thank your for the comparison. The "Crane Suzu" bell is obviously louder and its sound lasts longer. Doesn't the CZcams sound compression makes a difference in terms of sound level? Is the sound close to what we hear in real life, compared to what we listen from the video?
It is pretty close to the real bell sound. The SLR's mike is pretty sensitive. I put the camera several feet away, but the bells as well as the birds end up sounding very close.

Getting tired of shouting out to everyone, decided time to get a bell 😂 Suzu mini might be just the ticket. Love the regular's sound but it's kind of big.
The Suzu Mini has real pleasant sound IMO.
i've just bought the Crane Mini suzu ... Sounds great, but how do you fix it to the steering bar???? it's a solid metal ring... you can't tighten it ... There's also a spacer ring, but I don't see how you stop the outer ring from just moving around the inner spacer ring...I see screws here in the video, that are simply not on my bell

Does the Suzu brass in black sounds as good as the regular brass
sounds the same. the black finish is very thin.
Only point of criticism for me is that they do not seem to have modernized their mountings on the "vintage bells" ... today's handlebars are powder coated or painted ... a metal strip tightly screwed to that is not exactly something I would prefer ... apart from that especially the SUZU is just PERFECT.
The metal clamps can scratch. We recommend putting a strip of used inner tube or electrical tape between the clamp and the bar.

Paint really seems to affect the sustain.
The painted bells are done on the aluminum dome bells, which dont have as much sustain as the brass. Aluminum does stay shiney longer than brass

None of the bells sound that loud in this video, likely automatic level recording - you really need a loud bell above traffic noise. I have a Riten bell which is jolly loud and much better than the bells that just have a single ring.
Get a squeeze bulb horn!
The ones out there for bikes are subpar - at least last time we checked.
