  • I purchased my first tractor a Kubota L2501. I do a complete and full review and discuss the financial decision to make a purchase of a Kubota tractor $$$. We demonstrate and give you all the suggested tips on what to look for when doing a after deliver inspection to make sure your tractor is ready to go with no missing fluids or grease etc. I go over my first 3 accessories I recommend for getting started with your Kubota L2501 or any tractor for that matter.

Got my new 2502 recently and when I checked the front axle gear oil it was 2 quarts low. I learned from videos like yours that all points need to be checked. Glad I had learned that.

it never ceases to amaze me that some cherry who just bought his first tractor posts a video claiming he's all in the know and talking crap on other brands, stating the one he bought is the best. I've owned a few different brands in my time, my Present is a Kubota 2013 L3800 , skid steer attach bucket, 524 loader, manual shift. Right now it's the best out there primarily because it always does the work for me I need to do. So what's the best brand? The one that does what you need to do every time you need it to do it. Oh and the manual shift will jerk a HST all around the yard all day long. I have no issues shifting the manual, I find it very easy from forward to reverse. I will never see the reason to bash other manufacturers just because I own this specific brand ( FAN BOY ) . I can only share about the machines I have owned and have experience with from operating and maintaining them. For this type of content I will refer to Messick's. You never hear Neil bash other brands , but he will professionally educate you on the machines he sells and services. I can't say this video is bad as you make great points for the new owner to maintain his or her machine. Shows you absolutely did your home work. Good going and may you have many years of good service from your machine as I have with mine.

Thanks for the video. Since this is a beginner overview, never get in the habit of using a red "gas" can around your tractor to deliver diesel fuel. Diesel cans are yellow for a reason so there won't be a mix up. If someone uses yours or their red can and mixes things up and puts gasoline in the diesel fuel tank there will be an expensive repair bill. "Justrite AccuFlow 7250220 Type II Galvanized Steel Safety Can with 5/8" Flexible Spout, 5 Gallon Capacity, Yellow". They are expensive but work great for filling a tank and controlling the flow with a cut off (that you control). Obviously, a tank can be overfilled even with the $30 pump or the Justrite can. Since we are talking refueling, there are bugs (believe it or not) which can cause problems for the diesel fuel system if you leave tanks and equipment unused for and extended time. Look up diesel biocide if you are not familiar with this problem.

Thank you for the tips and feedback. The red gas can was only for a quick example for the gas pump purpose. I have yellow for diesel but was too lazy to lift the can while full for the video.

Great video. Don't forget you have another grease point on the front axle in the middle. New 2501 owner myself. Did the same checks and found I was a gallon low of super udt2 and the front axle was low as well..

Thanks. I did notice that last center grease zerk after the fact. You can only hope when finding axle fluid that low from the beginning that it was an honost mistake.

There is no comparison in pulling power between the gear drive and the HST. Messicks did a video where they prove that beyond a shadow of a doubt. You lose a lot of power to the wheels when you pump all the hydraulic fluid through all the orifices.

I would say more of a first-time buyers video for people who may have "seen" one but never actually operated one. I myself operate grapple cranes, loaders, track hoe, Bailers, bobcats, and a ton of other heavy equipment. This is my first tractor I have purchased and figured this video would be useful for any other new first-time buyers and even possibly someone's first time operating one. Thanks for watching.

@56 minutes... If I was going to service the machine, I would probably just detach the loader and not rely on the lock mechanism. Safety first.

I am torn between picking up an L2501 or an L2502. I definitely want a 25HP 4x4 HST model because I don’t want to mess around with DEF fluid and I chose the L because I’m going to be needing to lift small round bales of hay and the smaller models I would be exceeding or maxing out the loader. It would be nice to save some money with the older model but I feel quite hesitant because of the setup of the brakes and the manual PTO. Have you had any issues having the brake pedals directly above the treadle? My 18 acres is entirely on a hill and it is very attractive to me to be able to have full control of both the treadle and the brakes at the same time. I also worry about accidentally hitting one pedal when I was intending to use the other. How has your experience with your machine been so far?

  • @tractortalkwithgary1271

New subscriber here. I have the gear drive version which is a better fit for my needs. I also have the ag tires. Also know as R1’s.
I use mine for mowing over 100 acres of timber/ pasture. It has to fit in some snug places under tree limbs and between trees. It is a fantastic fit for my operation.

Thanks for the sub. I would imagine with the spread you maintain after checking out your channel in some of your videos, you have had a suitable amount of time to understand these machines. As far as the HST goes, it will be a reasonable powerd machine for the applications I will use it on. We had a gear driven Yanmar when I was young but never really understood the dynamics of one's transmitions ability to another, but now that I have entered the tractor world officially I will marinate on any advice or experience I get.

@@reviewittv1802 , for loader work, the HST really shines. I need my L2501 to get down and pull hard dragging up tree tops and to some extent lids in some steep terrain. It needs all the pulling power available to it. Having said that, it will break traction before it loses power. Love my L2501 and you will love yours too.

The top plug on the axle is the fill hole and the other plug is how you check to see if you have enough fluid. When you take the second plug off the fluid should start to dribble out as demonstrated in the video.
