People seems to forget the whole world were different in the past. The same goes for exampel with jokes and sexual conduct. Everyone over 40-50 years has done, said or experienced something that wouldn't be acceptable today. And normal humans evolve and follow the time they live in. Others (like MAGA's) wants to reverse evolvement/evolution so they can feel safe because they can't adjust. A part of understanding the norms of the society changing, is also to admit wrongdoing in the past.

Difference was that when I got older, I decided to delve deeper into the origins of the religion and the bible. Most don't do that, but many have and found out it is all just mythology. What some churches teach is cherry--picked verses that make the religion sound all cuddly and sweet, but the truth is that it is and has always been brutal and destructive and is based on the mythologies of an ancient middle eastern culture that was brutal, ignorant and superstitious.

I only hope that we can get there again one day. Our church regularly travels abroad to help the poor and disenfranchised in third world countries as well as having ongoing charities that do the same. We expect no praise, adulation or tribute for simply doing what's right. I wish that the modern right wing "evangelicals" could understand this concept. I don't understand their hatred for certain people and ongoing culture wars. Maybe they need to quit mouthing off and read their Bibles.

I think you and many people, got over focused on the concept of God, and not enough on the principles that God represents, or stand for. God is Love. But most important thing is the love part. You can see it, feel it, and act upon it. Something tells me that you have a lot of love in your life, whether you acknowledge it or not. I attend church every Sunday, but if God would judge you and I competitively, I may be considered to be the more selfish between the two of us. Thus a 'God' would judge you to be better than me, in that regard. But also there are many other principles, such a forgiveness, mercifulness, compassion, charity, etc, to be considered as well. The well known story of "The Good Samaritan" illustrates this well. So I do not judge you negatively. And this is why i took the time to explain this.

They're talking about religion because a fringe sect of pseudo-Christianity, which preaches the opposite of what Jesus taught and what most Christians believe, is currently taking over America, and trying to establish a theocracy. It's not a coincidence that evangelicals are much more likely than other Christians to also believe in QAnon. It's a very dangerous cult, with a lot of political and financial power all over the world. It's a bit hard to combat this if we don't talk about the people who are doing it, and why.

Was Dr King really appealing to a higher power, or was he appealing to higher principles that we should honor and respect? He appealed to principles in the scriptures, but he also appealed to values in the Constitution. These don't need any help from a higher power. We are capable of honoring them if we choose.

    Keep thy religion to thyself.
    Faith/worship is a private matter.
The ONLY way to treat all beliefs fairly, is to keep it out of legislation, courts and public service.
You have a right to worship as you please.
Enjoy your religion responsibly, and strive to be a worthy ambassador of it.
Real Christians.... Y'know, the ones anonymously charitable, caring for their fellow man, embracing humanity in all its diversity, displaying compassion, reaping the benefits of their communities and congregations.....like Jesus would've? They should be more vocal in denouncement of Hateful zealous rhetoric at the pulpit, in the name of Christianity, AND its presence at the podium.
