Very good video. The ceremony of the elekes is a lovely ceremony in which the receiver not only receives his/her necklaces, but also is introduced the members of the godparent's house. They usually assist in the ceremony, share their blessings on you, and welcome you into your new spiritual life.
First off, I highly recommend that you start by working with your ancestors if you don't already and ask and pray to them to guide you to the right Padrinos for you. Second, I recommend that you do as much research and asking around about people that you can and do as much research about the religion as you can. also, don't be afraid to ask for people's lineages, either, too.
Not everybody does this way,everybody does it diffrent ways,nobody knows which way is the rite perfect way to prepare the santeria beads...each santeria store is diffrent n does the beads in diffrent ways,i wear the 7 african colors ones for protection and the gold n yellow for love n they help me well...just saying it not ALL the same,one thing is correct is never throw n leave the beads around like nuthing...i take very good care of mines well..some peoples just leave it around.

Here in NYC it seems colored eleke looking beads are all the rage. Folks will be dripping in 20 or so of them in color combination I don't recognize. Yes, I have seen the Seven African Powers eleke being sported more also. My Padrino said some houses may have been responding to the similarities of some of the Orisha color eleke combinations to gang color beaded necklaces and may have gone to desperate measures to try to distance the two. Such confusion cost one of my God brother's life....

+Javier Rivera Awesome question, yes it does, but also depends on the person. Some people feed their elekes and some dont. Orisha worship has sacrifice so almost every ceremony includes a feeding.
+Cathy Mandujano they dont need much cleaning if you wear them properly. They protect you■ not the other way around. If you mess up the energyflow. ☆ you dropped it on the floor or someone other than a child touches it.☆ use Mother EARTH things .. rinse with spring water, coconut water or a little smoke. No man made products! From what i learned.(NOT from Santeria but similar belief groups around the world) . I think santerias are tooo paraniod and they need to calm down and let your guadian angels do their job.
I use leche de coco when someone touches or violates mis collares. I never sleep, bathe, or engage in sexual activities while wearing mis elekes. I typically hang them to dry after, and I also hang them above my bed while I sleep.
So yes people, you CAN'T receive elekes through the mail and a Palero or Palera CAN'T bless the elekes UNLESS THEY'RE ALREADY crowned in Ocha. Palo IS SEPARATE from Ocha/Lucumi.
I miss going to fiestas. I love the environment but the last tambor I went to I wanted to leave but felt I would be offending the santo. My padrino/cousin told me that I was correct...the place was not 'set up' correctly for the tambor for Ellegua. I also remember people looked at me with some awe and my padrino told me that the people saw what I had and they were looking at me with respect.

But how do I become apart of Santeria? My grandfather has passed away. I don't know anyone else who is into Santeria to ask questions. I just have my alter and Collares and ceramonies that I know. So who can I go to so I can be apart of this beautiful religion?

I received my 5 elekes from my god mother before i turned 10 years old. I vaguely remember a ceremony involving getting my head rogated, being presented to her orishas and 4 peaces of coconuts being thrown on the floor over and over again. i am well over 40 and i still have 3 of my original elekes. My mother and my god mother died long ago. I am many years removed from the religion. How and where do you suggest i start to reconnect with my roots in santeria?

I recently got initiated into an ile and my elekes weren’t fed blood. When I asked my padrino about it he said he doesn’t feed elekes blood until the warriors ceremony. Is this normal?

I'd recommend trying to find your God family if you can and search the areas where they're at. You're bound to find someone. Also, do all of the research you can about Santeria/Lucumi, too. What state do you live in if you don't mind my asking? I know of a couple people in Maryland and New Jersey. I met one Santero who's Padrino lives in Brooklyn. I also know of someone in florida who would be able to point you towards good people in Florida, too.

Uno puede consagrar lo que uno quiera. Nadie puede decir que lo que otros hacen es mal. Si la persona no hacen su investigación, es su problema. Todos los collares no son de Orisha solamente. Hay muchas reglas con collares. Pero creo que estoy de acuerdo que uno no debe creer que el collar lo va ser babalawo. Gracias por su video.

I'd recommend trying to find your God family if you can and search the areas where they're at. You're bound to find someone. Also, do all of the research you can about Santeria/Lucumi, too. What state do you live in if you don't mind my asking? I know of a couple people in Maryland and New Jersey. I met one Santero who's Padrino lives in Brooklyn. I also know of someone in florida who would be able to point you towards good people in Florida, too.
