Remember when they had the Carnival in the Sky, The free Shows on the Stage near the Carnival in the Sky, The Voodoo Lounge, the poker room, the free shuttle to and from the Strip, the Buffet, The WSOP. Good luck with recreating all those things that were good about The Rio.

Koala you need a lot of great things about the Rio. Spend about a week at the Rio in the late 90s for my honeymoon. I remembered the room was over 1000 sq feet and the Mardi Gras event. Took the family back there 2017 and the place was in shambles with everything cut out. No more shuttle, shows etc. So would be nice if they can bring back the luster.

348 million dollars for the renovation is not enough. They would need to spend 2 or 3 times that to make a meaningful difference. In recent years, the Sahara and Tropicana tried to short-spend on renovations and we all know how awful those projects turned out. The renovation disaster at the Virgin is also worth nothing. Old casinos in Vegas are notoriously difficult and expensive to modernize.

I was there in January for my birthday. I like the renovated room. Looks much more modern. I didn't wait long to check in and the service was great.
My only complaint is the 6 to 5 blackjack pay. It's even ridiculous to get that on a 6 deck/15 min. I know most casinos are doing that now, but if you're next to Gold Coast who is paying 3 to 2 on their 2 and 6 deck, probably try being competitive. Or else I'm going next door and putting in my money next door.

Totally Doable. I remember when the Rio was THE place to go. BUT= that was before there was even transit in the valley, can you imagine? There wasn't any mass transit, lmao. They had shuttles on the strip at different points that would take you there. My ex Deidre had a friend who work on the Carnival team, they had this ship and would throw plastic beads down. And they had THE highest rated buffet in the city and their restaurants were bomb- Mask, which was Sushi was really excellent. So much has changed since then. To say the place looks like a shithole is an understatement. Dilapidated and the sign, which was cool in the 90's- looks uber dated. I went there just before I left vegas about 6 years ago and it made me sad. Mandalay Bay is in the exact same boat- that was was amazing when it opened and now looks barren. Hope they do it justice. It's hard now that the strip has become so centralized that even stuff on the fringes doesn't get the traffic it used to. When LV City council gets their heads out of their asses and shuts the strip down to traffic and make it all pedestrian- it will fit right in. Can you imagine not seeing those fucking retarded elevators on every block, they don't work half the fuckin time. Vegas will always be my baby.

Peoples room ransacked, items stolen from their rooms and hotel management couldn't care less. Thieves can enter into any room, anytime, even when the guests are sleeping. The hotel refuses to investigate even when thousands of dollars if personal item have been stolen and recovered with the use of tracking chips. Pretty bad when items are stolen from your guest room and you see someone selling those items in the convention center. There was no forced entry, but the hotel management refused to integrate the door lock to identify last entry. Staying there is a real crap shot.

The entire outside facade is completely decayed. But the biggest impediment is that it is two miles off the Strip. Nobody is going that far out of their way to stay at ghetto Rio.
