- Lots of excitement in this video from the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. While the adults are relaxing and taking it easy the little ones find it's their chance to play together. You will see Jameela with Kayembe, Jameela with Kunda, and and Kayembe snatches Jameela away from Freddy and runs off.

-In general, gorillas live 35 years in the wild. In captivity they get better food, medical care and have no predators. Life expectancy can range from 50-60 years.
GORILLA CONSERVATION - one of the easiest things you can do to help gorillas is to recycle your cell phone or other hand held electronic device. Recycling electronics helps support gorilla conservation programs. Cell phones and other electronics contain a mineral called coltan (it is short for columbite-tantalite). Coltan is mined in areas where gorillas live. Recycling cell phones reduces the demand for coltan, which helps protect these native habitats. Some estimates report gorilla populations have declined 25% in the past 20-25 years.
Kayembe was the first zoo born gorilla at the Cleveland Zoo.
Kunda is the second baby born in Cleveland in less then 2 years.
Jameela is the first baby gorilla born via c-section at the Fort Worth Zoo.
Birthdates: Mokolo 7/10/87, Fredrika 6/5/74, Nneka 9/23/98, Kebi 1/13/91/ Tusa 12/2/89, and Kayembe 10/26/21, Kunda 7/19/23, and Jameela 1/5/24.
The Conservation status of the Western Lowland gorilla is “Critically Endangered”.

It's quite remarkable how Freddy can divide her attention & love equally among Kayembe & Jameela! She doesn't favor one over the other but instead loves them both so equally as well as providing each with everything they need to be happy & loved! I think Kayembe is going to be very protective over his little sister over time. You can definitely see the love in Kayembe's eyes when he's with Jameela and that's thanks to Freddy's unbelievable mother skills!!!

@@dmoore2732 Freddy and Kebi are very close and bonded, I’m sure Freddy has let Jameela understand who she can trust, grown ups it’s Kebi would be at the top of the list. With Mokolo, Kebi, then Kayembe when MaMa’s watching and of course eventually Kunda. Little Miss Kunda is showing her feisty side nowadays and she’s always planning how to get away from Mom to get to her playmate Jameela. It’s so funny seeing Kebi and Freddy trying to separate them and you see how strong they really are, Freddy and Kebi have to actually do some work to get them apart. It’s hilarious 🤣😂🤣and once they get an arm or leg loose, they’ll grab ahold with another available limb.

I woke up today with the another amazing video, seeing the three babies with their quiet lives and their little adventures, it's cute. I love my Kayembe and I am happy for him, now he has his sisters to play with before he was only with adults.❤❤❤❤❤❤

The interaction between members of the "family" never ceases to amaze. I envy someone like Freya Aspinall who has spent her entire life in physical contact with gorillas. Her grand-dad got the ball rolling and her dad still heads the Foundation. I guess you know all that. Thanks again for documenting such a fascinating aspect of life.

@ashleyc6511 Why did they cancel it? I had a free one for the gorillas years ago, but it went unused. I didn't know the youngest one (before the current newborn) had died. I remember watching him do his high wire act when he was Kunda's age. What a cutie he was.

Freddy is such a relaxed and confident mom. It's great that she's allowing Kayembe to bond so closely with Jameela and interact with her like this. She obviously already adores him. I can't help but think that if this was Kebi with Kunda she would already have have barricaded herself and Kunda away from all the fun ASAP! It's so interesting seeing the different personalities and parenting styles of these two gorilla moms.

Totally agree with you. So different style of parenting between these two mamma’s. Freddy’s style is superrelax and trusting almost everyone. She gives this trustskills to Kayembe and Jameela. You can see they are very comfortable with each other. Kebi is not relaxed and has a great distrusting to everybody. You can see she is doing her best but her distrust always wins. Kunda has never the opportunity to play with Mokolo, to make her own choices to do or not to do things. She couldn’t even try something. Kebi pulls her back everytime she wants to explore more. Mokolo has never a chance to play a second with Kunda. Even though Kunda is now almost 1 year old. I hope trough the training some things changed into good vibration and more trust for Kebi and Kunda, and the three little ones can play together in a few months😅. Let’s having the trust first in ourselves that things are all getting well in the future with the whole troop😊

I love how observant Freddie is. She never fails to gently grab Kayembe’s grasping arm and redirect it away from Jameela - all while eating with the other hand! Every time Kayembe somersaults, it reminds me of Commander Taggert aka Jason Nesmith aka Tim Allen in Galaxy Quest!

There were many sweet and tender moments between Kayembie and Jamella! My favorite was watching Macolo gently reach for Jameelas hand. Great video Larry! Keep them coming. (Sorry if I misspelled any of their names)
He so wants to touch Kunda too. Hopefully 🙏🏽 soon Mokolo can touch and show his love to Kunda as well. Kunda’s getting stronger and she’s always thinking of ways to get away to play. It’s adorable and Kebi’s eventually going to have to let her go. I feel for Kebi but this time of play is so important for their development and it helps regulate any anxiety they might have separating from MaMa but Kunda looks like she’s ready to fly. Such a darling video of the entire family. Glad people got to see Mokolo loves all his babies and hopefully he’ll get to play and touch Kunda, he’s wanted to for so long now. He respectful and he wouldn’t go against Freddy’s or Kebi’s wishes.

@@larrysanimalsafariLarry near the end when Jameela was crawling/walking and she pick up the little ball, another gorilla was coming into the room through the tunnel and a Freddy immediately picked up Jameela. Is it N’neka and I wonder why she’s bothered by her. After Kayembe was old enough to leave Freddy fir awhile, Freddy didn’t seem to mind N’Neka playing with Baby Kai. Now she feels different about Baby Jam I guess. You see more and I wonder what your opinion my be regarding the difference. Thanks alarry, I know you’re busy but I truly appreciate your thoughts.
@kelleybutler9203 When Jameela first arrived and was with the other gorillas Freddy was/still is very protective of Jameela. One gorilla in particular that she does not trust is Nneka. In my opinion, these are smart animals. Don’t forget it was Nneka that delivered Kayembe and walked away from the infant. I think Freddy remembers that- that is the reason.

OMGosh I absolutely adored seeing Mokolo reach out touch/ grab baby Jameela’s little hand. I’ve been wishing to see Mokolo interact with her as part of his troop. Me too ! He was being such a sweet gentle father. I know from watching other silverback gorillas on CZcams that they often love to be involved with their children and play. Little Kayembe was so cute and funny. Slyly taking off with his baby sister! 😂 Also I love Freddie being her protective mommy self but not too overprotective. Poor Kunda wants to play with Jameela. 😅

So precious..Kayembe was so gentle with Jameela. Wonder what he did for those 30 seconds 😕. He’s learning though and a few weeks he will be able to play more with them. I think Freddy is such a good momma. She knows boundaries and when he got a little rough she gently pulled his arm away. Which in turn teaches him. I love this troop, wish I was closer to go visit and watch. Thanks Larry! Big love to the troop.

If he pinched her, or hurt her she would have screamed, and everyone would come running, so that is a good sign. He is just a bit too young to be trusted so Freddy is wise.

There's going to be chaos in this family in a few months time. Little Kayembe is going to have two new feisty playmates and looking at Kunda's persistence with wrestling he's unlikely to get much peace. Nice to see Mokolo interacting with Jameela even briefly. She was fearless going up to him. I really hope that some of the keepers from the Fort Worth Zoo see these videos and can see how well Jameela is developing. Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, coupled with Freddy's tender care and the family's acceptance is nothing short of remarkable. 💖💖🦍
