- My shop is really hot when the forge is going, so I made a kilt to keep myself cool.

That is one awesome kilt! Lots of features! I couldn't believe all the stuff you pulled out of it. It was like a Marx Brothers comedy sketch. But seriously, great job! :-)
I had a ton of fun making that shot... If you go back and watch the beginning of that shot again, you can tell its heavy and I am having a bit of trouble keeping it up! lol
3:44 : Dude hot rods a sewing......thread injection CNC mill.... , Makes a size joke, and uses a stapler. Not only as a stunt double for pins, but in a way I never knew was a thing! As a fellow Weldor and wearer of a Ute kilt in the shop, I'm hittin' the like button now and proudly carrying on with the show. 👍🤘👏👏👏
Mercy me, I don't think I could have sewn a kilt with that much detail and pockets with my wonderfully new machine and all the correct things likes scissors and pins. But you did it with staples and a pocket knife. AMAZING...Very AMAZING. Subbed
Thank you! It was a much bigger project than I thought it would be when I started.
YES! KILTS ROCK!! Also i did not know what the other staple configuration was for. The More You Know....
I didn't know until fairly recently either, I just decided to look it up one day. Glad I did, made this a lot easier!
Bud, to have no tartan lines to go by that was sick
Really great job ive made my own used a simplicity mens pattern couldnt figure it out otherwise
Awesome! I need to fix mine, the big side pockets got almost ripped completely off.
I'm trying to make one with the burda pattern but it's tough (aka i'm going nuts) that's why I'm on yt looking for a tutorial 🤣
Made my own kilt too. There were times that I threw the damned thing across the room smacked it against the wall!
I KNOW!! This project was not easy. I love the final product, but I don't plan on doing it again anytime soon.
Warped Legacy I've made 3 first a camouflage then Army Tartan and a grey one. I'm doing a no sew Great Kilt (sometimes called a Belted plaid) now.
...so, naughty boy...you were smacking the kilt...another N. F.T. (New Fap Technique).
Pre- erm, pre-stressing the material is a valid part of the process, vital some would say :-D
Wow great job i want to learn
Im a girl but I LOOOOOOVE kilts! Their versatility is SO SUPERCOOOOL❤ as you portrait !
And the song at the end 😂👍👍👍 great addition🤣💖🏆
Glad you enjoyed!
You are very resourceful! Loved the music! :-)
Thank you!!
I wear a Franken-Plaid, a variation on a great kilt without the foldie-over shoulder trauma,
Half your fabric lengthways and pin/iron the fold to hold it,
Lay on it to find your leg length and mark your waist on the fabric.
Fold the top fabric over to meet your waist mark^ all along, iron the fold again.
Measure hip to hip and allow that much at each end for the under and apron, I put a marker safety pin in.
Pleat everything between those two points as you like, knife, box, double reverse box with splays etc.
If you want to pin any bits feel free but I don't bother apart from my markers as mentioned.
Belt under it, lay down and belt up, above your hipbone by 2-3", you can always pull fabric up through the belt but it's tough to lower your belt, go as tight as you can.
Go two notches tighter, trust me.
Stand up and check your fabric is out of the belt a good inch or two.
Do the usual full lenggth mirror check for level etc and off you go.
I farmed out the hemming when I bought it so I can honestly say I haven't put a single stitch in it.
:-D
But I am looking at a machine to make a sewn kilt soon.
I made a franken-kilt as well that sounds like yours. It's a mix between a feileidh-beag and the early low-yard box pleated kilt.
You got my thumbs up for the stapler idea. Rock your kilt kinsman!
+drason69 thanks! You use what you've got!
The pocket emptying is like Agatha Cromwells magic bag!😂😍😂
My pockets do have limits 🤣🤣
Nice video as always, I love your style :)
+Bloodforge Knives thank you! I'm just glad someone thinks I have some style. Lol
I'm jealous. That thing is bad ass!
+GP Woodworks I know! I am so happy with the way this for turned out. Thanks!

Daniel Moss you think you are sew punny don't you. Well you're right. Your comments on your channel did get the song in my head. I was wondering if you were gonna comment on it. Thanks for watching and commenting!
SWEET!! Looking forward to it all!!
Its a pleasure as always dude thank you for all the hard work. your PUN-ishing me here for sew very little. So that was sort of a serenade?

ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!! You very much remind me of one of my best friends from high school. I sent his this video so that he could see himself doing all of this and more through you! :-D
Glad you liked it! Hope your friend does to! I need to fix that kilt... It got ripped up, and I haven't fixed it yet.
Great job. I like your design and use of the stapler.
Thank you very much!
Ahhhhhh you deserve to get yourself some pins. Please, they help prevent getting holes. This was such a fun video
Very cool I love it I have a few kilts myself and there Great
Loved this video!
So much helpful info!
Here's a piece for you in exchange. That machine has an auto threading mechanism.
Thank you for this
Great video twan
You made to switch from blacksmithing to making more of the kilts for people who would like to buy one. I love the demo of all that STORAGE!!!
+jcfone this thing was way to much work. I would have to get $600-700 to make it worth my time. Mostly because I don't know what I'm doing, and I don't have the right equipment to do it correctly. Which makes everything harder, and take much longer. Glad you like it! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Go fund this guy for an upgraded thread-injector! 😆
Omg you dud a GREAT job!
Thank you!
Great utilikilt. One thing the utili/kilt should end at the top of the knees. Still great utilikilt
Good fun.
I would buy this if that was a thing.
Well this was truly nice and entertaining, thanks !
+Peter Hedman thank you for watching! I keep myself entertained anyway, glad I'm not the only one!
I wear kilt everyday in my smithy - when it is warm enough here in mid-sweden
Dude, if nothing else I have learnt my stapler does something I did not know it did. I have just tried. 👍
Dude, that was the most awesomeness kilt making vid ever! Just one thing though can you make the pattern available to us lowlanders? And another thing...do give up your day job! Oh Danny boy.....
If I had a pattern I would gladly make it available.... But I don't, I just made it up as I went. Got some inspiration from the xkilt pattern on the xmarksthescott forums. They have a detailed pattern, but I didn't follow it.
Holy (holey, wholly?) cow, your voice is as smooth as a mountain lake! Oh, and your kilt project is seriously bad-ass...
Dace Koenigsknecht thanks! Finally got to use it in the forge yesterday. I like! When we gonna get together again?
Now I understand the warped part of warped legacy. Your awesome keep up the good work!
I don't even understand how warped I am. Thanks man!
I got to the part about 10 layers and stuff, do you have an attachment thingy for that? My sewing machine came with something that looks like jaws on top to move the top layers in unison with the bottom layers when it gets too thick. Also one of my kilts is made old-school and you are right, the layers pile up and it feels super thick. They must have sewing machines of titanium over in Scotland.
The only other attachments I have are a zipper foot, and a broken button hole foot. And I don't know how to use either. This is whats left over from the machine my mom threw out(mechanics, the majority of the machine) and the machine my grandma threw out (Power supply, foot pedal and some internal wiring.). They were not even the same brand of machine, What kind of kilts do you have? This is my first. The real reason I made it instead of buying it was $ to get one in my size I would have had to have one custom made. Its hard for me to find clothes.
for a first kilt this one looks pretty amazing! I don't have any utilikilts, which this reminds me of, but i have a 'sport kilt' which is basically lightly pleated, polyester (to breathe), and elastic with velcro to attach in front. I also have a traditional one made by my mom's clan in scotland sized to fit me (if i lose about 20 pounds again). You're right, NOT cheap, but very nice. Next up you'll have to make a sporran! Not that you need more storage, but they look pretty boss. I knew one guy who's sporran was made out of a badger. The head was the flap you open to shove stuff inside. I have expected it to come back to life and bite his hand off. Badgers are pretty grumpy usually, and I assume he would be even more angry knowing his carcass was forced to hang over somebody's crotch for all eternity.
+Paul's Garage I plan on making some sort of sporran I have a ton of storage, but none of it is safe for my phone(I don't put a case on my phone). And I can't use the holster that I usually use. So I'm gonna make a sporran with a padded pocket for my phone.

Do you have a pattern for the kilt?
Is there a pattern or anything you used that I could use to help me make a kilt of my own?
+Andrew Tomkovich not really. I got information from xmarksthescot.com it's a kilt forum. And they have a pattern called the xkilt that I drew inspiration from, but I didn't really use a pattern to make my kilt. Thanks for the question!
I'm about to make my own kilts too. I have a heavy duty canvas one already and its still to hot in the summer so I'm going with a lighter one.
This was a pretty big project for me. Idk if I'll be doing it again. Lol. Hopefully yours turns out awesome.
@@WarpedLegacy I found 2 good quality fabrics to test it out on.
Oh, I almost forgot. Great voice! :-)
Thank you!
great kilt work...great crotch food warmer....but if you must sing ...try flower of scottland lol
Man, you Kilt it! Glad we didn't have a beginner kilt challenge, I would be naked cause I sux at sewing.
+eviltwinx na.. We just would have called yours a great kilt. (a great kilt is literally just 9 yards of fabric, you fold the pleats every time you wear it and hold it on with a belt!). Thanks man!
How much fabric did you use and what fabric, if you even remember. I'm looking to make one and the pockets are really good for what I plan on using it for.
I dont remember how much I used. I think it was about 5 yards, it takes a lot more fabric than it looks like it does because of all the pleats. The phrase "the whole nine yards" if often connected to kilt making. A Great Kilt can use a full 9 yards of fabric (If it is a true great kilt, it basically just is 9 yards of fabric.. ). And while I do not remember specifics about the weight of the fabric, it was a heavy duty cotton canvas.
@@WarpedLegacy Thanks man, I love your work
Do you have a pattern or instructions to make this kilt? Really impressive!
I do not. I started with the x-kilt from xmarksthescot.com forums. And modified it as I went. I was kinda making it up as I went. If you are looking to make one yourself, I would check out xmarksthescot. It was my main resource on this project.
Thete is a book called The Art of Kilt Making
love the design have you ever made one that is black and plaid if so can you do a video on that??
This is the only kilt I've ever made. I don't plan on making another. After I made this my wife asked me to make her one... I still haven't done that...
Kewl thanks yea my wife wants to make me one
Where can I find that kind of hammer you use at 2;11
I know this is an old video, so I don't expect you to respond, but I still tried at least.
Make one out of a big wrench. czcams.com/video/4ktRyQzYbb4/video.html
@@WarpedLegacy thank you very much dude, you are awesome!
Sew what type of fabric did you use?
+Kevin Liddle it's a 10 oz cotton canvas. Almost went with 12 oz, glad I didn't this thing is already heavy enough! Thanks for watching and commenting!
*WAY* to much work for me. Besides, I would prefer the great kilt for versatility. And it doesn't HAVE to be 'the full nine yards'. I think they only use 5 or 7 yards for a 'daily wear' kilt. I'm Irish (at least two lines that hopped the pond in back in the 1700's that I've found so far)(and one line from Germany, one from England; similar time period).
I don't have a kilt, but I would love to have one. So, how much fabric did you use to make yours?
+Brian Neeley 5 yards of 60 inch wide 10oz cotton canvas. And I maybe have enough left over to make a sporran. Maybe. It was WAY too much work. In the video I almost said "I'd be willing to do it again..... For about $2000." Pleats are hard. Especially since I did box pleats.
I tried to do a great kilt St. Patrick's Day, I ended by using my US Army tartan tailored kilt instead because I messed up. I'll try again later.
I believe the correct term is, "The Whole Nine Yards" taken from the original British army term meaning how many yards of cloth it took to make a kilt for a large man. But what do I know, I'm Mexican (if anybody can...a Mexi Can).
Can't belive "thread injector" it's a thing 😂
It's a thing.
Where did you find the info to make this?
Got a lot of info from xmarksthescot.com look up the x-kilt. But I picked up the skills from many sources. And designed this myself.
dude loved it !!!!!! I'm rolling here lol... next month more patreon support for sure :-)
Thanks man! This thing was a PAIN to make, I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets some pleasure out of it....And now my wife wants me to make her one. You got pretty close when you guessed loin cloth after I introduced the fabric.
Warped Legacy you did a great job man ! that last part of pulling out your lunch made me laugh so hard and wince a little lol. keep up the great work
+Christ Centered Ironworks that's my favorite pocket, and it was the most simple, just a patch pocket!
saludos desde México
I can actually do that with pants and WHERE THE HELL DID YOU GET AN OLD SCHOOL PENCIL SHARPENER???????
It was my dad's.... IDK where he got it.
Damn. I’ve been looking for one and not even then ANTIQUE stores didn’t have them.
‘I built a kilt’ No you didn’t, you made a gargo skirt!
