  • This is a tutorial on how to sew a Jedi Robe.
    The fabric I used is a drop cloth from Home Depot, and Fusible Interfacing from JoAnn Fabrics. It's an easy built; and who doesn't want to be a Jedi?

    This tutorial was incredibly helpful!
    I couldn't find ANY Jedi robe type patterns anywhere in my area, so I had to freehand it making my own patterns and following your guidance.
    The result was beyond my expectations. I am so thankful for the effort you put into this video. My own robe is something I am very proud of, and a huge amount of that credit goes to you for covering every step in detail and walking through the whole process. Thank you!

      I am glad I helped, but I was just a voice, you did the work!

      Can you share where / how you made your own pattern?

      @@happyslug I really can't detail a method for how I did it. I stuck to the old carpenter's adage, "measure twice, cut once", and always gave excessive overlap to any lengths, knowing I could always remove material, but could not add back. I used a very wide seam allowance on all edges.
      Basically, I just used a tailor's tape to measure myself (with help for the shoulders and full length), added ~4-6" to everything, and test fit all pieces before sewing. I was poked by so many pins, it wasn't funny. But it was helpful.
      When you think about what a "pattern" is, it's just a predetermined shape based on expected body measurements, plus room to move, and seam allowance. Since I'm a 6' 270lbs dude, most standard body measurements didn't match up anyways. So I had to make my own. A pattern is more like a guideline. If you're good with spatial cognition stuff, you can start to picture how a flat piece of material will wrap around you, and where narrow points and problem spots will emerge. Then use a pencil to first determine your "center line", and mark out your measurements from there for the garment piece you're working on, and connect the dots with a yard/meter stick. Neck width, shoulder points, waist width, total length, "belly room" (in my case), and any overlap, as with the tunic. Make sure you fold your fabric when making a piece that is to be two halves or wrap-around. You will then have a symmetrical piece to work with, and if you cut only on the side away from the fold, you won't have to sew two pieces together. Good luck.

    It's nice to find a full tutorial on making a jedi robe. Most videos I've found are just reviews if bought costumes.
    Tricky bits like the sleeve tucks really helps to see it done

    I am fond of sewing clothes for historical reconstruction of the 17th and 19th centuries. but now we are doing a star wars role-playing game. I decided to see how I sew cosplay in the west. and did not expect that someone would take it seriously. great job.

    Great video tutorial! Will you be posting a video on the robe itself? I have been looking for that particular pattern everywhere! No luck! And most instructions out there are difficult to follow freehand for me. I prefer following a pattern. I'm planning to make two Jedi robes and I've been overwhelmed with not finding "that pattern" so who knew I'd be out of luck in a free world. Thanks for your help.

      I want to make a great cloak; the hardest part is finding fabric I like, but that is almost always the problem.

    Question on belt sash(Obi) can eyelets be installed for easy sizing? Is it in the Star Wars Universe

    • @HawkWorley
      @HawkWorley  Před rokem

      A lot of us just use hook and loop (velcro) and since it is covered by the leather belt, it doesn't need to be structural. I'm not sure if a Rebel Legion Costune Judge would let eyeles go.

  • @lecobra418

    Nice tutorial but you forgot to put the two large strips of fabric who start around the lower back (right under the belt) and who go on each shoulders to pass under the belt in the front. In my opinion that's the best part of the tunic, it adds thickness to it, and it can be made out of different materials such as the Anakin robe being made out of leather. But it's not hard to figure out how to do it after that excellent tutorial!
    I would suggest to put some little pieces (those thing to close suits pants) inside each side to hold the tunic closed and crossed with a nice snug fit. Also, the belt would have been a bit more textured with some pinched fabric sew in the front!
    Anyway thank you for the tutorial!

    how do you trust your sewing enough to leave in the pins while sewing? last time i did that both my pin and needle broke off and shot out of the peice i was working on. ever since i dont trust leaving in pins while i sew and never get a straight stitch anymore no matter how close i have my pins get to my sewing needle XD lol. but seriously whats your secret on not breaking a needle or a pin when you do that.

    • @HawkWorley
      @HawkWorley  Před rokem +1

      Sewing is weird. I can go years without a needle breaking, but my wife uses my machine and she goes through 3 of them. Keeping the path of the needle at 90 degrees from the direction of the needle helps. When sharp needles hit round pins, they tend to deflect, but sometimes, when it is the needle's time...

      @@HawkWorley oh i know. i went weeks without hitting or reaking a pin or needle when i left the pins in the material but the very first time the needle hits a pin, it breaks the needle and shatters the pin, and now everytime i try to sew with pins in i hit them every single time. went through like 4 needles in a year. i just want to know the secret to not hitting them. They may have reprinted it, that would be neat. Then I can just direct people to get it at a craft store.

      I have this pattern and a friend has it too. Other than that the only ones I’ve seen are the two on eBay going for around $100 each! It’s nice to hear that they may have reprinted it!
