  • I finally purchased the awning I always wanted, a 270 degree awning. This is an awesome product by ‪@overlandvehiclesystems1700‬ The quality is superb and you can't beat the setup time. The awning is simply attached using U-bolt plates fastened to the roof rack of my 5x8 overland cargo trailer camper conversion. This awning effectively triples the square footage of the trailer. Plans for bug netting to come!

Thanks. This is a great video and helped a lot. For those watching, the "Passenger Side" version of this awning is half the price and goes on the same side as your trailer door. Not sure why the driver's side version is so much more....

I am very happy for you Joe. Another job well done. I was glad to see an update in our CTC group. We've missed your video's. I wish I had this awning on my 5x8. I just built a small custom room on the back of mine. I have pictures posted on our group. Looking forward to seeing what you do next.

So great to see your enthusiasm! I'm basically setting up the same thing on my small enclosed trailer (that's used for equipment hauling only) to provide shade while un-loading/loading.
I read that you changed the mounting method you used. I was intending to basically do the same thing.
By chance can you let us know what you did and how the new method works? Thanks for the help!

@@jeffkarp3049 checkout my updated walk around video and for more information on how I changed up the mounting system. I used some old bed angle iron and made my own brackets bolted to the roof rack. Thanks for watching!

Great video! I have the 6.5x8 outdoor systems awning on my 6x10 - they make great gear. I took a chance buying at my local 4x4 shop due to global supply chain issues and have no regrets. Your build has been so inspirational - I love your mounting solution, way better than what I did on my ladder racks….oh well. LOL

    Hey Joel,
You were one of the 1st people I watched when I decided to take the plunge and build a cargo trailer conversion and now an awning! I appreciate your videos!
I am have a little trouble figuring out two things.
1.What is the furthest distance the ladder racks can be apart as I have not mounted mine yet? Seems like I need to plan from the rear so the awning can wrap around the back of the trailer.
    2. I have been looking for a ladder rack like yours that is low profile and actually has a 90 degree piece that attaches to the trailer rather than just screwed into the side. Seems more stable. What brand is yours?
I am going to run the ladder rack bolts all the way thru the trailer and put lock washers and nuts on them since i have the wall open rather than just self tappers,
How did the U bolt plates mounting idea work? Seems like most of the mounting hardware is for car and truck racks so this was a cool idea.
    Thanks!

Hey Colton, awesome to hear. Thanks for watching and all the support. The distance would vary from awning to awning. I did 6' apart and that's about as far as I would take it. Measure from the rear and make sure that it isn't too far back or it won't cover the end like you have mentioned. I don't think my roof rack has a brand name, it was just a factory option from the manufacturer when (previous owner) had bought the trailer. Good luck with the install! 270° awning is definitely worth it.

@@JoelTremblayCA Where you able to move it far enough forward (based on the location of the rear ladder rack) to eliminate that gap over the rear door? Looks like there is only so far you can go because of the awning cover and that black plate with the four bolts. Thank you!

    • @JoelTremblayCA
      @JoelTremblayCA  Před 2 lety

@@coltonboyd5911 I was able to shim it forward but still left a bit of a gap. I'm working on a detail to fix that issue and to lower it so there's no gaps underneath.

Can the canoe stay on top and still deploy the awning and bungees? or do you have to take canoe down to set it up? Do you stake your poles into the ground?

    • @JoelTremblayCA

Canoe can stay on top! I haven't had to stake the poles down, I just lift them tight and if I want to stake, I run a paracord line from the gutters! Thanks for watching

Nice job! We added one of those exact awnings on our 5x8 and love it. We've had it out in several storms and it has held up great. One thing to note is that the cover will leak in the rain so make sure to open the awning up and dry everything out every once in a while. Also, I just added LED light strips to each of the awning arms (like this: czcams.com/video/9Mk0ENj_MRQ/video.html) and it makes for a very nice hang out spot! Enjoy!
