    This is awesome. People are complaining about the tech, speakers. Nevermind that.
    What really stands out is the tiered seating and the lighting pointing towad the ground. It really is a movie theater in your house.

    So many haters in the comments. Nice setup. Would I do some things differently? Sure. But it’s not my theater. It’s YOUR theater. And I think it’s a sweet setup, man. I especially like that you have three rows (technically 4!) that’s amazing! And the soda machine is ridiculous. Haha! Bet you’re popular with your neighbors!

      Thanks for watching and the feedback. It definitely is a “choose your own adventure” type of thing with theaters and one person’s choices wouldn’t necessarily be someone else’s. It is a fun setup that works for us (and sometimes the neighbors and friends, haha).

    I like your home theater. I think it turned out nice. However, I would change those surround speakers with Klipsch R-5650 S II which are in walls and place them between the 1st and 2nd rows of seating since these in wall speakers radiate sound towards the front and back of the seating area and also fill in those huge gaps between the front left and right speakers and the left and right surround speakers.

    • @sage11x
      @sage11x Před 3 měsíci +1

      This is some really good advice. Didn’t realize those rear surrounds were actually the ONLY surrounds. Even a pair of on wall surrounds would make a big difference. Then you could just repurpose the rear speakers as actual rears (7.1).
      I’m in the minority but I like bipolar surrounds especially if you have to cover a couple rows of seats.

    • @JoshsSmartHome
      @JoshsSmartHome  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Thanks to both of you! I’ll have to consider this. Part of the fun is iterating and improving things.

    • @TheArrangment
      @TheArrangment Před 3 měsíci +1

      @@JoshsSmartHome I would definitely consider what Sage11x said about repurposing your original surround speakers. Keep those surround speakers on the back wall where they are and then just place some of those Klipsch in wall speakers I mentioned between the 1st and 2nd row one foot above ear level of the 2nd row so the third row gets some ear level sound.

    Lots of awesome aspects about your home. Not sure if you are aware, but since you like smart home devices, there are smart curtain devices that use the curtain rod like a rail, and will open or close curtains. Could automate your screen curtains if you wanted. I like your walkway lights and how dark your theater gets...Wow.

    • @JoshsSmartHome
      @JoshsSmartHome  Před 3 měsíci +2

      Thanks Chris! Im aware of a few options for curtains but this isn’t a rod, but rather a slot (think of a curtain holder at a medical facility, so I need to see if any can use the little slot rather than a rod.

  • @DeejaySequel
    @DeejaySequel Před 3 měsíci +2

    Based on the dimensions and size of this room, it has so much potential! In its current state, it’s not a theatre. No Atmos speakers, no surround speakers and very low end LCR’s.
    I’m perplexed as to why you have spent more money on the seating rather than putting in a half decent sound system.
    This room has so much potential and you need to take advantage of that!

    • @JoshsSmartHome
      @JoshsSmartHome  Před 3 měsíci +1

      It does have atmos up-firing speakers. We could probably have done some surround speakers in the walls, but with the odd bump in on the one side, I wasn’t sure how that would work best. Would you go with one set per row?

    • @sage11x
      @sage11x Před 3 měsíci +2

      This guy… “not a theater.” Bro he has three rows of seats! Is there room for upgrades? Hell yeah! But half the fun of this hobby is the upgrades!
      There is a disease that has taken over this hobby. Lots of gatekeeping. Lot’s of naysayers and critics. Lot’s of ‘bling’ and what I like to call AV jewelry.
      How’s this? I have an atmos receiver. Connected up some atmos CEILING speakers. (Actual ceiling speakers not bouncy house attachments). Took them down. They did nothing a properly positioned pair of rear bipolar surrounds wouldn’t do. And the atmos speakers forced my surrounds onto low stands at the back of the room necessitating monopole bookshelves. I found the monopoles too easy to localize and the whole thing added next to nothing besides cost and complexity.
      Bottom line: in a large theater with an open ceiling atmos likely makes some sense. But in the home… you’re better off saving the budget for that extra pair of speakers and putting it towards better speakers or an extra sun.

    • @sage11x
      @sage11x Před 3 měsíci +1

      Yeah man, why didn’t you blow your entire budget on Focal LCRs!? Just sit on lawn chairs! Duh!!😂

    • @wendellwendellb339
      @wendellwendellb339 Před 3 měsíci +1

      Considering the surrounds, you could go with bipolar speakers, since you have multiple rows of seating. On the right, it could go at the edge of the wall.

    • @JoshsSmartHome
      @JoshsSmartHome  Před 3 měsíci +2

      I agree that this is an opportunity to make things what you want. There are some things that I’d like to upgrade in the future, but this is where we are right now. I’m not an audiophile but speakers in the side walls probably would improve the experience.

  • @gtrscort1
    @gtrscort1 Před 2 měsíci +1

    I like the way this came out. In regards to speakers, no one can tell you what speakers are going to work for your setup. Only you can because it has to sound good to YOU and no one else. Acoustic treatments if done correctly can improve sound without having to change your speakers, if you feel the sound needs some work. I personally have some blackout curtains and can hear a big difference as all of the echoing is gone. Just my 2 cents for its worth.

    congratulations for your dedicate home theater , you still have a lot space for do future updates , maybe you can add to the list a bigger projection screan , specially for those people setting in the last row and for yourself also more immerse experience for the fist row .You can add also more subs and definitely the most important Atmos Height ceiling speaker and side surround speakers

    • @JoshsSmartHome
      @JoshsSmartHome  Před 3 měsíci +2

      We have upward firing atmos on the front speakers, but ceiling speakers and side speakers would probably work well. Our breaker box is behind the one curtain so I’m not sure we can go with a bigger screen without having to create a solution for the breaker box.

    Very nice setup! Thanks for sharing. Can you tell me whether you can easily access the back of your lighted theater sign hanging over the door? I want to buy one but would like to save some money by adding my own LED lights afterwards instead of having them come pre-installed. But if the back has to be cut open or can’t easily be opened it wouldn’t be worth it. Anyway, thanks for posting!!

      @JoshsSmartHome  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Thanks for watching! This one is pre-lit and runs on A/C power with an outlet installed behind it. I’ve never opened it up to determine if anything would be damaged by doing so or if it could be modified and the back easily replaced, sorry I don’t have a better answer. • @mfkhometheater7742
      @mfkhometheater7742 Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@JoshsSmartHomeMy Marantz AV10 can be controlled via Ethernet with an app that I believe can be integrated into Home Assistant. I haven't really investigated what all can be done with that.
      Back in 2008 I controlled an Anthem D2 using an IR to RS232 converter because with the RS232 I could enter commands directly that would otherwise require working down through menus using IR. I used the Anthem to control vertical stretch for the anamorphic lens and with RS232 I had single button control on the remote to set it for different aspect ratios.
      Maybe I should just get a MadVR for controlling aspect ratios, all I need is a winning lotto ticket🙂

    Constructive criticism: The harry potter cutout is cheesy (imo) and you should hide or clean up the beer light power cables somehow. As an aside, people too often use the term “Ultimate” to describe something they have when it’s not warranted.

    • @JoshsSmartHome
      @JoshsSmartHome  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Thanks for watching. Regarding your feedback: the kids love the Harry Potter cutout, so this stays as long as they like, haha. I do agree that I could provide a more discreet method for hiding the cables. I initially thought it gave it more of a “bar feel” but now I agree with you. I probably should have put outlets at those locations but hindsight is 20/20. Regarding the use of the word “ultimate” it seems to please the algorithm and unfortunately doing so is a necessity to have your videos put in front of people. I appreciate the feedback and will consider your suggestions.

    Also as far as home theater tours go and for how long this video is it’s one of the most less detailed I’ve ever seen
    Here’s a speaker (what kind?)
    Here’s a subwoofer - there’s like many brands out there, what kind you got?
    There’s a Sony receiver over there….. thanks but there’s like hundreds different types…. What specific model you got
