    I always had a good laugh at the hokey dinah in the videos. Now it all makes sense!

    Great video Jesse! I really enjoy your comparison between the Scotty 343 and the YakAttack GTTL90 - the difference in T-Bolt size is huge and something I hadn't considered before. I know whenever I move my 343s I have to make sure I back off the T-Bolts before tightening them to make sure they are grabbing the rail properly. An alternative to the Scotty braided downrigger line is PowerPro makes a similar product for about half the price. Most important reason, IMHO, for switching to it on a yak is the safety aspect - being able to cut it if things go sideways. I'm using a Scotty 1060 where I shortened the boom arm and then attached it behind my seat with a quick release plate (and one on the inside flipped upside down to be a makeshift backing plate). It's good having a line counter and single hand operation, but I partly wish I went for the Cannon downrigger with the vertical orientation as it may be less awkward. I think KC are looking at changing theirs next year to it. Still, was able to use a 10lb ball at 150' off Kitty Coleman hump this season with no issues (other than it being a huge PITA to drag around and reset with shakers). One upgrade I think you may want to do is the rudder pin upgrade, if you haven't already. You can either DIY it, or grab the kit from Navarre. Just a bolt, some nylon washers, and a nut, but it allows you to really tighten up the steering. That can be pretty important if you need to let go of the rudder control and still keep on the same heading.

      Thanks for all the info! I did replace my rudder bolt with Navarre's. It's funny you mention that, as I recorded a bunch of that rudder bolt discussion for this video but cut it out because I thought it was too boring for the audience (as the video is pretty long as it is).
      As for the downrigger, I'm looking to upgrade to the Cannon downrigger that goes behind the seat, and mounted using the "V-Lock" custom plates. I'm pretty interested to learn more about the Scotty 1060, how are you mounting that? I'm assuming something similar to the V-Lock or aluminum/starboard plates mounted.

      I enjoyed the video and found it helpful however. I just lost my laketroller yesterday when the Scotty T bolts popped out. The yak attack looks way better however it doesn’t look like it’s compatible with the lake troller. Am I missing something?

    One of the most important items on my yak... the urinal 😂 20:41

      @@KeepCastingNW 100% recommend it! Kayak fishing is growing fast here in PNW and rightfully so. It’s a blast, and opens up salmon fishing all year round. (Although best in summer). Can’t say enough good things about kayak fishing.

    I had Scotty send me the proper T-bolts. If you reach out to Scotty they will have you send them a pic and then mail them to you at no charge.

      @@cwilliams66 yes, correct. The yak attack mounts only apply to their accessories. Scotty accessories will require Scotty mounts or there are some universal mounts like Navarre. I like the Scotty mount (and products) but would replace the t-bolts with the thicker rectangle sizes.

    Great walk through and video as always bro! Couple recommendations: Our Scotty Laketrollers are getting retired this off-season, definitely going to be switching to the Cannons, also after having a solid year with the Navarre aluminum rudder upgrade, we highly recommend it! 👍 Happy Holidays from our fam to yours! We need to make a plan for getting out together in 2024! Cheers!

    Hey Jesse thanks for the tips I’m potentially looking into kayak fishing around Vancouver and this was great help!
    Any reason you chose the pedal drive over the fin drive styles?

    • @BCFishingJournal
      @BCFishingJournal  Před 24 dny +1

      @@brennanyu8790 honestly I haven’t been in a fin drive kayak for years! So I can’t say I’ve done my homework and say one is better than the other. The Old Towns have been perfect for the type of fishing I’m trying to do, but that’s not to say others couldn’t do the same.
