Yup, I've lived a version of this. It seems to happen after I've taken the time to get decent at a game that has deeper strategy, I'll teach it to someone and proceed to get totally owned. While I could take away that I'm pretty good at teaching, I usually opt for the "I suck" route :/

Yeah, playing games on BGA has seriously given me some perspective on how I rank as a gamer - low end of the middle. Even games I'm getting good at I am still very much middle of the pack.
Can we just give Paula some credit for the amount of comedic value she was able to ring out of a regular hotel room? :D Really laughed a lot! And I love the PSA - never play your fav game with strangers, especially not in a competition.

I loved this video. Short, simple, and yet quite hilarious. I understand the feeling sometimes though. I learn a new game, play it a few times on BGA or IRL but then the minute I try playing Arena mode I find out just how good, or lack thereof, I am. 😅

This happened when I lived abroad for a year, I used to think I was pretty descent, then I proceeded to get constantly crushed most of the time 😂. Good thing I play for fun
Is this one of those things where American say "World Series" but it's just some nerds from Nevada, Califonia and maybe Oregon? 😁
HA well it is lots of Americans of course because it is held in the US but there were some international attendees this past year. It's a very new event and I'm hoping it will grow to be more international over time!
This year's final 4 had 1 Canadian, 1 from Finland, and 2 from the US I believe. Last year's final four had a Canadian, someone born in Italy, someone born in China and an American. So a pretty good spread. I think 15 or so countries were represented this year.
Hah, that's very good.
Having a deep existential and spiritual crisis about whether God cares about you at all is the only appropriate and reasonable response to losing a board game.
