    I've watched probably 10 or more videos on this and I came across this one not even looking and decided to watch it and I give you props.... This is the best put together and most in depth yet to the point video I've seen on a cam swap. After watching this I definitely feel confident that I can do the cam swap on my truck

    Did you remember to: 1.leave the timing cover bolts lose and use the harmonic balancer to center the cover
    2. Put gasket maker on the bottom corners of the front cover where it meets the oil pan.
    3. Get a new balancer bolt(because they are torque to yeild , one time use
    4. Put thread locker on the balancer bolt threads and on the back of the bolt head where it makes contact with the balancer.
    If you didn't, the oil pan is going to leak, the front main seal will leak, and it will start to leak out the front of the balancer.

    So there's a little trick you can do to help keep the valve locks in place while you're taking the pressure off the valve springs. Get yourself a glob of that sticky ass RED GREASE and apply that grease to the keeper and that will help hold them in place on the valve stem as the hat comes up and locks the valve into place.

    • @pancho123ification
      @pancho123ification Před 2 lety

      You can use a c5 corvette fuel pressure regulator with built in filter. You would just need to get or make a fuel hose to connect the filter to the fuel rail. You would connect the stock hoses of the truck to one side of the fuel regulator and the new hose to the other side of the regulator to the fuel rail.

    • @pancho123ification
      @pancho123ification Před 2 lety +1

      As far as brake booster do you have a hydro boost ? Does it have power steering lines going to it? If so you would just add a plug to the tbss intake manifold where the vacuum line of a brake booster would normally go.

    The lobe Separation on a 5.3 should be no more than 106 degrees. You're also going to have to either severely limit or almost disable the variable valve timing for that cam, it looks like it's a little bit too much of a step-up to leave the variable valve timing. If it were a little bit milder you could probably use a little bit of variable valve timing. With a mild uptick you can leave the valve timing alone. When you get the cam up a bit, the valve timing starts to defeat the purpose of adding the cam.
    I see that the serpentine belt is well past needing to be replaced.
    A lot of this time you're wasting telling us what you're going to do, you could be doing it while you're saying it. Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. Get to the work already!
    I've never seen anybody put wooden dowels inside the motor. And if you're trying to be careful not to damage you can bearing you're doing a really sloppy job of it. You're supposed to have both hands on that just as soon as you possibly can.
    Don't forget to take the oil pressure relief spring off of that oil pump, and Shem it with about one or two washers, so that you'll up the oil pressure because now that you've deleted the AFM DOD system. You can make use of the higher oil pressure which serves the engine better. And it's more than easy enough to do on the original oil pressure system. Don't remove the oil pump without making sure that you re shim the oil impellers when you put it back on.
    Although I've only seen two beehive Springs ever broken. The Beehive Springs are more than adequate for the cam that you have the operating RPMs of any realistic pickup truck. It's not like you're putting a wild cam in it. Looks like you're putting way too much valve spring for the cam.
    How did you do a DOD delete without replacing four of the lifters which is required?

    • @treykight7526
      @treykight7526 Před rokem

      Bro, you obviously have no idea what you're talking about. This guy did a pretty good job and for you to spout out about stuff that you have no idea about blows my mind. This engine doesn't have AFM or DOD because it's in 04 Silverado. Also, that cam is perfect for what hes doing so STFU

    • @Pyle81
      @Pyle81 Před rokem +4

      @@gto.eduardo958LoL, You beat me to it. This is a 04, LM7, They didn't have VVT or AFM/DOD.
      GM only started using AFM/DOD in on the 2007 on the 5.3 engines. And in 2010 they started using both AFM/DOD and VVT. Going forward on the 5.3's. Thats why these 2006 and back 5.3 engines where so popular. A lot less aggravation, And they easily went 300-K miles if you just changed the oil and didn't over heat them. Ive got a Yukon out here with a LM7,With 340-K miles. Its still got 40+lbs of oil pressure when it's at operating temp. Doesn't use a ounce of oil, Runs like it did the day I bought it used with 42-K miles on it. It was a Corporate lease vehicle that GM did all maintenance during the lease. So at ever 4-K miles it got the oil changed with premium synthetic oil. We had the valve covers off it to just see what it looked like. And I wasn't surprised to see it looked very clean for 340-K miles. Unfortunately the rest of the truck (2003) is pretty bad. The salt and calcium chloride they use on the roads around NE Ohio has eaten this thing up pretty badly. But we're going to pull this engine and use it for a builder for a Pick Up Project thats in the works.

    • @Pyle81
      @Pyle81 Před rokem

      Dude...... @Hawk First you haven't a frigging clue about what you're talking about. And even GM uses the wooden dowels trick to swap out a LS cam with out taking the lifters out. FYI, The cam he put in, has been used in a million different LS engines, Just search it. You might learn something. And if you don't like the way he shoots his videos, Which is how a lot of guys that aren't full time channel operators. Then move on, because you clearly don't know shit about what you think you do.
