      As good as this video was, nothing replaces actually being there. I was in Hopkinsville, KY for the 2017 eclipse, and nothing replaces actually being in the shadow cast by the moon.

    "Red flame looking structures on the edge of the eclipse are not solar flares, but are actually called a solar prominence. Prominences are anchored to the Sun’s surface and extend outwards into the Sun’s hot outer atmosphere. The red-glowing looped material is plasma, a hot gas comprised of electrically charged hydrogen and helium." - James Bryant

    best footage ive seen. we were out with glasses but only got 96 percent coverage. it was very hard to phone photo but when i held the glasses a half cm from the lens i got captures. then just as it was a tiny sliver the clouds enabled us to see it with our naked eyes and i got a shot of that too. so it was kinda cool. wouldve loved to see this wow.

    A few days before, I bot a Panasonic base HD camcorder w/50x optical zoom and in Erie PA had the sun/corona/prominences filling the frame with spectacular full frame moving white clouds - even zoomed in on the 6 o-clock prominence where only half the sun was in the frame. Spectacular. Sharpness, magnification and clouds were all ideal. Then I realized I never hit the record button. It will take me weeks to get over this. Had 16x Russian Xenit gyro stabilized binocs too and the camcorder image was so fantastic, viewing thru them never crossed my mind. I may have to sell this cool little camcorder because every time I'll look at it, I'll be reminded of that day.

    • @sunheri189
      @sunheri189 Před 3 měsíci

      No camera can capture what we saw with naked eye. That white light from corona can’t be replicated. I had a good camera too but not the same as my experience of looking at it. So don’t fret. Hope you enjoyed watching the eclipse and the fantastic sight that was the carona.

    • @NoferTrunions
      @NoferTrunions Před 3 měsíci

      @@sunheri189 The difficulty of using a camera are the exposure settings. Automatic focus and exposure are a formula for bad pictures. With DSLR, manual focus to infinity and some intelligent manual bracketing should work. You also need to expert speed at settings since you will need to make adjustments with the time limits of totality.
      Although I'll never see another one, I'd go video.
      If you really want to experience totality, you need gyroscopically image stabilized binoculars ( recommend the 16x Russian Xenits). Anything you watch with them is mesmerizing. My personal experience using them is an out-of-body feeling.

  • @pauleypavillion6088

    It was a disappointment in Kerrville and Ingram Texas; I was at the centerpoint of the shadow in Ingram Texas and the low cloud build ups ruined it for many people that had set up equipment to view the eclipsed. Lots of disappointments from them but kids were awed and heard them; we only got a glimpsed of the eclipse before the thick low clouds covered it again. WE experienced 4 minutes 30+ seconds of twilight darkness and the distant clouds reflected some sunlight at us in the horizon. Overall the darkness was like dark twilight before total night darkness.

    • @TheCrowDream
      @TheCrowDream Před 3 měsíci +2

      I had plans to be in Kerrville but pivoted to NY a week prior. The day before I pivoted again to VT. My sons refused to pivot and got clouded out. Moral of the story, totality is no time for half measures. Don't be discouraged. If you are blessed with another opportunity, go all the way.
      It's well worth every inconvenience.

      Because our star (the Sun) is millions of times brighter so you can't see other stars during daytime. Also, the two "stars" the reporter was talking about in this video were actually Venus and Jupiter (other planets in our solar system), and their reflections are much brighter than distant stars.
