    Blimey, that was like a mini service. I worked on Chinooks for three years, we didn't check half of that. Excellent video.

    😮 oh man, I used to be a Mechanic in the Army for Chinooks, and that preflight is more exhausting and complicated for such a little helicopter 🚁!

    It’s interesting how there are different but really similar ways of doing the preflight good to know what are other things to look for that my pre flight check list doesn’t have!

    Don't forget to mention when cleaning the windscreen, always use a scotch brite pad or steel wool and go side to side, get those nice horizontal lines on the surface that hide those pesky annoying powerlines...🤣👍
    Just teasing, but it's amazing how many students will just subconsciously grab a towel and wipe side to side causing deadly horizontal lines. The proper procedure is a Super soft cloth gently wiping vertically up down. That way the power lines are never hidden. 👍

    Random question, but did the student happen to mention any fixed wing training in Socal? I swear she's a former student of mine.

    Surprised no computer code readers or scan tools diagnostics is not used, we don't even start a racing car motor until we have plugged it into a scan tool before we turn it on every time. Really cool vid good information about all the parts.

      They use an engine from 1930, no electronics. Obsolete, but they were used to appeal to the US market.

    So, a full half-hour of checks before every flight? That's surprising to me, as a fixed-wing pilot. My pre-fights might go 5-6 minutes. Occasionally a few minutes longer. Sure, helicopters are exponentially more complex. But I can't imagine having to do all this, PLUS all the other pre-flight check list items before going flying.

    Carburetor and clutch? Why not fuel injection and automatic transmission? I like hydraulic torque converters more than rubber belts and pulleys. I'm sure there must be a reason. Probably lower weight and keep it stupid simple for maximum reliability.

      Could there be a cost of ownership in the long term and ease of maintenance

    • @laz288
      @laz288 Před 5 lety +5

      The Bendix Fuel Injection for the Lycoming motors add more cost and maintenance and you really do not gain much advantage in a low altitude training helicopter. The belt is hard to beat, easy to inspect and service and is relatively inexpensive. Hydro based systems add weight, cooling, particulate sensors, etc. Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best.

    Why do helicopters have chin windows? There aren't any eyes in my feet and when I put them on the pedals they obstruct my view out the chin windows, so why put them there? I would have told her NEVER touch the muffler unless the engine is cold because it will burn you severely.

    Good helicopeter except the engine. Guimbal should have installed a more modern/better engine than that dinosaur.
