    So that's why many tables started adding metal rails underneath flippers

      That and it also reduces stress on the flippers when the ball hits it in its resting position.

    • @chrisfi3d
      @chrisfi3d Před 4 měsíci +9

      All three of you are wrong. The rails were added first and foremost to prevent the ball from flying past the flipper, rebounding off the apron and returning to play - particularly on a 1985 onwards game. The centre post between the flippers (when used) was a concession made by its designer to employ when his design created an abundance of balls being lost between the flippers, during its design phase - primarily as a consequence of the geometry further up the play field. Bang back prevention is done by setting the plumb bob correctly, having the coin door slam switch operating and set correctly. Fun fact as I leave you all, Data East actually celebrated a successful bang back by providing the player with a monetary score and acknowledge via the DMD. Thank you and goodnight.

    This is all good and well...but most of the time the ball has more speed and will already be gone before you can react like this. In real life this only works like less than 10% of the time imo

    How is it forbidden? For just funsies play, anything that doesn't register a tilt (this is the most dangerous since it could be a Slam Tilt ending your game and erasing all your credits) is fair game. I've done this ever since I realized that the technique I used in Pinball Fantasies in 1993 would also work in real life. saved many a ball on Star Trek: The Next Generation and attack From Mars this way. But also lost a few credits. So I only did it on my last credit, and only if I had a game worth extending going, or it was my last ball.

    • @skeven0
      @skeven0 Před měsícem

      in tournement play its not allowed, thats why its forbidden.
      Lazaruses on the other hand are allowed, since you dont bang the machine and physically move the machine ( the ball goes between the flippers hits a side/bottom and pops up back above the flippers).
      For casual play you can do it, but people wont like it

    Pinball has an inherent 'legal' banging of the machine to help with the game that's why it has a "TILT" error when you shake the machine too much..... The picking up of the ball.... ok that maybe 'cheating' because usually pinball machines have a glass cover on the playing field.

    • @stickyfox

      Well picking up the ball isn't necessarily against the rules... it's just really hard with the glass on there.
