I use my fingers it is hard on me fingernails but it is well worth it. Also doing it this way you do not cause split ends or breakage. Using a softer brush are softer on the hair as well. My favorite is the hair brush. It also shines the hair as well bringing the oils to the surface.

I’ve actually seen progress and needed to recut the tail after two weeks of leaving it in!
