  • Understanding the hindu calendar helps to understand the traditions practiced by hindus for millennia. This video clearly walks you through the calculations of a lunar day and the names of the Tithis andPakshas . Astronomy was a well developed science in ancient India and understanding these systems, brings a new perspective to our understanding of the science of Jyotisha.
    This is a knowledge which was available and known to everyone a few generations back, and lost now due to modern schooling. Knowing these basics will help you to figure out the Panchangam or the Hindu Calendar and bring it into everyday use.
    Both the sidereal and tropical time systems as well as the solar day(vasara), were introduced in the earlier video and the Lunar day (Tithi) is explained here, as they form the basis of understanding Jyotisha. I have made an attemot to make the explanations simple and easy to understand even for a novice in the field.
    I have researched as much as I can to learn and understand this science, and I also attended a course about Vedas and ancient literature to get some basic knowledge which was from guru parampara source. This endeavour is to start you on a journey, the path is yours to continue.
    All my sources are listed below for the research upto now. With each video that list is sure to grow. The details missing in this video due to time constraints are available on the blog page.

    Thank you for this!
    But, I have a question.
    I was born on 25 July 2001.
    During the sunrise of 25 July 2001, the "Tithi" was Panchami, but for that day, "Tithi" became Panchami.
    But, I was born during the afternoon, when it was "Shashti" at that time.
    So, I want to know that, what is considered as my Jamna-Tithi?
    "Panchami" or "Shashti"?

    • @VedikHeritage
      @VedikHeritage  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Hari Om Rishab ji. I am not an astrologer. I understand that tithi is calculated for different occasions differently. Eg: tithi for shrardha ia taken as that which is prevailing between 11am and 2 pm. For janma tithi I think you should consult an astrologer to know for sure if it is sunrise dependent or time of birth dependent.

      Hari Om. Chalamyaji, firstly please refer to me only as Radhaji. One has to be a realised soul teaching aatma vidya to be called a guru. We are just seekers.
      Secondly, I do not understand what you re talking of when you say to explain calculation. Please explain.

    Nice explanation. One question: It is clear that the tithi of the day is the one at sunrise, but you also mentioned that tithi is calculated for determining auspicious time of activity. So is it possible that Diwali tithi starts today evening, hence Pooja muhurta is today evening, but actually the tithi at sunrise today and hence tithi of the day was chaturdashi and not amavasya? This is practically the case today i.e. 24th Oct 2022. Please clarify.

    • @VedikHeritage
      @VedikHeritage  Před rokem +1

      To answer your question, this year amavasya tithi starts at 5.27pm on 24th and ends at 4.08 pm on 25th. So, even though amavasya is there during sunrise, it does not last till the evening for the muhurt for lakshmi Puja. This is why the evening of 24 th is taken as the time for Diwali Puja.

    • @doktorsaab
      @doktorsaab Před rokem

      @@VedikHeritage thanks for your prompt and clear reply Why does Lakshmi Puja have to be done in evening? We could have had Diwali declared tomorrow since amavasya is tomorrow, with Laxmi Puja in morning. Panchangas are mentioning Diwali today. Whereas, as per the explanation provided by you, they should mention Diwali to be tomorrow and not today, even if Laxmi Puja muhurta was declared for today evening right?

    • @VedikHeritage
      @VedikHeritage  Před rokem +1

      @@doktorsaab I am not very knowledgeable on the intricacies of this. But when I looked this up, I got a very convincing answer. Shakti puja ( feminine worship) is always done in the dusk, Sandhya kala. This is the period most suitable for this form of worship.
      But there are some exceptions like Sarasvati Puja which is done in the morning. That is because knowledge is associated with the Brahma muhurtha. Similarly Lalitha sahasranamam etc too are performed both in the morning and evening because of other reasons which are tantric in nature.
      Essentially, we are looking to obtain maximum benefit during these Puja’s and doing them in the appropriate time as specified by the shastras gives us that benefit. This is why the pundit’s cast the muhurt according to the dukes of Jyotisha shastra.
      Hope that answers your question. Happy Deepavali 🙏🏽 to you and your family.

      @ arihant , we need to look at calendars or panchangam to know the tithis. The timing is given clearly there. This video only explains the science behind it. Only trained people can make the calendars, so do not worry 🙏🏽

      Thanks for the advice. But I do not monetise this channel as Adyatmik knowledge should be freely shared. So I cannot pay for translations. Whenever I put Hindi meanings on my videos, it is thanks to some family of friend only.
      They cannot spare so much time to translate every episode. That is the reason.
