12 years ago? The quality of this video is like one of the high quality thoughtful long form game documentary videos that became commonplace only within the last couple of years. Insane. Figures that a video on a franchise so ahead of the curve would itself be ahead of the curve. I sincerely hope you create videos again some day.
This video is the reason why I created some of the worst tracks I can think of, and I believe that I created one of the worst tracks to graze the entirety of the racing genre. All because of you, thank you
I'm playing Wipeout 3 on an emulator with my DS3 controller and all of the graphics tweaks set to max. The game looks buttery smooth, like early PS3 quality, it's wild.
Gare D'Europa (2097 version) is my favourite course from any of the Wipeout games. I think it ws because i played it so much on the Demo disc that came with my PS1 before I bought the full game. Finally getting the Gold in the default Rapier class was a pretty amazing feeling.
17:01 Ah, Temtesh Bay, what a nightmare... The worse part was when the bulkheads bugged and opened too late, leaving you to a complete standstill. Ugh.
Be glad it was destroyed in 2164, apparently when F.E.I.S.A.R. used illegally customized missiles to rock the entire underground mining area. Unfortunately, this meant that pilots died there.
Now that you've done the Circuits from Hell, how about a video on the Circuits from Heaven, a collection of the widely regarded best and favourite tracks on WipEout.
If it's gonna be polar opposites then you'll probably want to feature the easier, more open circuits like Talon's Reach, Porto Korra, Altima VII, Florion Heights, Mandrashee, Vineta K, Anulpha Pass and Moa Therma
Idk I find Outpost 7 (especially the black run) to be far more frustrating than Silverstream or Spilskinanke. Silverstream's difficulty is a lil bit overrated though
I recently repaired my PS3. This video just reinvigorated my love for this series which inspired a decade of music making and gaming. I have to get my stuff from the warehouse to replay it all over again.
Using the opposite airbrake to the direction you are turning. In the older games it allowed you to shift the craft sideways to an extent. It's been superceded by sideshift.
I always liked the first game best. The tracks are so hard, and the speed penalty so harsh for even touching a wall that doing a clean lap was spectacularly satisfying.
Recently I unlocked Rapier class on the downloadable PSN version of wipE'out". I got first place even in Silverstream... that felt like such an achievement.
I think it's because the philosophy of the devs flipped on its head. I'm sure they went from total precision and brutal difficulty to making a satisfying experience for beginners and veterans, that can be made competitive with the incentive of perfection.
Phantom Road: Slim Line Slits is my nomination. It's super narrow, the slits in track destabilize your craft and the AI cheats like crazy... Wait... wrong series.
i always found it to be the easiest track in 2097 because the AI was always really slow on the home straight for some reason, so even if i messed up a lot in other parts of the track i would always be able to pull out a victory just by using turbos on that straight and blowing past everyone
I like how when you choose a song from SSX (Smartbomb), the first track has an Ice Cave in a snowy environment. I'm only familiar with HD, and I can definately attest to Modesto Heights difficulty. Oddly though it is also one of my favourites because of the environment design!
Wipeout Fusion wasn't my favourite of the series, but it had some of the BEST MUSIC ever! And you picked my favourite song for this vid (BT - Smartbomb - Plump DJs Remix)........really gets the adrenaline pumping!
"Bumper cam" is thee only way to go on these...that's amatuer stuff, seeing the craft, there's no rush in that, played & mastered Wipeout 1, 2, & 3 on PS1, rapier class, PS2 was just insanity!!!
Y'know, in hindsight I think Silverstream is WipE'out"'s No.1 bastard only 'cause it cheats. That track's surface is actually slippery, making controlling your craft a much bigger challenge than usual.
Your Wipeout videos are very well made and informative! Also love your commentator voice. I just came across your channel and while I'm usually a fighting game fan, it reminded me of the times I used to play futuristic racing games back during the PS2/Gamecube era. I used to own games like Wipeout Fusion and Pure, as well as similar racers like Extreme G 3, XGRA and F-Zero GX and while they all were difficult (I'm really average in racing games) I just loved the futuristic atmosphere and crazy sense of speed they had. Thanks to you, I went and purchased Wipeout HD Fury just yesterday and have been having fun trying to get back into the series. Thanks so much for the entertaining content (subscribed as well).
Great video mate! Really takes me back to many hours spent on those games. Looking at the speed of 2097 15 years later I can hardly believe I used to fly through those tracks! They just look impossible! I enjoyed your narration, keep up the good work.
Shoutouts to TVTropers That One Level: A nice cross-section of some vicious tracks from the series inception through to HD Fury can be seen [in this video]. A tight, very technical track with alternates routes at two points where choosing the wrong path meant you were effectively out of the running. So notorious, it's still considered one of the (if not THE) hardest courses in the series. -Temtesh Bay Course 2, from Fusion. A veritable checklist of horrible track design decisions. It was so bad that it became part of a major in-universe race disaster when the backstory to Pure was released. I actually loved the Hi Fumii track in Wipeout3. It was a lot of fun and that right corner sequence was a hell of an airbrake test, especially on phantom. P-Mar Project on the other hand, was just pure unadulterated evil. Probably one of the nastiest circuits ever.
Part of me kinda wants to see a revision or revisit to the circuits from hell. I've played a lot of WipEout games, and there are some tracks that i was kinda upset about not being on here, especially from WipEout pure's DLC tracks, which has revisions of old tracks, and completely unique tracks too. Personally, Altima VII from Pure on phantom really put my fingers through the works.
I loved Fusion so much. I need freedom to move around a bit and it really felt like the sweetest racing game I even loved the slowndowns you got maneuvering through a mayhem of missiles, quackes and black holes(or whatever it was) towards the end of a super fast track

Hi Fumii is my personal favourite wipeout track by far ! Whenever I for some reason get nostalgic of playing wipeout as a kid, I remember blazing past that awesome post-apocalyptic looking industrial setting in a brownish sunset, just perfect :)
The series comes back this summer on PS4 as WipEout Omega Collection !!!! Personally I'm so stoked for this game to return :D Mark your calendar for July 31st ! I'll pre-order the game as per usual for every WipEout game.

Another great video. I haven't played 2097 in so long. It was great just to see all of those tracks in motion. Funny, it's been well over a decade since I've played, but I STILL remembered that last 90° turn on the last track in 2097. Great video.
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! always loved wipeout since the ps1 back in 97, can't play the latest as i don't have a ps3 but got a tremendous record all through the fusion edition... and this is a great video, well done, crystal clear and all that. thank you

Great videos, I'm glad there is a dedicated Wipeout related channel I can enjoy, They really are great games. My Number 1 BARSTARD track would have to be Terminal from Wip3out.
Great video & commentary, brought back lots of good/frustrating memories. Wip3out is the only release i've never played as I fell out of love with gaming for a few years during its release but seeing it on this video really wants me to play it. Too bad it apparently doesn't run on the PS3 :( Always love watching your vids thanks for taking the time to make them.
Thanks for posting this. I used to love wipeout XL and have not played any of the newer games. I had no idea that there were so many sequels. I will have to pick them up.
I've played a fair bit of WipEout Fusion and I'd actually contend that Vohl Square 1 is the hardest of the Vohl Square courses. It's just an onslaught of sharp corners, much more so than Vohl Square 3, and the exceptionally narrow track through most of it doesn't help either. I also find Temtesh Bay 3 harder than Temtesh Bay 2. The jumps are just the wrong inclination to throw you off the track, and in the Forward variant, the open secion throws you into an even more random assortment of rocks with the sun directly in your eyes, blinding you completely to any hope of routing the track safely.
The first WipEout was such a blast when it came out in 1995! Right after I bought my PSX I played on the first level again and again thanks to the enclosed demo disc until I couldn't resist and sacrificed my little savings to but the full game. I never regretted the countless hours spent learning all these tracks curves and tricks. Today I would surely not be able to complete the game again hey almost 30 years have passed by! :p
If that's him performing in all races shown in this video then he has my respect, he's good under speed and knows when to roll, and doesn't exploit the game to get 5 rolls in a row like some people, takes half the fun out of it I think
I love the games, I'm a fan. But those ones you mentioned in Wipeout Pure are insanely difficult. Also Wipeout Pulse. The A.I. is ridiculous even on easy on Pulse.
Wipeout is so awesome! On of few games with a certain difficulty and a perfect learning curve. My favorite tracks recently are Downtown and Sol from 2048.
Hey you didn't show the secret passage way through the waterfall in the 2nd Wipeout Fusion track! :D But you described all the tracks I remember really well.
Looking back, I do wish that some additional tracks from Pure and Pulse could have been brought back for the Omega Collection. I do miss playing on Outpost 7 and Fort Gale
Temtesh Bay 2 was actually so awful that there is a canon story about how a bunch of racers got trapped in their and died.
Ubermall also punishing like Temtesh Bay R.
it will be a glorious day when this channel makes new videos

WipEout 1995 tracks are way harder than HD FURY.
Wipeout 3 that game hasn't aged a bit. Still looks fuckin' great especially with the brilliant art design.
