Not sure why I started using the Mobil 1 5W30 synthetic, but as mentioned below, Briggs + Stratton and Amsoil 5W30 small engine synthetics are both 100% synthetic. Better choice for the air-cooled generator engine. Thanks for the great feedback!

Much appreciated doing this service this week! I bought Mobile 1 Full Synthetic 5W30 as well. Maybe next time I will try something like mentioned below. Generac wants $17.50 a quart currently.

I agree with you on the service interval.
Running on propane or natural gas I would think the plugs would last longer if the quality is any good. Air filter was still good also.

For reference to everyone: my Generac owner's manual shows more steps for a schedule B maintenance. 1) The valves should also be adjusted between .002 to .004 gap at point cylinder is all the way up (gaskets replaced too). 2) The battery should be removed, water level checked (if its that type of battery) and battery should be load tested.
Check the manual for your exact generator and get exact settings from owner's manual. There are specific differences for each generator.

You are correct! At 3:20 in the video, you can see the Generac name plate. Thanks for reaching out.

Did you ever do the valve clearance check? I’m thinking about talking that and would love to watch before I try.

Thanks for the question. No, I have not. I was talking to another person who has a 20kw about this subject. He had not done this service also. The thought was, if the service is needed we should hear some tappet slap noise. Over time the valve clearance should only get looser, not tighter. That sounds reasonable to me, but when I have time I still want to do it!

@@BeltedGallowayHomestead I was warned by my installer that Generac will deny your warranty claim if this maintenance is not done on schedule (@4years, I think), so I am planning to do it. I found a video someone else did, btw, so don't rush it my account, thanks!.

I sold my old rigid and got a new honda inverter eu7000is and I was debating in adding honda oil or doing Mobil full synthetic guess I'll do what the manual says.

I wish I could of got a standby but our neighborhood is all electric no gas. A propane tank is too big for my backyard.

@@DanielGonzalez-un6rz thanks for the comments. Not sure why I started using the Mobil 5W-30 synthetic, but a small engine oil would be better for a generator motor.
As for the size of tank, they do make smaller ones. They also have some that stand up horizontal.

If you’re going to do a full video on a schedule B maintenance then you should do the full schedule B, you did a scheduled A maintenance 😂

Mobil 1 and other automobile oils do not contain enough zinc and phosphorus for air cooled engines especially LP and NG they work ok for short runs but under heavy load for continuous running they break down they don't have the film strength I highly recommend something like Amsoil 5w30 true small engine oil or Generac oil they are engineered for this type of application I use both depending on what I have I also run small engine oil in my Exmark mower 15w50 Amsoil EFI kohler engine keep that old air filter Generacs are prone to air filter freezing up in extreme cold weather

Thanks for the information! Not sure why I started using the Mobil 1. Maybe because it was synthetic and I wanted good winter starting. I am aware of the air filter freezing, but I have never had that problem. Thanks again for reaching out.

@Daniel Gonzalez Briggs and Stratton 5w30 synthetic is also really good the Amsoil are Briggs are both 100% synthetic, Mobil 1 is not, 99% of car oils are not even close to 100% they only need a certain percentage to be labeled full synthetic people are figuring this out aren't very happy Amsoil car oil is 100% synthetic one of very few but still not ideal for air cooled engines
