The Velvet Underground: i guess you guys aren't ready for that yet, but your kids are gonna love it
damn
Love that back to the future reference bro
This comment is amazing
that's true
This is a quote from Waterworld that describes this whole thing: "It does look like shit".
Fun fact: Lou Reed wrote this song, but felt like he couldn’t sing this song for being to innocent and pure for him. He let the drummer, Maureen Tucker, sing it, despite not being a singer at all. The result: a timeless masterpiece
Innocent and pure? Huh, I always thought that song was about suicide, or at least about withdrawing yourself from life. But now that I think about it, it's probably just about wanting the night, and therefore the party, to last forever - maybe as a form of escapism from everyday life, but not, like, peacing out from life altogether.
@@Wischmopp95 he wants a innocent voice to give a cynical look to the lyrics, he's talking bout suicide and depression, but he wants it to sound "pure" only to mock the morality, a "pure" voice singing such an unholy thing (for the Church suicide is unholy)
Well, at least That's what I interpreted
I am glad "moe" Tucker is still alive!
moe tucker by the jamc is a goated song, along with this one

Ironically, they were going to a retro thing when they wrote this song. They were calling back to song style from the 1930s when they wrote this.
This is like a Wes Anderson movie. The colors of the instruments and her voice reminds me the palate color of The royal Tenenbaums.
even the shots lmao
That videoclip was not directed by Velvet Underground btw. It's a completely unrelated group of Mexican artists who won the context to make a music video for this. And I quite agree it looks like a Wes movie - reminds me of Midsommar to some extent.
In fact, their is a Velvet Underground song in The Royal Tenenbaum. "Sunday Morning" (with Nico), at the end, if I correctly remember.
That movie is what lead to my obsession with Elliott Smith. Great movie and soundtrack.

The velvet underground were so ahead of their time. It’s hard to believe that at the time most people didn’t like their sound.
I totally agree with you Lilly Hoy! 😊
The saying is that only about 1000 people bought their first album but every one of those people went out and started a band. Just look sometime at how many bands list the Velvet Underground as one of their influences.
The Beatles would go and see the Velvet Underground at Max's Kansas City when they were in NYC.
@@ravedoyer I know George Harrison,my favorite beatle as a solo songwriter ,liked the VUs but did the other Beatles actually knew about them, that would explain the velvet-ish sound in The White Album and Abbey Road, not that it actually matters since the velvets are much much better, both bands were great though but the the VUs were more important.

The woman is Mo Tucker...drummer and vocalist for the early Velvet Underground. She’s the one who co-lead sings on the song I’m Sticking With You. Her voice has a sweet innocence to it that contrasted to the more avant-grade, sometimes risqué music the band played.

It's funny to think the woman singing this (Moe Tucker, who was also the drummer for VU) went to work for Wal-Mart for like 10 years in the 1980s before touring with Half-Japanese, an artpunk band. She became a tea party conservative in the 2000's, meaning she was likely always conservative to some degree, which I find interesting given her musical associations (VU had been managed by Andy Warhol and had a strong association with that world of people generally).

I love Mo Tucker's vocals. They won't advance her far in the American Idol competition ,but it has a certain realistic quality that really brings the song to life and makes it simultaneously sad and hopeful. I only discovered this song several years ago and just flipped over it. I am an admittedly "casual" fan of Velvet Underground and have only a couple of their early albums when they were rereleased on vinyl back in the 90's but it never inspired me to really get into the band seriously. Every so often a song drifts into my orbit. I cannot recall how I found this song....or perhaps the song found me. Lou Reed was a great songwriter who could be emotional without being sappy or overly sentimental. There was always a little edge or quirk that set them apart.
I don't think I have ever related to a song so much and I really don't know what to think of that. I really can't be the only one in this situation, I'm not that special of a person.
That aside, I fucking love this song. I still can't believe that nobody in my personal life knows anything about The Velvet Underground when it's arguably about as popular if not more than like Aphrodite Child.
