My father was named Tom and he loved this song so much we used to call him Major Tom for fun. My dad was the main reason I got into Bowie and music in general. He just past away this week from cancer and I'm devastated by his loss. The stars look very different today. :-(

Major Tom Stafford was a classmate and friend of my father at the Naval Academy. Both flew the F-86 Saber Jet in the Air Force.
The men of that generation are those of impeccable honor, unimaginable intellect and the highest character. They make we of the next generation look like degenerates, even though most of us are quite honorable.
My Dad is almost 94 years old and is so very, very proud to have been a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and an F-86 fighter pilot. I've met many of his classmates over the years, including several who are recipients of the Naval Cross, and I can tell you that these men were for real.
