A New Beginning // Bicycle Touring Southeast Asia EP1

- Welcome to the first episode of my solo bicycle tour of Southeast Asia.
After having a short holiday in Bali, I begin cycling to the port of Gilimanuk to catch the ferry to Java. Java is like nowhere I have ever been before and after a morning spent getting accustomed to bike touring in crazy traffic, I track down a hotel and prepare for the road ahead.
I hope you'll enjoy this series of my time bicycle touring Southeast Asia.

It's been a long time, but I'm finally back on the road!
I had a lot of expectations about how the tour would be and what kind of videos I would make, but I have had those expectations well and truly shattered. Setting off on a solo tour of Southeast Asia has already been a crazy, intense experience and I'm looking forward to sharing it with you.
I hope you guys enjoy this first installment and continue to enjoy the series as I film it.
Nice one -- great to see the first video of the new series!
Nice one! Glad to see that you're on the road. Looking forward to more videos!
Thanks, mate!
Left Australia about 7 weeks ago and I've been on the road for 5. It's been hard getting the time, energy and facilities to sit down and edit the footage, but I'm getting there!
Hope you enjoy!
Great to see you back Mate! (AKA Beersodden)
Thanks mate! 😁
Fantastic, I’ve been waiting for your update, I thought you were having too much fun to post a video. Well done, nicely edited, and punchy video, interesting to get a view of this part of the world.
I think I would go spare, turning up to accomodation after a hot day and no one there. Well done for keeping your cool!
Haha, yeah it was brutal!
Getting anything editing in Indonesia has been very difficult. It's difficult to get the footage and also difficult to find the time to edit. I have very limited visa time and there has been just so much going on...
Hopefully now I can get some momentum going with it!
Great to see the videos have started again Dave.
Thanks Jim! Hope you enjoy them!
That’s a fantastic first episode! Well done 👌🏻 Looking forward to the next one😃
Thanks guys! ❤️
Great to see you back on the road mate. It was great watching your Aussie adventure, can’t wait for the videos in Asia. Cheers!
Thanks so much, mate! Really hope you enjoy! 😁
It sure does look intense! Really enjoyed watching your Australian adventures, and look forward to seeing how this tour goes.
Thanks so much! Hope you enjoy the next ones!
Glad to see you back! Wow! That's all next level! Travel safe!
Thanks! 😊
Hey Bro! when I was in Java in the late 80's there was like 180 million people on that Island. And those mosks go off like 5 times a day everyday especially at 5am you won't need an alarm clock. I had the time of my life in Java absolutely loved it. Good luck with the traffic I mainly got around on a motor bike.
Haha, yeah mate!
Spoiler alert: I've been in Sumatra the last few weeks and they're even more full on up there! All part of the cultural experience though!
It's been a great time. I've been super out of my comfort zone and that's what it's all about.
Cheers!
Great video brother%%
Thanx a bunch!!
Thanks mate!
Long time since I was in Bali, cracked up when you said it was intense.Wait till you get to Java. Prayers morning and afternoon every day.
Haha, yep - and Java is nothing compared to the busier parts of Sumatra!
Gotta work up to it though! 🤣
Great vid very intense traffic you navigated extremely well....wait til you hit Vietnam its another level as well👍👍👍👍
Thank-you sir!
Not a bad video at all. I liked the format which let the viewers experience some of the real life issues when doing such a journey.
Thanks John!
@@VeloObscura You're welcome. All the best for your trip ahead. Looking forward to seeing your travels.
Hi Dave, could you please do a video showing how you pack all your gear on your bike please Dave? thank you for your videos please Dave
Sometime yes!
@@VeloObscura ok Great, I really enjoy your videos I am new to bike touring.
I purchased a Kona Sutra LTD here in Australia and I have all the gear now,
I am very interested to see how you pack your gear on your bike so I can get the weight correct for my bike gear please Dave....thanks Dave
Great stuff!! Tell us more about the food next time.
Easier said than done! 🤣
@@VeloObscura Hey I'm full of advice. Most of it is loony!
🤣
I've already filmed a ton of stuff and found it quite hard to do the food stuff. There should be a couple of interesting moments, but we'll see - I might be able to voiceover some of it.
After I've had a bit of time to reflect in Melaka, hopefully I can get more in future.
