    Now I'm waxing nostalgic over my old Ritchie Ultra. I'll never forget that bike and if I ever saw one I'd grab it!

      Dude! There was one on Kijiji recently. Go get it. We'll start a retropacking gang!

    Nice build! I just "finished" building out my 1998 Barracuda XC URT frame into a softtail gravel bike. I put on a Carver rigid, steel fork with an axle to crown measurement of 440mm. I am running a set of Paul Components Cross Stop 3's front and rear with a set of Dia-compe moto style levers from 1986, Satori Aero bars (Copy of the Origin8 Strongbow), 1x7 drivetrain, friction shifter, 11-34 cassette, and a 30t chainring.

      Very cool. I remember assembling a lot of Barracuda bikes back in the day. Got any big plans for it?

      @@bikebikerides Sure do, I have already taken it on several gravel rides. It works very well with the 1 x 7 drivetrain and the rear suspension takes the edge off any rough sections. I am looking at front and rear racks because I plan on using it next year to ride the Katy Trail in Missouri next year.

      They felt a lot better by the end of the ride, that's for sure.

    Why so knobby tires,wouldnt something faster be more appropriate for these type of rides?

    • @bikebikerides
      @bikebikerides  Před 22 dny

      These are the tires that came with the bike when I bought it used. They are very slow for sure. I have a set of Schwalbe Smart Sam tires on order which will be much more appropriate for the mixed terrain riding I'll be doing with this bike.

      @@bikebikerides Smart sam is a very fast and very grippy tire but they are highly prone to punctures
