I remember when I would watch a UGA game on TV and would turn it down and turn up the radio to listen to Larry. He was a part of all of our lives for those of us who are UGA fans. RIP Larry and make sure you give a dog biscuit to all of those UGAs up there with you!! You'll be missed tremendously!!
Larry Munson made me a Bulldog. I was not a Dawg fan when I started college at UGA in 1992. I didn't care about college ball. but I used to deliver pizza in my freshman year, and would listen to Georgia games out of boredom. His calls. his obvious passion. the way he painted each play with emotion and desperation made me care about the games. it made me care about every snap. He turned me from just being a student to a Dawg.
Larry, UGA games won't be the same without you. The crucial moments, big plays, and all of my memories of UGA football have your voice as the soundtrack.
Simply the best ever. Larry Munson is a true Dawg fan...and his calling of the game reflects that. He is truly one of us. Enjoy your retirement, Larry. We'll miss you. GO DAWGS!
RIP from an Auburn fan. There will never be another announcer like him. I live in Georgia and he was so important to my state and to the SEC. A true legend
Mississippi state student dad went to georgia grew up listening to munson every saturday the best announcer ever and defines tradition makes me proud to be in the south.Go Dawgs and goodluck Saturday
When my brother moved away from the South and before the advent of ESPN, he could not get UGA football on TV or radio. He would call me at game time and I would place the phone in front of the radio at my house and he would listen to Larry call the games. One of many football Saturdays he enjoyed thanks to Larry Munson!
The quality of Munson's voice was particularly special. He had a resonant baritone that was pleasant to the ear, and moreover with his upper Midwestern accent, it was also crystal clear. Even with all the crowd noise behind him, you could hear every syllable he uttered. When he got excited, you got excited. When he described the scene, you "saw" it like you were there. And that is as much as you can ask of a radio sportscaster. God bless Larry Munson.
RIP Larry Munson from Gamecock Nation. You were the best ever, and anyone who says otherwise isn't being honest. I'll be pulling for your Dawgs the rest of the way. See you down the road GOAT!
Sorry to see the waning of an era. Even as a kid in rual Georgia in the 80s, I remember listening to Munson on the radio. His voice was the most distinguishable that I've ever heard. I hate to see him not be able to travel anymore for the away games. He'll always live forever to me.
He was one of the best. And I'm not even a Dawgs fan. For 40+ years he broadcast with passion the Georgia Dawg games. One of the best , his commentary ingrained in our minds. Who can forget "Run Lindsay Run" , "Hobnail Boot" , "My God a Touchdown" , "My God a Freshman" Enjoy retirement Larry. Truly one of the best.
It's great to see how many people came to watch this video after hearing news of his passing. God bless him and his family. Bulldog Nation lost a great one today. DAWGS! Let's win it for Larry!
I was a student at UGA 78-82, before these new fangled electronics. I used to have a transistor radio in my pocket under my Redcoat Band jacket with an earphone. When we sat in the stands, I would put the earphone in my ear to listen to Larry. Those were good times... listening to Larry call the Dawgs in Sanford Statium. HOW BOUT THEM DAWGS!
I'm a big UT fan, and even I admit that Munson was an amazing announcer and is a tribute to the great tradition of SEC football. Some of those calls, particularly the first one with Walker, make me shiver.
I watched this with chill bumps and teary eyes recalling the many times I've sat 'tween the hedges watching the game live, but listening to Larry Munson on the radio. I've watched many Georgia games on TV with the TV volume off and the radio on to listen to Larry Munson call the game. And tonight for the first time in decades, we won't be able to listen to the Voice of the Dawgs call the game (Georgia VS Alabama).
We lost Larry five years ago today. Thanks for these memories. Still can listen to his Georgia/Florida Lindsay Scott call without crying - even here at my desk at work. Miss you, Larry. DGD!
I was 10 years old during that season, and it was something! It was just amazing with each win, but that Florida game was just incredible! And that call..."run Lindsay"!
Sweet! I can still recall being fortunate enough to shake his hand after he had been the guest speaker at Bulldog Fan Club dinner many years ago. He is a true UGA treasure. Thanks for the great video-brings back some wonderful memories! But for now- its time to kick some Bama ass this Saturday! Go Dawgs!
My husband and I would turn on the TV every Saturday and then turn it down, and turn on the radio...to watch the game and hear Larry Munson make the calls. I miss that sweet man.
To all of you florida fans..have some class. i'm not a georgia fan but i do know munson was the best play by play guy i ever heard. I hate that he has retired. he will definitely be missed.
I am a lifelong Alabama fan, who has broadcast high school football for around 15 years. Larry was one of the best there was, loved his calls. Rest in peace.
Great job, thank you.My mom was almost 80 when she discovered Munson.I would turn to the game for her,but she did'nt get into the Dawgs untill i turned off the sound ,turned on Munson,She was set in her ways, like a lot off the Greatest Generation, but she instantly fell in love with Munson and those "Little Ole Boys" that try so hard(The Dawgs) She listened to the games for the rest of her life, calling me after every game."Well son, those "Little ole Boys" played hard "against ever who we played
RIP from a Kentucky fan, as a guy who wants to go into broadcasting and especially sports broadcasting, Munson is one hell of an influence. My heart goes out to all of you Dawg fans.
Being a Georgia Tech fan I can say without a doubt that Larry Munson is the best play caller there has ever been. My dad was a big Georgia Bulldog fan and would have the game on tv but listen to Munson call the plays on radio. Thats probably the biggest reason I also like the DAWGS
No doubt Larry is sitting with the UGA's and having a good old time. There will never be another UGA broadcaster with the power to bring chills and thrills like Munson. He will be missed.
I’ve been going to Georgia games since before I could remember. I’d always listen to the Larry talk, but never know who he was. But as I went to more and more games, Larry became a hero and family to me. I’d give anything just to hear his voice one more time. And I can’t even imagine how he would’ve reacted if he saw our Dawgs going to the National Championship. Rest In Peace Larry
@countrygentlemen My hat is off to a true southern gentleman such as yourself.. I myself am a Georgia fan born and raised in Athens, but when we can come together on stuff like this it shows what the south is all about!
So that right there is pretty much the best announcer there was and will ever be in college football. He is a legend. And he will be missed DEARLY. Gosh. Georgia Football won't be the same without him. :(
I love Larry Munson! My dad always claimed that his 1980 call of the UGA vs Fla game (run Lindsay run) was his motivation for naming me. I think the whole state will be in morning when he passes or retires. Knowing Larry, they will probably come together.
For any college football fan this guy is a great listen "Running, running, LOOK AT THE SUGAR FALLING OUT OF THE SKY" and "WE JUST STEPPED ON THEIR THROATS" are pure gold. I am not even a fan of Georgia but I want to listen to this guy.
Forever a Fall Saturday in Athens , love you and miss y’all Jon and Babs...Damn Good Dawgs...until that day miss you here on earth. Smoke a cigar with Larry for me Pops
While all eyes seem to be on Penn State, this week Georgia fans have their eyes on Athens. We saw a joyful Mark Richt kiss his wife as a renewed UGA jumped back into the fray by clenching our spot in the SEC championship against LSU and we saw a legend pass into the night. Rest in peace Larry, your insight into UGA was always well said. Hunker down boys...
Alabama fan here but I used to LOVE to catch a Larry Munson called Georgia game. In my opinion he was the greatest (sorry Eli Gold) college play by play announcer. Sugar Falls from the sky, run Lindsey run, I went right thru the chair and a hob nail boot thru Tennessee. The man was the best. Bless you God for putting Larry Munson on this earth.
, I've been a die-hard Georgia fan back as far as I can remember. My dad and my uncles and Grandad all played ball at the University of Georgia. We always would cut the sound down on the TV and get Munson on the radio. It just wasn't Georgia football without the 12th man. To this day we still fire up some of the old calls before the Georgia games. Incredible play by play guy. May the memories of Larry Munson live on.
Condolences to the Munson family. Rest in peace Larry. You will be forever remebered by the Bulldog Nation as the best. P.S.: I know UGA's I-VIII will be glad to see their old friend Larry.
.....man that just makes me glisten with Georgia pride nothin like hearin Munsun say "RUN LINDSAY RUN!" I got my highlight thought....that game against Auburn with that over the CB Catch I remeber that......man.....GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!!1

We'll miss you Larry! Respects from an Alabama fan.
Munson is the only person that makes you mute the tv and listen to him do play by play. I will miss him next year. Georgia all the way next year!
As a kid, I'd listen to the Bulldog's every Saturday. Just to hear Mr. Munson call those games brought them to life.
Great video.
RIP Larry Munson from Gamecock Nation. You were the best ever, and anyone who says otherwise isn't being honest. I'll be pulling for your Dawgs the rest of the way. See you down the road GOAT!

How fortunate we were to have Larry Munson on our side

Look at the sugar falling out of the sky! RIP Larry Munson. Never forgotten.

"Ol' Lady Luck just laughed out loud!" Larry, you are missed; but you'll never be forgotten. Wish you the best !!!
Tennessee fan here and as a fellow school with a GOAT radio announcer (John Ward). Mr. Munson is definitely up there as one of the GOAT's.
I watched this with chill bumps and teary eyes recalling the many times I've sat 'tween the hedges watching the game live, but listening to Larry Munson on the radio. I've watched many Georgia games on TV with the TV volume off and the radio on to listen to Larry Munson call the game.
