  • Thought this may be helpful for others considering this for their home.
    In case you're curious, I used couplers in order to use some of the existing valves and PEX. I could have made new PEX runs, but didn't have the crimp removal tool on me. Feel free to comment with any questions or suggestions for improvement.

    Hello Matt,
    Thank you for this video!
    We have 1” coming into the house. I am concerned about the water pressure. Could you please tell us why you chose this product, how it compares to others, what’s the water pressure like coming into the house, do you feel a reduction with sinks showers hoses, how’s maintenance/filter changes?
    Thanks,
    Emile

    The city doesn't installa pressure reducer for you right where it comes into the home i've always seen home shave them shoul dbe right where the water comes in the house. LIttle screw adjusts what the water pressure should be. Water coming in from the street is always going to be insane at least 120psi. You want your home to be less then 100. You should also install an expansion tank since most municipalities have one way flow valves, that means if the pressure in your water pipes goes up (like when you use all your hot water and all the faucets are shut and the water heats up, it has no where to expand to and can break pipes or weak fittings and cause leaks in faucets.

    Thanks for the video! Very helpful. Why did you install the pressure reducer? Does the filtration system require a certain pressure? I just bought this filtration system and plan to install next month.

      @FamilyManTN  Před 2 lety

      Glad it hear this was helpful! The unit requires 80 psi or less. Our home pressure was at 120. There’s a $10 pressure gauge to test your house pressure at a hose bib.

    What did you use to connect the 1" NPT to 3/4" PEX adapter? Standard plumbers tape? Any puddy? I just broke two female NPT fittings on a different system trying to get the darn thing to not leak at the connection. Maybe I need better fittings.

    • @FamilyManTN

      Standard plumbing tape and brass fittings.

      @@FamilyManTN Thanks! Are the female connections plastic or brass? The system I was trying to install was brass. I gave up and switched brand. The new system I installed has plastic fittings which worked great the first try. Used thread sealant in addition to tape.

    I'm going to install this on my well water system. Did this lower your water pressure by any chance

    • @FamilyManTN
      @FamilyManTN  Před rokem +2

      It doesn't lower the pressure on its own. The unit requires a max pressure of 80 psi, so if the well pressure is above that, you'll need a similar reducer to the one I installed.

    • @randylawrence7022
      @randylawrence7022 Před rokem

      My well pressure switch is a 40/60 do you think that would be fine for this system or does it have to be 80

    • @FamilyManTN
      @FamilyManTN  Před rokem

      @@randylawrence7022 That's a good question to clarify with the company. The website documentation only states a *maximum* of 80, but doesn't mention a minimum for it to function properly.

    is this considered a water softener? i have a lot of build up of minerals and other deposits on my shower heads and sinks, will this help?

    • @FamilyManTN
      @FamilyManTN  Před rokem +1

      No, it’s not considered a water softener. But it should help reduce the build up. Tip: when you turn off your main water valve to install a system like this or so any maintenance, take off every faucet head (sinks and showers) before using each fixture. let the water run out without the heads for a few seconds and then put the heads back on. I installed a new sink once and it immediately clogged the brand new faucet head (old house) because I didn’t know to do this.

      It’s holding up great! The clear filter on the right is only beginning to show discoloration. I should post an update because I have since added a UV filter.

    thanks for the video. do you have a list of parts you used for the adapters from filter (1 inch) to pipe? I have to install it for my daughter who leaves in another city and don't have a unit

    • @FamilyManTN
      @FamilyManTN  Před rokem

      I don’t, but from memory: from the unit you’ll need two 1” male thread to 3/4” pex male (I used brass). The rest is 3/4” valves, elbows, etc. The pressure reducer (if you need one) is also 3/4” pex.

    Can I install it this close as 1 inch to the water heater tanks? This is the best sport to the main water pipe

    • @FamilyManTN
      @FamilyManTN  Před 2 lety

      You shouldn't connect PEX directly to the heater. But as far as proximity of PEX to the heater itself, this is the only thing I've been able to find: "When connecting PEX tube to gas tank or tankless water heaters, the tube must be kept at least 6 inches away from the exhaust vent of the heater." inspectapedia.com/plumbing/PEX-Water-Heater-Piping.php
