House prices have doubled in the last 3 years in Buffalo. Rentals are about impossible to find. Our city government tries to act like Buffalo is a small Jackson Hole. Property taxes have also gone up. I live in the newer part of town, and house prices around me are ridiculous. Makes it hard for the locals. I live here because of the mountains.
I was in Buffalo, Wy. Twice in my life. First time in 1962 with the Boys Scouts. There was a public swimming pond with a diving platform. The next time was in 1974. My car needed a rest, so I went for a walk with this feeling that I had been there before and sure enough I found that same swimming pond with the diving platform. I’m google earthing it now and can’t find it. Oh well. Things change in 50 years.
Yes it is still there. It is no longer rock bottomed. They upgraded it to cement. But it is still filled from Clear Creek that flows through Buffalo. My daughter is the coach Gillette WY (70miles east). When they have swim meets there in the summer the water is still sooo cold that many of her swimmers decline to participate. Can ya blame them??😂
A great video as always ! A beautiful old town. The hotel and saloon is amazing, so much history and character ! I love the mural with the horses ! Thanks so much, Joe and Nic.😊💖
It is really high, but a lot of new people are moving into Wyoming, Montana and Idaho. Its the competition from them to find places like that in Buffalo that is driving the market up out of sight. Prices in these areas have easily doubled and in a lot of cases tripled in the last 5 years.
It is how non- Americans see the US to this day but this dear little town is a true exception to the reality of towns with endless empty downtowns and high unemployment and falling down, burned out homes! I like Joe's vids because he gives you a good dose of reality! The only other one I regularly watch is CharlieBos. Reality rules!
I spent the night at the OXY in 2010 or so. I stayed in the Herbert Hoover room. On Thursday evening they have local talent playing good REAL Country music. According to my nephew, that still lives there, they still do that. Great place to visit. Yup housing prices are high. You’re paying for the beauty.
Thank you Joe and Nicole. It makes me so happy when I see a new video ! Buffalo 🦬 is a beautiful town, love the houses 🏡 and statues. Love from B. C. Canada 🍁
What a lovely town! Amazing statues and art! Gorgeous housing with nice lots! Love the hotel and the restaurant is beautiful! I'm a sucker for tin roofs! Civilised!
We visited Buffalo this time last year. Love the people! Thursday night jam at the Occidental was great. Bison burger pretty good, too. Plan to go back!
Joe, the car in the river (creek) was probably placed there purposely to protect that corner from erosion to keep the adjacent road stable. I have seen that done in the hills of Utah in my boyhood in the '60s which would be correct as that car was from the late 40's to early 50's. Another very good video. That hotel / bar was very interesting. The plaster work on the ceiling would be very difficult to duplicate today because it is a lost art. The houses in town were also interesting and quite eclectic. Living there however would be challenging as the big city is quite a drive in any direction. I live remote here at Canyon Lake, however the 7th largest city in America (SA) is a 1/2 hour drive away. For Buffalo, Wyoming that is not the case. The winters are also quite severe. After the 1st winter many people leave Wyoming because it is just too difficult. I'd rather deal with the Texas heat. You don't have to shovel heat but you do have to shovel snow. I don't see many people wanting to live there. A nice place to visit but not a place to winter at.
OZ// Thanks U2 ! Nice to see Buffalo- and that its historic aspect in preserved. Dont forget to take some time-out Joey, I know that you do a lot of extra work other than what we see, and travelling can take its toll. Take care. CY Sth Australia.
One thing I am missing where is the cat Joe no cats, I always love when you guys post your meals , I love grilled salmon and make it often , for steak we buy New York strips , and me and the wife split one . Chelan , Washington has a bar so similar and bar food just seems to always be right.
The Occidental is haunted. I was there over 25 yrs ago when the lady who renovated it opened after decades of being shuttered. Fascinati g history. It was featured on one of those ghost hunting shows if you peruse the internet.
As an expat who has lived in every western state except Utah, these videos do alot for my homesickness for the western landscapes. I've been to almost all of your spots. There's nothing like driving thru the countryside under that Big Sky.
Buffalo was featured on HGTV Home Town Kick Start either last year or the year before where they helped revitalize the town and helped get a few businesses back up and running.
Rock hounding in the mountains west of town is fantastic, but the huge Lake Trout in the reservoir east of town just stay under a dock and ignore anything you offer them.
After working a few months of 80 hour weeks in Gillette, WY. I would rent a cabin at the Z Bar motel in Buffalo, WY. to unwind for a few days, before hitting it again.
The lack of Graffiti was so evident, Why could that be? Oh, I forgot the demographics. Beautiful town respected by it's residents. Thanks again Joe & Nic.

Thank you Joe. I have to say Buffalo, Wyoming has some of the most striking murals of all the places you have visited and as for the plaque under the bell 'blah, blah blah SIMPLER Times' not so sure abour that. Being a pioneer would be taxing and those of us with a 21st century mind set and lifestyle probably would not do well.😀...looking forward to your next post.
Was a little disappointed you didn't show the horse statues across the street from the other statues. The other statues have to do with the Johnson County War, or Wyoming Range War 1889-1895. Cattle companies vs 'rustlers' who were mostly settlers competing for livestock, land and water rights.
I accidentally discovered your vlogs yesterday and I really enjoyed them a lot. I spent a lot of hours watching the ghost towns and lonely roads. Keep up the good work!
The westerns town are great. It seems nice and quiet out there. I figured the restaurant would be old fashioned. I never seen a restaurant with deer heads on the walls for decoration, it gives out the western vibes. This must be a hunting community.

Hi Joe Thanks a lot for showing this tiny beautiful old wild west town of Buffalo, WY. I liked the town very much so there will be 2/3 more revisions of the video. Occidental Hotel n Saloon is phenomenal brimming with wild west history. The murals on walls in Town are attending catching. Montana, Wyoming, North n South Dakota are historically rich with old wild west culture abound and truly speaking one patch of land culturally same. However I just wonder you crossed imaginary geographical boundary between Montana and entered WY. I don't know whether the name 'WYOMING' itself has any magnetic attraction in it. Whatever I read, viewed and imagined about Wyoming I wrote 'Song of Wyoming' describing it's land, people and culture without paying a visit to the state. The song is copyrighted. Since you are entering North Dakota the excitement heightens. Waiting. Good Luck!
Love this! I live in Gillette-68 miles east of Buffalo and visit the area and mountains frequently. For your question about the salmon. About the only type of fish in the creeks there are going to be trout-brook trout, rainbow trout, maybe a cutthroat now and then but no salmon. Buffalo’s city pool is iconic and is filled by Clear creek. Used to be river rock bottom back in the day but has been remodeled to cement now. It’s in a beautiful city park just west of downtown. Buffalo is the town the Netflix series “Longmire” is based on and by author, Craig Johnson’s many novels. I could go on and on about Buffalo and the surrounding area!! ❤
Those cars over the bank were probably put there for erosion control from the creek. It used to be very common to use cars for river/creek bank erosion control.
350k for the little house on Wyoming. The cars in the creek were put there to stop erosion in the bend of the stream, TVA "Tennessee Valley Authority in Tn did it until the 80's using old vehicles in the bank then cover them with stones. To answer Nicole's question on the Salmon it is not a common species for Wyoming
Well howdy pardner, thanks for taking me back to Buffalo! (I was there back in August) It's a great place to visit; nice folks, historic downtown and museum, cool murals, the once-largest public swimming pool in the west...what more can you ask? The town is proud of being the setting of the TV show "Longmire" -- they have a celebration every summer in the sheriff's honor. (This despite the majority of the series being filmed in and around Las Vegas NM 🙂) I'm sure you decided to dine at the Occidental because of of it's history, but if you ever make it back to Buffalo I'd recommend The Bozeman Trail Steakhouse. Happy trails!
Those cars along the riverbank were from previous flood damage that no one ever cleaned up. I would have been SERIOUSLY upset if I ever got a ribeye that thin!
We were there a couple of years ago. Not sure if you knew, but, it was the setting for the series “Longmire”, which we loved. We were surprised you didn’t mention that because it was everywhere. On another note, just wondering why Nicole hasn’t been imbibing lately?? Inquiring minds want to know. 😊
What a charming town. Loved the murals. Your travels always calm me. Thanks!!! 🙂Oh, those sculptures were great too. I wonder how cold it gets and how much snow. Hope you go to see Mt.Rushmore and Crazy Horse next. Safe travels!
Did you hit any "Bison Jams"? We did just last August in Yellowstone. We also stayed a few nights in Cody....a neat little town with great restaurants and a lot of history...PLUS we saw a rodeo one evening.
Another superb travelogue. I wonder if you would consider digging a little more into the facilities and shops on what you call Main St (or is it downtown). What we in England call the High Street. A lot of the High Streets here in England are starting to look a bit gap toothed and tatty as supermarkets and internet mail order companies eat into High street viability. There's a real push back going on to save the High Street but it seems to be a loosing battle. All the best from across the pond.
When I saw the sign for for Johnson County the first thing I thought of was the Johnson County War of 1889-1893, also called the Wyoming Range War. A mini-series was made about this about twenty years ago or so, and of course the 1980 movie "Heaven's Gate" also was somewhat based on the story.
Man for videos like this in places people don't usually visit like Wyoming, you ahould be driving around and showing all the geography in such a cool place. I am thinking about moving to Wyoming! Thanks for the video!
Grew up in that area. You can follow clear creek trail quite aways, believe you can actually hike it up too mosier gulch. If you Take a right off main onto Fort it turns into 16 and goes right up over the mountain. The occidental busy bee cafe, my great aunt worked in the original, it was "big deal" when the original was torn down...there used to be an area near city hall where kids would have "fights".
It's easy to imagine, as a over-boozed visitors of the saloon, already have beated a taper in a drunk fighting, are trying to force the stuffed bear to play on piano a "Maple Leaf" ragtime.
Another great video! I was in Eastern Wyoming in 2018, and I visited Devils Tower and did some hiking there. I was in Gillette, Wyoming, which is another nice town. And I don’t know if you’ll ever been to a town named Bill, but it was interesting. I drove through there at night. All our interstates are quite something, but I-90 is our longest at over 3,000 miles.
I worked in an around Buffalo for four years on the pipeline. Really good fishing in the mountains at Tie Hack and good motor cycle riding. Sheridan is also a cool place
I like you two!! Just stumbled across you in my 'recommended list' and what a charming and pleasant couple - and vlog - you make. Thanking you from England.🫖🍰
I was living in Pierre, South Dakota in my mid 20s and I remember walking though the city and beginning to notice the - often common and humble - older houses and their interesting and creative form and details, more beautiful, more interesting and more creative than the modern architect-designed buildings I was trained to appreciate in architecture school; and I began to equally appreciate the pre-modern civic and commercial buildings in the city (I particularly remember the quiet classical serenity of the WW1 memorial building there). I share and appreciate your eye for older houses and buildings - they truly are a superior kind of architecture.
In most of your vids, I hardly see any people walking in the towns. I live in a small shoreline town, and on any day the town has its residents walking around, enjoying a coffee on the town green, waking their pets, shopping, ...
Hey Joe, love traveling with you! Wondered if you’ve ever considered adding weather information? Certainly an important consideration in visiting or moving somewhere. Thanks for your excellent tours!
for once, no homeless person in sight. very charming rustic place. very clean, tidy n orderly. pleasant place to dwell in. 👍
not many people in sight in general....
Low crime, no litter, no homeless camps, no graffiti---America needs to learn from Buffalo!
Who in their right mind would want to be homeless in Wyoming?
Low crime? An't nobody there.
@@jthusany😂🤣
@@rtre870Certainty not me, but, I wouldn’t want to be homeless anywhere!
Any jobs in the area?
Buffalo looks like a nice little town. Winters would be pretty darn rough. Joe & Nic's Road trips are really wonderful. Cannot thank you enough.
A lot of places use old car bodies to control erosion along river banks.
96 S Wyoming, $350k, 1300 sq ft, built in 1900. Cute little house, finished attic.
That price is outrageous?
Imagine paying $350k to live in the middle of nowhere, and not even have enough property to farm or ranch.
I'm as old as dirt now, but I grew up in Wyoming . If you can handle the cold and wind, Wyoming is a great state to live.
Exactly 💯
Nicole's sense of humor cracks me up 😂😂😂
House on market for $350k. 3 beds, 1 bath. Pretty high priced.
Also says built in 1900, when Queen Victoria was still on the throne and Teddy Roosevelt was a 41 year old Vice President. 😂
House prices have doubled in the last 3 years in Buffalo. Rentals are about impossible to find. Our city government tries to act like Buffalo is a small Jackson Hole. Washington Park. It's one block off main street west. Now it's all cemented. Water used to straight from the creek back in those days.
@windbrook they have been using chlorine in the pool for over 20 years now.
A great video as always ! A beautiful old town. The hotel and saloon is amazing, so much history and character ! I love the mural with the horses ! Thanks so much, Joe and Nic.😊💖

#96 is 350,000. Seems too high for that town.
It is really high, but a lot of new people are moving into Wyoming, Montana and Idaho. Its the competition from them to find places like that in Buffalo that is driving the market up out of sight. Prices in these areas have easily doubled and in a lot of cases tripled in the last 5 years.

The next best thing to being there. You guys mosey on....
"No smoking, cussing, spitting or carousing" oh dear, I would be evicted within seconds. 😁 Good video friends. Greg and Jenny New Zealand
Right! :)
What a neat town! If only Wyoming winters were not so cold I would move there in a heartbeat.
Buffalos not to bad.
I’m a simple food kind of guy, nothing fancy for me, so that sounds good!
I like you two!! Just stumbled across you in my 'recommended list' and what a charming and pleasant couple - and vlog - you make. Thanking you from England.🫖🍰
We're glad you're here!
@@JoeandNicsRoadTrip Thanks for having me!!
looks like a nice little town
I was living in Pierre, South Dakota in my mid 20s and I remember walking though the city and beginning to notice the - often common and humble - older houses and their interesting and creative form and details, more beautiful, more interesting and more creative than the modern architect-designed buildings I was trained to appreciate in architecture school; and I began to equally appreciate the pre-modern civic and commercial buildings in the city (I particularly remember the quiet classical serenity of the WW1 memorial building there). I share and appreciate your eye for older houses and buildings - they truly are a superior kind of architecture.
Absolutely. There's nothing more boring than modern suburbia.
Brilliant Program BIG THANKS 👍👍
Thank you!
In most of your vids, I hardly see any people walking in the towns. I live in a small shoreline town, and on any day the town has its residents walking around, enjoying a coffee on the town green, waking their pets, shopping, ...
i noticed that in this video, eerie looking
Hey Joe, love traveling with you! Wondered if you’ve ever considered adding weather information? Certainly an important consideration in visiting or moving somewhere. Thanks for your excellent tours!
I try to, I just always don’t remember. 😬
