Hi Cody, I just saw the movie and I think I completely and utterly agree with you. It's pretty good and I'm not upset or dissatisfied that I saw it but I was just like you; I walked in with modest expectations and left feeling that it was definitely overhyped. My rating: 3.5/5. Good, not great.

I liked all 5. I thought part 4 was the worst but still all good. They all advanced the story. When Dewie asked Sid, "How's Mark?" In part 5, that was a call back to Patrick Dempsey's character in part 3. Detective Mark Kincaid.

It was shocking to see him die. In a way it was his own fault he died because he should've just went on the elevator with everyone else. I like how the director wanted to have Amber as the ghost face killer burnt to a crisp and he probably took that bit from Once Upon a time in Hollywood when her character gets burnt to a crisp at the end and had it planted into this movie. In all fairness, Scream has delivered some inventive kills. Casey was gutted and hung from a tree. Tatum was squashed in garage door. Stu had tv smashed on his head. Cici was thrown from her balcony. Officer had pole slammed through his head. Mickey was gunned down. Stone was stabbed and beaten with frying pan. Tom exploded. Tyson was stabbed, beaten up, and thrown from balcony. Olivia was brutally beaten and gutted. Rebecca was stabbed and thrown from parking garage. Trevor was savagely shot. Jill took defibrillator to the head and was shot.
One of the most important elements to a good death scene is the set pieces, and the Scream franchise really succeeds with its set pieces.

What I Don't Like About The Movie
    * The movie is decent what I did not like about this movie is the new era characters to me was kinda boring like the first movie we actually cared about the characters cause the development they all had even the minor characters this one the characters didn't have much development but Jenna Ortega & Melissa Barrera character Tara & Sam.
    * I also did not like Sidney & Dewey had interaction in person they only talked on the phone like we didn't see them meet up again after all these years and to late cause Dewey end up getting killed neither Judy had scenes with the original 3 and Gale & Dewey only had one scene in it.
    * Sidney should have had a bigger role in the movie due to Sam being Billy's daughter and Billy a huge part of Sidney's life so I would figure she might check on her or maybe back off away from her I mean her father did tried to kill her but Sidney should have been involved more him and Stu inspired all these people dressed up as Ghostface to kill Sidney.
    * I still don't know if I like the idea of Sam being Billy's daughter and I did not really like the hallucinations she was experiencing and seeing figments of a dead Billy I just did not like it I get this movie was trying to be completely different from the past 4 films but I just don't know but Melissa Barrera performance as Sam was good I have more flaws of the movie but I want to get into what I did like.
What I Did Like About The Movie
    * I believe this is Ghostface best movie and Ghostface is very brutal and agressive in this film and very taunting on the phone.
    * The opening scene was so good again Jenna Ortega character sold being scared so well and it was intense I felt sorry for her almost.
    * The final act some people found Richie being Ghostface obvious but not me I didn't expect the boyfriend to be the killer again that's most likely why Sam suppose to be the new Sidney I guess but I like how brutal the final act was.
I have more negative than positive about the movie it's not a bad movie at all it's watchable but I'm mixy when it comes to the movie I watched it twice already I really feel the original trio should have been more in this film you can't have Scream without them well now two of them the movie feels like a Scream movie but sometimes it did not.

I thought the same thing about the empty hospital floor, however I did work in a hospital and there were units that were shit down but still operational for over flow emergencies. Scream 2022 was literally a love letter to Wes Craven and Kev Williamson's original. It was made by fans for fans. The minor things I can nitpick at are not enough to not enjoy the film. The only thing I'll critise is that from the trailer, you know the kills and when the scares are coming. The only time I was on edge in the cinema was Judy/Wes kills, cause I didn't know what or when something was gonna happen. Every other kill was pretty much shown in the trailer. The characters were stronger in this than in Scream 4. All of them ( the main ones ) have a very definite personality. Whereas in Scream 4, none of them (except Kirby) had any form of personality and they were just there to be kills or be the killer. The hospital scene in 2022 did make me laugh, cause I turned to my friend halfway through saying "where's all the nurses and docs?" haha. Richie was my favourite character walking out of the cinema(out of the new characters). I thought he was great, I liked him non-ghostface and I liked him when he turned ghostface. Not my top 3 but definitely near the top.

Speaking of the killer reveals and kills, I actually thought it was really clever in a meta way that who the killers were was so obviously predictable very early on, because that ties into their pathology as toxic fans (they lack creativity and originality and have a nostalgia obsession), therefore of course they would inadvertently place themselves in trope roles for their cover up. The reveal being a slight disappointment is of course the killers' own fault as it is an unfortunate result of the killers' attempt to "course-correct" the franchise.

    • @bayerhead
      @bayerhead Před 2 lety +4

The Richie character even says it was disappointing after the reveal. The dialogue worked really well with being able to speak to the characters and the audience at the same time, especially when he says that he even made you believe it was your sister for a second. I had to laugh out loud at that part because I literately did think that.

I know I’m in the minority for sure but I really did not like this movie. The script definitely had issues as far as plot contrivances and lazy writing, excess suspension of disbelief, the pacing was a little off in the second act, and none of the new characters really had any compelling or even standout traits aside from being carnage Candy. Marco Beltrami not doing the score also really shows. No one really asked for this movie and I don’t feel it added anything to the overall story. The story was also much darker and lacks that comedic touch that the first for sequels were known for. I wish I liked it as much as everyone else does 🤷‍♂️

Sad about dewey of course. But it was bound to happen to one of the legacies.
    Fantastic movie.
    Sam and tara were great.
I liked the almost invisible bond Sam had with her father.
Call back to Billy referring to Sidney's situation in 96 to be like Jodie Foster in the silence of the lambs having flashbacks of HER dead father. I thought that fit very well.
Sam went in complete savage mode on Ritchie as if she was channeling her father's psychotic energy.
Tara was a very strong character.
And I can't stress enough how much I adore Mindy Meeks and her carrying the legacy of her uncle randy.

They went a little overboard on the meta stuff but I enjoyed a lot of it, hid the killers decently well, gave a lot of options and made you think. Kills could have been more creative but they were definitely cool and gory. And they really teased the idea of Stu coming back😩 feel like they blue balled us hard. Overall I give it a 7.8/10. It's because the scenes were much more graphic in this film that people appreciate it. It brought a sense of realism to the franchise which I personally found to lessen my enjoyment in the previous films. This film felt much more "real" to me and that is when slasher films can be really scary. I loved seeing ghostface wear a vest when he got shot and all the little details like that. They also combined this really well with the meta angle they were going for. The first thing I said to my girlfriend after watching it was this was everything Matrix 4 wanted to be and more. She immediately goes looking for Ghostface once Dewey is killed. She is armed. And I actually love how Sid and Gale buddy up in this one. Whilst their individual character archs are very simple, having them together works really well. They have such a history, and both are closely tied with Dewey. It was nice to see Sid and Gale kicking some @ss together. The characters are still true to what we know them as. They just had a shorter period of time to showcase themselves.

However for everything that doesn't work quite as well, there was five things that i really liked. This is one of several references to Wes Craven's A Nightmare on Elm Street in the Scream films, including the location of the Prescott house in the original, as well as Wes Craven's famous cameo as school janitor Fred, who wears a very familiar sweater.

Sometimes there would be nobody in sight and you would have to flag someone down. I'd be going out for my nightly walk in the Halls and couldn't find a single person I had to push a button to ring somebody in and they would sometimes have to come from another floor, if it wasn't a scheduled time for a nurse to be in your room the floor could be empty and sometimes smaller hospitals only have one nurse working in entire floor... Just speaking from experience and the fact that woodsboro is presented as a small town I can totally see that. Anyways good review man congratulations on 70k

Loved it the twist at the end who the killer was. The Nostalgia with certain flash backs from the first scream 8.5 /10

I've always been a diehard Scream fan. Its by far my favorite franchise. With that being said, Scream 5 is my least favorite

EASILY the worst one. I love all the other movies. This felt…off. I’m pretty sure it was just missing Wes Craven. Too modern I guess

Huge let down for me, was pretty decent til the finale. Like how many times are we gonna see a re enacted original ending. Wasn’t a fan of the new Halloween but atleast they tried to be a little different. Scream 4 re enacted the original ending better imo lol.

I was so happy when the Ghostface identity/identities were revealed because I was spot on for the first time (saw scream so long ago I dont remember who I guessed l, got 2 wrong, guessed 3 right at first but changed my mind later on in the movie, and got one right in 4). Overall it's definitely not as good as my favorite (the original), but way better than 3 (my least favorite), and I'd put it in third place behind Scream 4 but ahead of Scream 2. Plus the characters were some of the best since the original in my opinion. I will also say that the actual look of the movie looks way better than the shitty 2000s dark-saturated look of 4. Definitely worth the 8 bucks for the ticket.

Interesting the little quick screen shot of that CZcams playlist in the movie hinted at Kirby being alive.. Well she is. she's listed on imdb for scream 6

I agree with you on the kills being just the same and am also confused about how people saw them more carnage.

My biggest problem with the movie is that Dewey shoots Ghost like three times point blank in the hospital. It would have been Amber and it's never explained wtf that was all about. Did I miss an explanation for her not actually being shot?
Overall, I had a blast and enjoyed this movie as a casual Scream fan.

She showed the bullet proof vest while killing Dewey.

speaking of your hospital at 10:19, Judy Hicks said a few scenes before that they were moving her to a "private floor" so that is more than likely the reasoning on why there is no one on that floor.

My one beef with this movie was that this 4 foot tall chick killed Dewey and lifted him off the ground lol and the fan stuff at the end had me having Dexter thoughts lmfao
