    I noticed that it appears you used 3/4" crushed rock versus round rock for this install. Is that because the grass/sod will not root well into the larger voids provided by larger round rock? Also, why were catch basins not needed for this install? I assume the two 4" HO pipes and three 3" pipes provided enough drainage.
    I recently installed a FD using the FDM high octane pipe, non woven geotextile fabric and 2" round rock and have had fantastic results...got tired of failed systems using inferior products and techniques. FDM has great products and very good install tutorials!

    Since Dirt haul away is a large component to the business, would you be able to discuss how you handle the dirt after it is hauled away? Dump at your facility, dirt dump reception facility, dirt exchange, etc...?

    • @FRENCHDRAINMAN
      @FRENCHDRAINMAN  Před 8 měsíci +4

      Man, I can make a whole video on this. I probably should. I never sold fill dirt, I've never been that fortunate. It always comes at an expense to me to haul it away. Free filter wanted signs are something that we've always looked out for. I caution using somebody's yard to dump in without preparing them properly. You cannot back on their concrete driveway. You'll break the apron with all that heavy fill dirt. And it'll end up costing you money. I paid to dump it in multiple locations for most of my career. Once in a while, you'll get a couple of locations in the areas of work where you can dump.

      I’ve always said dirt is kind of like furniture. There’s plenty around when you don’t need it but when you’re looking to get rid of some nobody wants it

    Do you have to have a sprinkler system in order to stop the grass turning brown above the drain? How do you keep that thin layer of turf green?

    • @FRENCHDRAINMAN
      @FRENCHDRAINMAN  Před 4 měsíci +1

      If you do not have an automatic sprinkler system, you will have to put more topsoil and sand mixed underneath your grass.

    I assume the upper side trenches each taper down towards the trench to the storm drain and then the trench to the storm drain also tapers downward.

    As always thank you Robert! I need a similar system. If the city doesn’t let me (or a contractor) core into the sewer, how would you get the water into the sewer? Pop up drains next to sewer?

    • @FRENCHDRAINMAN
      @FRENCHDRAINMAN  Před 6 měsíci

      Well......there are no storm drain police. Just saying 🤫
      Now, if it is a sewer drain, stay clean. Bid fine.

    So the 3” probably won’t move much water? Maybe some surface water.. it’s there to prevent roots and cheaper then stone. That’s more of a question then a statement. Is it a valid concern that the white pipe isn’t as strong as the blue and could potentially get crushed if equipment drives over it or am I overthinking it? Thanks and great video as always.

      When you travel far and can’t carry all the stone you need for a really big job, this is an ideal way to build a French drain system. But most of the time, we’re building them like this:

    Hi FDM. Do you recommend burrito wrapping with fabric for interior basement French drain? Planning on using high octane.

    • @FRENCHDRAINMAN
      @FRENCHDRAINMAN  Před 7 měsíci

      I have mixed feelings on that. I perfer to not go below the footer and make the trench WIDER with more stone most of the time. If it's sand or gravel subsoil, I would use fabric.

    36:50 - lay down the turf mats?
    Maybe SlatTrax would have been a better fit there for some of the parts? Unfortunately, I cant be sure, but maybe!

      Dirt gets stuck in the mats where they bend. It's a cool concept, tho.

    Do you use end caps to start a French drain or yard system and then end plugs to terminate a French drain pipe? As well do you use silicone to secure end plugs?

      I've seen you use these white end caps on a catch basin as well to start a yard drain system, but I'm from Canada and on the French Drain Man Canada site I don't see that they carry these in stock. They're black and look different. Can you please clarify if you have these in stock in Canada? Thank you. @@FRENCHDRAINMAN

    Interesting 🤔 French drain design.
    Aggregate rock is not cheap. It is very labor intensive to install.
    Filter fabric keeps the soil from clogging the pipe and helps to maintain the structure of the water collection trench.
    The air space in the trench is very important to allow excess water to be collected and by capillary action to flow into the slotted corrugated pipe and be directed away. Air space also discourages root growth.
    The air space in the French drain is achieved by the 1.5” aggregate rock. The rock functions like pores in the skin to allow pockets of air and pathways for water to flow.
    Digging the trench deeper, lining it with filter fabric, and filling it with 4” and 3” pipe enables the trench space to use smaller aggregate rock size and overall less rock material.

      Hey Robert, You’ve probably answered this question before, but for some odd reason I can’t find the answer so my apologies for asking again. For the type of trench that holds (2) 4” perforated pipes at the bottom and (3) 3” perforated pipes on top, how wide and deep do you dig the trench? Thanks!

    What happened to your rule of using large diameter round rock in these systems? You went away from using that aggregate in recent videos, but never addressed why.
    Previously, you would have warned against using this small diameter gravel/pea stone.
