  • It’s not easy owning a classic car in the boroughs of New York City. Owners must deal with rust, potholes, pedestrians, and, of course, a host of psychotic cabbies. However, despite these hazards, New York has some of the greatest muscle cars ever to roll on tarmac. Meet Eddie, a Queens native and the owner of the 1972 “AY OOH” Oldsmobile Cutlass, a tough-as-nails street brute that cut its teeth running light-to-light street races in Queens.

How many of us Oldsmobile guys out there? The car company that started General Motors, and I'm a Ford guy, but I do love an Oldsmobile, they are well built, and have near perfection looks.

Got a 1968 4-4-2. I was searching for parts for my 86 Foxbody GT, and came across this car, $4500, turn key and go. Seller built it the way i would have done (variable duration lifters, switch pitch torque converter, 2.7 turn steering box, etc) and while I had been accumulating parts for years, I sure couldn't have built even a Cutlass S for that price!
It has 243,000 miles and looks it, but I go to a lot of shows and hear people comment they see few 4-4-2's. Mostly GTOs and Chevelles, when it comes to an A body.

Many people have garages in NYC. There are classics, muscle cars (old and new) and race cars hidden all over the city. You take the car out and drive it, then put it away.

If you have a New York plate on it i reckon there are less people that will fuck with your car. If you're from out of town though that might be a different story. At least from what ive heard and i know quite a few people in New York both from the city and from the outskirts

It always amazes me to see and hear the cars and stories about street racing coming out of N.Y. Because you get this thought in your head of congestion and traffic and wonder how. Then you see gems like this and here the stories and like Mike said you can talk and listen for HOURS. I remember as a kid when I first got into cars and saw my first SuperBee. It was an original HEMI car and it was a beast. And the guy who bought it new did so to go street racing in the Bronx. And hearing that starting my fascination with the mystery of street racing in N.Y.

A good time was finding a quiet neighborhood or city block and seeing how many car alarms we could set off. God I miss that car but I really wanna make my own. A supercharged coyote with 6 speed in a 00-04 mustang. Sapphire blue or eruption green on ccw chrome wheels. That’s my pick.

This is loaded with things that would normally make me cringe and ask WTH?! But somehow in that perfect New York way that I will never really understand, the car says it all.... for the owner, the city, the history........ This time everything that is wrong about a car to an inlander is absolutely a perfect package. That's one bad ass wonderful car.........
