- Here's an updated review of my Guild D55 Acoustic which was built in the New Hartford Factory.
Here's a video of Rich Robinson playing this guitar on the Jimmy Kimmell Show

Hey brother man, Paul, what a difference in sound quality. I mean it was just fantastic. Thanks for the shout-out, as always, my friend. That Guild sounds like custom crafted dreamboat. I'm surprised he sold it, but since he did do it, I'm pleased it was you he chose to buy it. Beautiful playing, sir. I'm sure he knows your love of guitars and very well knew you'd care for it like a newborn, brother man 👍
Bought a D55 in 2020 right after covid hit. Great guitar, exquisite sound.
Beautiful guitar and a sound of their own. Great guitars.
I agree. Guild holds its own against all of the Big 3 brands. I now own 5 different models and love them all
Thanks for watching!
I bought a D40 and a D55 in about 1992. The 40 fun to play the 55 in a league of its own.
@@NotTelling51 if you get a chance, check out my D20 all mahogany review. Man, I love that guitar 🎸
The Guild is sounding good ,,, as do most. I think the 70`s and 80`s were the Hay Day for Guild guitars as alot of artist were playing them , if not them it was Ovation. Now they do have their own sound which can run with any Martin guitar.
Congrats on the new audio equipment ,,, Ole Randy know his stuff ! But one thing about it is they are addicting as guitars LOL
Enjoy the you new "Toys" !!
You're right, Guild has a sound that sounds like it came right out of 1935. Would love to have one
Lest anyone be confused, Guild guitars are now made in California. I don't have a D-55 (wish I did). But I do have both a CA made D-20 and D-40 Traditional, as well as some older Guilds which are impossible to date due to the many gaps in historic Guild serial numbers. Somehow the signature Guild sound has persisted through the ownership, and geographic changes.
I have a Starfire 6 built in the 60s with the same looking neck headstock inlays. Mini humbuckers and i love the way the neck looks and feels. Very nice build quality and still plays really nice. Does need some fret work but after all this time it is very enjoyable. Yours is beautiful and a lovely sound.
Do you think the Cordoba Guilds are the same quality as the New Hartford ones? The brand has a long history of disconnects, being moved from state to state and coast to coast multiple times. I can't imagine many of the staff from there wanted to move to Oxnard when the brand was acquired yet again. Maybe they should have done what the Kalamazoo people did. It's also kind of weird that they have a "Westerly collection" named after their old Rhode Island location, but actually made in China.
Although I haven’t played one, the reviews I’ve seen of the Cordoba era seem excellent. And although very few of the staff followed, the did, for a few years, have Ren Ferguson.
I actually just got a MIC Westerly F-250 which I’ll be reviewing soon. It’s not USA sound quality, but for the price, it’s pretty great 👍
Guild was started by Epiphone luthiers who didn't want to move to Kalamazoo after the Gibson acquisition, so that's why they didn't do it that way (and that's why it is called "Guild"). In the end it was always a pretty small operation, and those tend to get bought out if they don't fail. Fortunately for Guild, the brand has always had enough equity to be attractive to reputable purchasers who have (for the most part) maintained quality in production. Unfortunately for Guild, they've never been successful enough to sustain much more success than that.
Yamaha owns them now and has very deep pockets, plus they seem to view Guild as their entre into the Made in USA product category. So hopefully we'll get some good investment, including the return of Made in USA electrics plus maintenance of the legendary acoustics.
@@kindredwinecoff yes, I discuss this history in my Epiphone Excellente vs Guild D55 video
@@paulgeorgia8013 Excellent. I have that video next in my queue. I've just discovered your channel, and am a big Guild fan. Nice work!
Paul, love new audio quality, but the narrow screen is a downgrade, I loved seeing a lot of your room and seeing other guitars.
Hey!
I know, I’m still learning the editing process, didn’t know it was going to squash the width
I promise to fix. Thanks for watching!! ❤️🙏
@@paulgeorgia8013 No need to promise anything. :)
Highly recommend trying out a free application called DaVinci Resolve, it's just great.
Refresh my memory... what's the song? I know it's iconic, but I'm drawing a blank. 🙄
She Talks to Angels
here's the main point, the point youve missed. Its the guitar we wanted to listen to not soley your opine. A shame for Guild is much better than you've portrayed
WHEN GUILD STOPPED MAKING AMERICAN GUILDS THE GUITARS WENT TO CRAP, LIKE THE JUMBO 250 I BOUGHT WAS TOTAL CRAP, I DONT KNOW IF THE GUITARS IN CALIFORNIA ARE ANY BETTER
Maybe you were unlucky. Before I go on, I need to say that I've owned several USA Guilds. A few months ago, out of curiosity I bought a secondhand Guild GAD-50 from ebay to find out for myself about the Chinese-built versions. Mine's an early one, built in the last days of Fender ownership. It's a beauty - solid rosewood back and rims, solid spruce top, wood binding to the body, ebony bridge pins, a lovely marquetry strip joining the back halves, nice small diamond and ellipse position markers, onboard amplification, and Grover Rotomatic sealed tuners.
This guitar is up there with the best soundwise. I'm a bluegrass flatpicker - this guitar's virbrations hit my chest when playing; there's real punch and volume to it, and the sound is exactly what a good dreadnought should be (I've owned over 20, mostly Martin and Guild), I didn't care for the pickguard, so I got a traditional shaped version from Guild. For $640, this guitar's unbelievable value. It's likely that I'll keep it.
I just purchased a Guild D55 for $2K. Serial#- 000024. Is this a good deal?
Sounds like a great deal! Congratulations!
I should say so. They list for $4000+ in 2023.
Yeah...I'm calling BS on this. If you seriously bought a D55 for $2k and are asking if that was a good deal, you are either BSing or else you should just stick to old Harmony guitars.
