    Dude, thank you! Clogged cats are not a myth. I've been chasing down a major loss of power on my e36 325i. I ripped off the exhaust and there she was. That midrange BMW torque. I was about to replace the clutch because I thought it could be slipping...

    Thank you. I have had this problem for 3 weeks now and there is a sound coming out of the catalytic converter but one mechanic had said I had an engine knock. Glad to have watched this video

    When you remove the oxygen sensors, do you leave them electrically plugged in on the test ride?

      depends on what kind if o2
      if its a heated core unplug it and remove it, and full honesty this is a terrible way to test for a clogged cat, you shouldn't let hot toxic fumes out in the engine bay they are a significant carcinogen all thats going right into the cabin where your sitting that is why states have laws that prevent people from having exhaust that can enter the cabin that and it could cause issues with wiring if you have it right next to the o2 considering that it will be the upstream youd remove, if you do go this route remove it some of the cores can get hot enough to melt through wires so best safe than sorry not all heated cores are equal some require ground to the exhaust what you should do is take your car to a mechanic and do an exhaust gas pressure test for the upstream sensor this test will tell a good mechanic that there's too much pressure buildup before the cat which will cause the aforementioned issues

    Thanks for the tip, exact same car but it drives fine until I attempt to accelerate quickly then the motor boggs down and appears to enter like a safe mode .. which resets with a restart of the motor and it drives normal again. Drives fine as long as you baby it, any heavy acceleration and it does the boggs down again.... Thoughts? Thanks

    this happen to me, oddly enough I replace vanos seals on 330ci and fuel injectors and it started working again. smooth power and engine doesn't rough idle anymore. just in case someone needs this info.

      Lucky Luke if you experience shaking that means your 02s are plugged into the wrong harness so switch them up on the engine bay

    Jason can you make a video on how to replace the vacuum hoses on the M54 engine? My hoses are cracked and want to DIY but they are behind the engine the one that is cracked.

    Hi,
    My 2006 X5 E53 3.0i runs sluggish and the "After" O2 sensor needs replacing. I went to a mechanic but he dismissed the idea of the sluggishness being related to the O2 sensor. I'd appreciate if you could advise and identify any other areas that might need attention. The truck has 200k kms on it. Thanks.

    you mentioned vanos seals. I have an Opel Zafira - and experience sluggishness between 2 and 3 RPMs. My cat was busted replaced it, but I don't feel like I've addressed the 'real problem'. this video is super interesting to me....but I've never heard of the vanos seals issue.

I'm looking to get another daily driver but I honestly don't know if I want to find another 03-05 325xi or 07-08 g35x.. Any suggestions or comments will help.

    Can a throttle vacuum leak be a reason also? This power loss literally just happened to me but ive had a code for a vacuum leak for like a month bcs im saving up money to just re do my entire lines and hoses but i just experienced severe power loss. Please tell me this cant be transmission related also? Thanks man youre very helpful in your videos.

    Good advice for sure. My problem 2012 Chevy Cruze occasionally loses power and will not accelerate, then works fine again for a few weeks. This happens over and over again. I hear nothing loose or rattling in the catalytic converter. Could there be something temporarily clogging blocking the exhaust flow. Sometimes I will get a catalytic converter inefficiency code. How can I further troubleshoot this problem?

    What might cause my car to act this way when starting the engine cold and it being 10-15 degrees outside? Pedal to the floor, car seems to be struggling to get up to speed of 30-50. The weird thing is that once the engine warms up the problem goes away

      I wouldn't worry about that. Depends on the car and oil being used. If it is an E46 M3, these should especially *never* be attempted to drive hard from cold as the 10w/60 oil takes a while to reach a decent viscosity level that will properly protect the rod bearings. Best thing to do on a cold start is let it idle for around a minute (or more if possible). This will allow the oil to heat up a bit and circulate the critical engine components (pistons/rings/rods/bearings/crank, etc). You will only flood the chambers by flooring it at cold and prematurely wear the engine internals. A lot of cars, and all E46 M3's that live in a coldish climate will show some kind of low power symptoms from a cold start. If you have a bad idle though, that is different and will need further investigating. Bad idle can range from a dirty MAF sensor, ICV, O2 sensors, clogged injectors, to a vaccum leak. Apart from the MAF on an M3, those would normally be accompanied by a dashboard EML though.

      It's a saftey feature so you won't destroy the engine. Just like in the s54 on the tach they have the yellow shift lights then when it warms up it's able to redline. Same concept

      I have that issue, i change the transmission oil and filter, and everything back to normal so you can try that it won’t hurt.

    Hi Shop Life...I own a 2004 350z automatic. Couple days ago, getting on the freeway, I pushed the accelerator all the way to the floor to gain speed. Usually, the car will go into a lower gear to gain more speed, like a overdrive feeling! Nope! I then removed the throttle body off, cleaned the MAF sensor too. Still still slow slow instant response. The car will go....kind of cruising mode to gain speed. After that went to AutoZone to buy a new MAF sensor....that didn't work either! And btw...no check Engine light at all! What to do? Can you help??

    Symptoms....at first small studder while driving , and randomly rough or uneven idle at stop lights.. possible solution..... If possible pull the clip off the injectors one by one. Plugging them back in as you go. If it gets worse when you unplug one plug it back in. I found on my Ford focus that when I unplugged one nothing changed engine ran the same.. The injector was not working anymore . I am going to replace today.
    Update. Ended up being coil pack

    Hey there,
    I have a 1997 M3 which looses all electrical power while driving. I pull over and disconnect the battery for a couple minutes then reconnect it and everything is fine again. Usually happens when I am going fast. Any advice will be sincerely appreciated.

    Hey Jason, I replaced my downstream 02 sensor and cleared the pending code P013E but the check engine light comes back after driving 15 miles. The OBD II say delayed response- rich to lean bank sensor 2 after replacing Bosch 02 sensor. The car drive great but the check engine will not cleared system. What do you recommend?

    I drive an 04 tiburon gt v6. Out of nowhere it started driving like ass. Like the acceleration isn't really there. And the rpms stop going up at around 3700-4000 rpm. I'm not getting any lights. I can get it up to speed as long as I shift early but it's taking forever to get up to 50-60 mph and I really dont wanna keep driving it like this. :/ any tips before I run it to the shop?

    What if Im taking off from 1st gear an press the gass and as you take your foot off the gass the car bucks and isnt a smooth transition to dump the clutch to engage 2nd any recomendations ?
    Ive just brought a new inlet manifold
    reseal kit for my injectors
    Air intake solinoid sensor
    Unplugged maf sensor to see if any diffrent
    Took off cleaned throttle and cleaned
    Full service with new fule filter and fule cleaner and cam postion sensor 😅 im running out of ideas and its starting to cost quite a bit 😂 any help would be great

    I have no stutter, but I measured my e46 330i and I got 175wHP, and I measured my 0-62 on high 8s... do you have any idea what it might be? I might try the O2 sensors thing tho...

    Wow nice video. I never thought about the vanos seal will cause a lost of power. I do have a tank vent vavle code. I can't figure out what it could be. I change the vavle no change..beside the vanos seal and the thank vent vavle. What other issue I should look at

    hey jason i,ve hit you up on IG regarding my 06 X5 transmission fluid change and all that. but now all of a sudden turned it on, on Sunday and it started sputtering and it wouldn't go past 5 mph from dead stop then it gets going but while sputtering down the road also it sputters while sitting idle. service engine soon light also came on.

    I check catalytic converters with a laser temp gun. Run the vehicle til the engine is good and normal temp, then measure exhaust tubing temp before, at, and after the cats. A huge variance will tell you what's going on, and where. My Crown Vic has 4 of these damn things.. I didn't know the very back 2 'silencers', which look like glasspacks, were actually catalytic converters.

    I have a 2007 Lexus IS 250 manual , I have it straight piped but it does the same thing when sometimes I go full throttle, it seems like the car worked better when I re fill it with fuel. Do you think it’s the fuel pump?

    Sometimes you can hear and feel the exhaust blowing back through the intake .. when it gets really bad the car would go in to fail safe mode .. very common in the e46 models

    Is there such a thing as retrofitting heated seats? My seats are fully electric with memory position but doesn’t have the heating function

    I have a e90 330xi and when in neutral it has a rough idle tht bounces up and down between 1 and 2 also when I’m going up hill or down slow the car stalls not to make it any worse I have my dash lit up like a Christmas tree please help 🙏😭?

    2004 E46 goes into like a limp mode when I try to go up speed and then I shut it off turn the car back on and it goes back to normal but if I go up to 55 or 60 it goes back to a limp mode what can be the cause of it.

    when I floor the car there is a burbling sound when changing gear. its followed by more burble and if I push the car a bit more it gives me misfire on cylinder 1. My car is 325i E90, straight piped.

    wath could it be if im in 2nd gear at 4k rpm all good but then when i change to 3rd i get power loss like the car wont go past 1-2k rpms with my foot down wath could the problem be?

    i just bought a Pre-owned 2005 Audi A6 Quattro. the Car comes to a gradual halt when in motion. i usually have to turn it off and back on again before normal drive is restored. I have changed the Fuel Pump, Four bad Coils, Fuel Filters, Two bad Plugs. Please what should i do to have this resolved or what can you narrow it down to? Any assistance would be welcomed- I have spent a lot on guess works mechanics

    Hey Jason,I have a question/video idea. I own a 2004 330i zhp. I picked it up about a year ago. I used your video to help me change the oil filter housing gasket. I saw oil on the engine, but I thought it would just evaporate as I used the car. Occasionally I get a bad smell from the ac/heat vents. Could it be the oil on the engine? If so what is the best way to clean it. Thanks for your help, Paul

I shut engine off and then runs good for a while and then does it again ...any ideas...I put alotnof stuff new...throttle body, tune up ...new boots vacuum lines....I 5hink it could be either DME or Cat converters...had diesel in gas before all of this....any help, thx

    @shoplifetv car idles bad and no check engine light, done camshafts sensor intake side . Spark plug and the wiring forgot what you call it the thing that goes in the spark plug.
    Cleaned idle control valve and changed the boot around the air filter box .
    I would really appreciate it if you could just say your opinion to where to look more ?
    M54 engine E39 530i 2001 .

    Help me. I have e46 328 got the issue. I already change to new MAF sensor and clean up the ICV until the valve can freely to move, and the Hose to the intake doesnt have any hole. But still got the same issue, my idle sometime bouncing for a while when i turn on the AC. But when the AC shut off, it will again be bounce for a while and then the idle will be okay. Then sometime my car will lost the power if i want to accelerate (feels like the engine choking/get sucked). Please somebody help me. I already blow my mind right now. Or is it my car need 1jz for the heart of this car.

    Hey guys! Would this clogged catalytic converter be paired with lots of gray smoke when i try to force the engine?
    It runs normally if i accelerate nice and slow, but the engine starts vibrating if i try to go hard - i get gray smoke and it stalls if i keep insisting...

    My 80 Datsun 720 pick up dogs hard when I put the pedal down hard trying to shift through the gears, then stalls over and over again, then it fixes itself, then it starts all over again when I pedal down hard. I change the fuel filter and been tinkering with the accelerator on the carb. I'm gonna ck the coil now :(

    Have you encountered a battery drain happening every couple of days on any e46? Had this problem last winter and replace the FSR and got a new battery seemed to fix the issue, but it has came back. If i don't drive the car for a a day or two, the battery is dead the following day. Also I notice that my heating is not working (not sure if its related or not), the reason I mention this is because during Spring/Summer/Fall the problem is gone. Any suggestions? I love my car but this is so freakin' frustrating.

    I have an e46 m3. Issues I had p0012 and p0014 along with multiple misfire codes. car runs like a cammed muscle car, surging bogging really crappy . no power until 4500 rpm and then the car feels like it has 400 horsepower. I bought a beisan solenoid and sealing plate gasket kit and replace both of these. The car still drives exactly the same, terribly. One thing to note is that the p0014 for exhaust advanced timing has gone away and only the p0012 intake retarded and misfires stay. Can you please offer some advice ? I've spent so much money on this car trying to fix it I am getting really depressed. Thanks @ShopLifeTV

    I have an issue with a 2012 kia soul. Loses power (40 mph)..has happened 2 times in the last 2 weeks. If turn it off and let it sit appears to run fine with good power. No codes. Thought maybe a cat issue at first but if you have a cat issue shouldn't you have it all the time once you experienceit the first time?

    It sounds stupid but the parking lights in my vehicle won't cut off after shutting off the vehicle. I was told that the grommet is worn out in the brake pedal and that has something to do with the power loss with the engine. It all just started happening at the same time. Could you corroborate this hypothesis. I have a hyundai sonata 2012 limited

    I saw your videos about bmw cars,
    I have a big problem with my E46 BMW 316i automatic transmission engine n42b18a.
    The car turns off when it is on minimum rmp of engine. (600-700rpm)
    I have controlled sensors, MAF, MAP, air tubes, throttle sensor, I put a new chain, controlled ecentic sharf valvetronic, I changed electromotor of valvetronic and oil of engine is new. Everything works ok.
    The problem is not solved yet.
    When I check for errors on pc, shows only o2 sensor with error.
    When I unplug the cable of valvetronic the problem fixes, but the car has so reduced power.
    What I can do? Do you have any idea?

    I had a bad ccv and maf sensor. I replaced the maf sensor but i didnt do the ccv. Since i did maf sensor, the car shuts off at low rpms. I have a 03 330i. Is there any suggestion on this issue? Please respond if youre able too. Idk if fixing the ccv will fix this.

    Hi my BMW 318I 2004 E46 idles fine drives fine sounds fine Drives like a GEM BUT... As Im driving the engine goes into a limp mode doesnt go over 1000rpm's and doesnt go over 20kph. Then after a few seconds goes fine again. It does it sporadically it will do it every few seconds then wont do it for a few Ks Ive had 4 garages my icarsoft BMW scanner and a foxtell 301 and noone has found codes NO CODES at all. So Driving along fine cuts out to 1000rpm and 20kph doesnt stop or stall then it can take 2 seconds to 30 seconds to kick back into normal operation. COuld this be the catalytic convertors? Hope you still view this and can help with some advice. Thanks Ron @ Kiwi Exotics.

    I’m having this problem. No check engine light but it turns off coming to a stop or slowing but now while driving. Changed the camp shaft & exhaust sensors but still having the problem.

    loss of power and misfires on bank 2 at high rpm/limited to 5k.. all general maintenance seals replaced and the fuel trims steady at idle along with 02 voltages although bank 1 post cat is .7 steady and bank 2 is between .58 and.7 volts fluctuating? I have tried moving around bank specific coils/sparks with no change, only misfires under high load cylinders 4 5 6.. Id say blocked cat for bank 2 header 😒

    Man plz answer my question. i bought 2.5 2003 automatic 2 weeks ago. 0-100 kmph is 11 seconda shown on obd2. its terrible. today we tested fuel pressure and it was 3.150 bars when engine was running at idle. can it be the reason ?

    I have severe lose of power in my BMW 740, 2006. While scan with Computer it gave error for O2 sensors before catalyst converter. Any suggestion is highly appreciated
