Randy is such a cool dude, and you'd never know he had this personality just following him on the field. Nobody nastier on the mound than Randy in his day.

Grew up a die-hard Mariners fan... absolutely loved Randy Johnson when I was a kid. Might love him even more now. His interviews with Dan are just the best, and hearing about his passion for photography recently was really awesome... he takes some amazing shots. Just a super interesting guy.

I love this. It’s so wonderful to see how Randy Johnson is a warm and interesting person. He was so fiercely intense on the ballfield. I could’ve never imagined him having a fun and playful conversation. Thanks Dan, for showing me Randy Johnson’s humanity.

Randy walking in from the bullpen in the 10th inning of game 5 in 95. Welcome to the jungle playing. The kingdom was shaking. Incredible. Second row behind the M’s dugout. Owners were in front of us. Then Edgar hit the double. Junior scores. Chaos. Having been present for that I realized I’ve lived a complete life. Everything has been a bonus after that....

Long time Mariners fan, as in since day one. Those days of Randy, Jr, Bruhner, Edgar, Moyer and Lou Piniella were magical. Sadly, they couldn't get it done. Randy was such a beast! Those were halcyon days!

I can't argue with you. Steve Carlton was my hero growing up, and one of the greats, but he didn't have quite the "stuff" that RJ had. I imagine the old timers might make a case for Sandy Koufax. Wish I could have seen him play, but that was before my time.

I had a conversation with him on the phone once decades ago...talking music... i wasn't aware it was him i was talking to...at the end he said if I'd like him to send me a signed card and i told him it wasn't necessary... after the call finished the guy who gave me the phone to talk to him started laughing... he knew who it was since he was a good customer of his... he just handed me the phone ... i told him he offered me a card and i declined... that set him off in hysterics ... he said he had never offered him one in all the time he had been doing business with him... btw... our conversation was about beatles bootleg cds that were just starting to happen big time

Definitely agree that he's a little underrated. Having watched baseball from the mid-90s on, he's the most intimidating pitcher I ever saw. Plus, was dominant in Arizona's championship run and I think he's still the oldest pitcher to throw a perfect game.

Randy Johnson was so great. I think his career gets a little lost today from playing on the West Coast and not pitching for either the Dodgers or Giants for any real duration. As the ace for the Seattle Mariners and the Arizona Diamondbacks when he played, he never got the full credit he deserved. Even when winning 3 games in the 2001 World Series against the favored Yankees, Curt Schilling got more credit than Johnson and was given a co-MVP award that should have gone just to the "Big Unit." I'm a geezer who grew up watching the likes of Ford, Koufax, Spahn, Marichal, Gibson and saw Nolan Ryan in 1969 at Dodger Stadium with the Mets come in late in the game and throw 100+ mph white lines for a couple of innings against over-matched Dodgers hitters. There are only two pitchers who rival Johnson in my lifetime of watching- Sandy Koufax and Steve Carlton. Thanks for the great segment!! Glad to see Randy in top form, even if coming off the surgery. The man deserves all the kudos.

This reminds me of my uncle who is tall and kinda looks like randy, we would not go into certain areas of the house, and we were terrified of him, because of the rules, and he seemed so mean. Then I got older, he had grandkids and we talked for hours and he’s such a cool guy lol.
