  • The Conness Lakes are glacial lakes, fed by one of the largest glaciers in the Sierra Nevada mountain range.
Filmed during the summer of 2019, the hike begins at Saddlebag Lake, climbing approximately 700 feet in elevation to the Conness Lakes. Light scrambling required. Total trip distance at 7.5 miles.
    Enjoy!

Great & beautiful hike. I don't know why I burned out on the Sierra decades ago but you're helping me get back into them. I do miss them. God bless you two forever

Beautiful location, and video. I was at Saddlebag Lake at the beginning of October...very nice in the off season, with less crowds.
You can hike both sides of Saddlebag Lake to get to Conness Lakes. The side you hiked is the rocky side; the opposite side of the lake is absolutely flat and is more like a Jeep trail...if you have someone older in your hiking group (or just plain unfit), this is an easier hike in.👍
I know everyone has a different opinion on this, but I really like your videos without the musical scoring. In the past the music hid the sounds of nature. Nature is an visual and audio experience...in your videos when I hear those High Sierra birds singing, and the rushing streams, it really pulls me into the video, and I feel I am there. The sounds of nature...there is no more beautiful soundtrack than that, eh?😉
By the way, how do you get your cameras to pull focus automatically? (Or are you using a portable slider rail?)
    Love your videos...keep ‘em coming!👍

Great vid. Thanks and subbed. I hiked up to Greenstone Lake a few days ago. Awesome. I took the trail on the east side of Saddlebag Lake, having heard that the west side was a mile of pure scree, very hard on the ankles although a mile shorter distance. What was your take on that stretch of trail? I wonder if the concerns are overblown. Thanks.

Really enjoyed the trail and would hike the section again. The scree was no problem.

Very cool video, like always! Awesome people like Jim make an adventure even more special. Even though on the West Side of the Sierra, I heavily recommend exploring the South Fork San Joaquin/Lake Florence/Lake Thomas Edison area. The area is full of history beginning in the 1920's with the Big Creek Project, which is still fully functional to this very day. Enjoy the Holidays!!!

Very nice vid. FYI, if you want to sound like a local, the lakes/glacier/peak is pronounced "kuh-NESS" not "KAHN-ess". It's named for a civil rights pioneer, John Conness.
