The air intake is for the burner air supply, it is isolated from the air circulating inside the van so no issue. That said any device that uses a naked flame could develop a fault and so carbon monoxide detectors are a must.
Hi Mel another great vlog. When it comes time to connect the fuel lines up to your tank make an inspection hatch above the fuel pump/level sender that way you wont have to drop the fuel tank. I did this for my sprinter and it made life so much easier to be able to change the pump and connect up my diesel heater directly to the tank. Stay safe mate.
Those heaters are brilliant bits of kit. Only two things that I have noticed is to run them on full for half hour every now and then to keep them clean inside. The over thing is the LEDs become dull in the control panel. I fitted a power switch to mine so that I can keep it turned off when not in use. I also fitted a GSM Relay to mine so that I can turn it on and off by text message which is great on a cold day when you are out walking, nice and warm when you get back to the van.

Hi Mel, just looking at the installation of your diesel heater, have you thought about the exhaust fumes they may be sucked into your intake as the exhaust is just below your air intake
The combustion intake should be way off some other direction. When the unit starts and is smoky, that smoky air will become part of the intake combustion air ........ making it too rich... I point my intake air filter up and as far away as possible from the exhaust
If you look at the video he's angled the exhaust slightly so the plume is outside the bodywork & the inlet is inside. I feel the inlet should be open at the bottom so when it does get sprayed there's a maximum chance for the water to drain out again.
Hi Mel, great video, I have installed the same heater, thing is it is getting very hot where the ducting exits the heater, I do have a right hand elbow directly attached to the heater, maybe i need to remove it and try to have the ducting going out at less of an angle, any thoughts??
The air inlet under the van is for the combustion chamber only, it doesn’t go into the van. The air in the van is drawn over the heat exchanger from the back of the unit so the two never mix, perfectly safe. I would definitely insulate between the outlet pipe and the water tank though!
@@johnrimmer1228 Yes John we know that. But you still shouldn't put the inlet within 200mm of the exhaust if you follow a manual (like the eberspacher one). 🤣
Nice work but the heater will be taking in exhaust fumes , and not pure oxygen, may shorten life span of heater , with a higher build up of carbon , I’ve got mine polar opposite to stop this

Yeah we both do CZcams full time and help others at the workshop off camera. It’ll take as long as it takes when you’re self employed and juggle multiple full time demands.
doesnt the altitude setting trickle fuel the heater so it only uses a minimum amount.?.i sold mine before i got chance to use it..i had the dial version..with blue tooth.
Hey Mel, how much Kilowatts does your heater is able to do? Isnt it a little small for such a big Van? Why dont you use a Truma Combi which is also making warm water (I know it is way more expensive) but a proper heater is nothing to safe money on I think.

Heya, yes I have a diesel heater fitted but we fitted it under my passenger seat and ducted out through the van. You can watch it all over on my channel ;) x
2cm² -ish to absorb heat, 7,000cm² -sh across the rest of the tank to lose it again, I wouldn't worry about it though it wouldn't be a design choice I would make deliberately (except maybe in really cold climates).
When the water is filled it will be cold and with a hot pipe against it surely it will cause the tank to sweat in that area which would run down the tank causing water to sit under the tank and cause problems in the future.
Hi Mel, just a small note, I fit an air filter (usually a ramair induction cone filter, washed) on the cabin air intake for these, you would be shocked at the amount of dust, fluff, and stuff that it collects, in fact I have started to cover the cone filter with another paper bag hepa type filter from dust collector vacuum as I am fed up blowing the cone out with air so often ! but I can highly recommend using one if sensitised to dust etc. Just wondering if anyone else does this ? I was really surprised at the amount of debris collected on filter.
Seriously though, I like the idea. I would be tempted to use the same filter as the engine so there's a spare. They're a flat rectangle so they're easy to mount & I would put it on the underside of a lid so it's accessible & so gravity does some of the cleaning.

Hi Mel, when you get your Bobil system set up you won’t need the Maxspeedingrods controller as the Bobil controls the heater. Also word to the wise, run way more heating ducts than you think, especially across back doors and into the can area, try to get some vent outlets that you can manually shut off that was you’ll have more control 👍
LiFePO₄ are less inclined to that than older chemistries, I've not heard of anyone that's actually got one worrying about it, especially with good quality controllers.
The safest chemistry is Nickel-Iron (NiFe), the plates are non-combustible metals & the electrolyte is pretty inert potash. They weigh about the same as lead-acid & take the same space though you can discharge them very deeply so smaller ones are useful.

That air intake is a little to close to the exhaust I'd put a carbon monoxide detection device to check

I've fitted many many diesel heaters, and find that Mikalor SS clamps (25mm - 27mm) are superior even to the Webasto clamps, and less expensive.

There is actually a protective film on the screen, bloody hard to get off as it is tucked behind the plastic.

Be interesting to see if you can get the app to work, mine hasnt worked in months. Bit disappointing as the app is why i went with this heater.

Apparently there are extra considerations when mounting them outside, you can tip them on one side but not the other is one I noticed...
I would be worried about the hot diesel heater pipe warming the cold water in the tank and causing condensation in that area.

Beauty of cone induction filter is you can get in diameter to slip over end of heater or ducting, no mods required 🙂

That battery is very large. I built my own 200 ah lifepo4 and it's about half the size.
Yeah it is a lot bigger than I expected but if it works I’m happy with that 👍

I'd alway buy an upgraded exhaust them cheap ones fall apart pretty quickly.
