  • In this video we will be diagnosing the mode of failure on my 2009 Subaru Outback with the 2.5L EJ. This engine seized tight while driving and now cylinder number 2 has a spark plug showing significant signs of physical damage. We are going to look at common failure points such as head gasket, timing belt, timing belt pulleys, and much more!

The snapped-off spark plug in the thumbnail made me immediately go full Eric O: well there's your problem, lady!

With that much damage you definitely have a valve bouncing around that cylinder. Once you get that engine out will be interesting to see what it was but thats my bet. Also I've watched videos on these flat 4 engines being assembled and its so weird. Would be kind fun taking one apart.

Haha. Absolutely bud. I think there is something rolling around cylinder 2. I am looking forward to dissecting this thing as I have never been that deep into a flat 4. I will definitely post my findings for the group to discuss haha.

And some folks think I'm lying. when I tell them neither the dealership nor an independent Subaru garage wanted to work on The Lovely Brides sons Subaru when we still lived in The Peoples Republic of Maryland. He did manage to get $600.00 out of that piece of crap from a scrap dealer.
