One of my favorite scenes worth when Matt Damon was trying to get damn files and Mark Wahlberg whoopty behind I would Matt Damon's girlfriend was trying to psychoanalyze him and he looked at her and like maybe you need to go and see a psychiatrist and dealing with both of them she probably did need to she is a great actress and by the way I loved her and Bates hotel I seen her the other movies before she's a good actress
Hated Damon and his partner for what they did to Leo, but man, when Marky Mark catches up with Matt... Never felt so much satisfaction in one scene

He missed the most important part, the guy who shot dicaprio was a mole for Nicholson as well the whole time. This movie is like the plot twist of all plot twists.
Actually he was unknown to Nicholson but was aligned to Matt Damon's character. Watch their early interactions after graduating where MD tells him that he will get him some smart new clothes to wear to impress his new female colleagues, and how important it is that they stick together no matter what.

The scene where Jack suspects DiCaprio of being the rat and heâs sketching the rats in a kind of cheese paradise while talking to DiCaprio and Jack makes that rat gnawing facial expression is fuckn hilarious
That reminded me of the scene at the end of Donnie Branco when Lefty shows him the article about the ABSCAM boat.

And I wouldnât be at all surprised if the facial expression was improvâd by Jack, just for added effect (unless the script actually says, [âCostello makes a gnawing faceâ] đ€Ł). You never know with Scorsese, but that just seemed to have Jackâs personal zaniness stamped all over it.
Being from Boston, one of my favorite things about The Departed is just how well it represents that part of Bostonâs history. Itâs pretty comical seeing the cast, which was terrific in their roles, completely butcher the accent. Matt Damon and Mark Wahlberg are the only ones who nail it, since theyâre both from Boston.

The reason Leoâs character is seeing the Psychiatrist is to go along with his cover story. Sheen says at the start â youâll do some time, see a state sponsored shrink, the whole 9 yardsâ she is a state shrink who also has police clients so Damonâs character meets her through that
Yeah I think he shot someone so they need to be sure he's still stable after that. Cops have rather traumatic jobs actually I think that's why so many become emotionally detached and somewhat psychotic to cope too.
Ray Winstone is one of the most underrated actors. Leo, and Jack Nicholson were on the top of their game too.
Totally agree.....he's brilliant in Sexy Beast. Ben Kingsley, who is also in that film plays a fantastic part.

I had a girlfriend whose brother was a semi pro hockey player, I had never been to a hockey game before but I had a fair share of fights, I couldn't believe it, they let the players fight until one hit the ground and the stands were filled with fights, I loved that, the brother played for Seattle so the matches against Portland were EPIC, the whole crowd "Portland SUCKS" fun times!!!

the respect he instantly commanded, he wasnt far behind nicholson on the level of acting throughout the movie.

I see this movie as being the measure of perfection in terms of twists and turns count.
It comes really close to being excessive a few times, but never actually crosses an unbelievable line.

I love it when Mafia movies include other forms of Organized crime. Here we get a rare instance of showing the Irish Mob/Irish-American Mob as apposed to the usual Italian/American crime family's. Not only that but we get to see a deal between the Irish Mob and the Triads (Chinese Mafia). Let's hope we get to see more of these instances in future

Fun fact: DVD Piracy was at its peak in China at the same time Infernal Affairs 2 was released, so the producers of the movie simultaneously released it in the theaters n DVD.
Hands down one of my favorite endings to a movie. I absolutely loved it when Mark Wahlberg popped Damon's character and strolled off like it was just a day at work. He knew that POS had something to do with Sheen's character Gettin killed and wanted that payback!!! Plus I loved the fact he let him see his face before pulling that trigger. That was one killing he wasn't gonna lose sleep over. Sadly in real life the Dirt Cop rarely gets caught or sent to Hell!!!
Scorsese films seem to all be very watchable. He knows how to keep pace and he knows the best way to draw you in.

In my experience, Jack Nicholson's performance is the most realistic I've ever seen. The way he plays like he knows something but then flips it like he doesn't while talking to you is what the guys were like with me.

One of THE greatest mob movies EVER!! DiCap was riveting. He was the audience ... like you were he in what seemed like life and death in every scene, and that intensified the anxiety. Like, what would you do ... especially in that scene when Nicholson called him in the bar to ask him why he didn't give up his social security. WOW!! "...Heavy is the head that wears the Crown."

Also has Ben Kingsley who is genuinely a bit scary and Ian McShane who's probably scarier.
It really is a must see crime film.

Absolutely high quality content as always! Iâd love to see a review for the original masterpiece this was based on, called Infernal affairs (taking place in Hong Kong). It would be incredible to listen to your point of view on Hong Kong and Chinese triads (in comparison to the Italian mafia).
other movies on Chinese triads Iâd recommend: Hard Boiled, A better Tomorrow, The Killer, City on Fire, The Killers. Also Infernal affairs is a trilogy so I definitely recommend the other two movies.
I would also love to see your review on other movies like Nameless Gangster (South Korea), Snatch (UK) and A Prophet (French).

I'd thoroughly recommend watching "Scum" starring Ray Winstone. Not a gangster film. It's set in a young offenders prison in Britain, but it's one of Ray's most prominent films and a great watch.
Nil by mouth is a better film IMO, but I do like Scum

Hey Michael, another great Mob Movie Monday. I love The Departed, have seen it several times. Once I watched on a flight from Houston to Boston on my iPad and then walked around and some of the places where the film was shot.
Boston being much smaller than NYC, there are fewer crews. The movie leads me to believe there weren't really any Italian crews. The seen in the deli where Leo takedown the two guys from Providence hints that the Italians were trying to move in. I'm no expert but I've spent enough time and know enough people in Boston to understand that the Southies are pretty strong, tough people. Was Boston run exclusively by the Irish back in the day?
Mr Franzese, I'd love to watch you reviewing some of Michael Mann movies, like "Thief" or "Heat". Best wishes from Poland!

Just re-watched it a few days ago. It could have released this year. The directing, the MUSIC, story, dialogues... It might be the most timeless and maybe the best and most underrated movie of all time...
@@abovemadness I think most of the parts of him as an old man is an opium dream, in which he tries to justify his actions. At the end [SPOILER] when Max supposedly jumps into the garbage truck thereâs a Chinese building behind Noodles, which could represent the fact that heâs still in the opium den.

I think one of the funniest lines is,"Is your name really Mr. French?"
Lets just take a moment to appreciate Mr. Franzese for turning his life around and using his knowledge for the betterment of society. We all love mafia based entertainment, but the truth behind it is a very dark and not so glamorous reality. For example I just love anything related to Lucky Luciano since I seen the movie MOBSTERS where he was portrayed by Christian Slater. The life story of his is incredible. But how many deaths is he responsible for? Its a weird weird world we live in

One of my favourite Scorsese films and one of my favourite films in general. I really love how the film weaves this complex narrative together since we basically have two plots going on with both moles, both of which could have made their own great movies but William Monaghanâs script just so effortlessly brings them together without forcing it, everything feels so natural the way they come together and mirror each other. I also love Jack Nicholson in this movie, heâs clearly having a blast and I like how heâs the main thing tying the plots together. I also love Mark Wahlbergâs performance. This is really the first thing Iâve seen him in where heâs had to really act and he knocks it right out of the park. Great movie. Definitely one of Scorseseâs best.
Also, the opening sequence is just amazing. Probably has one of my favourite opening lines of any movie âI donât want to be a product of my environment. I want my environment to be a product of me.â And I love how the movieâs first line is this, and the last line is âOkayâŠâ followed by a gun shot and then some sweet Roy Buchanan.
Mob Movie Monday is like a fine wine. It gets better with age.. đ·

Scorsese choose a perfect cast for this movie. Amazing
What a lot people donât know is that this film was an adaptation of a Chinese movie called Infernal Affairs with Andy Lau and Tony Leung. Was such a great movie and as much as I like the Departed, Infernal Affairs was so much better because it was the original. Another movie with the same plot was Hard Boiled, which was also in Chinese with Chow Yun Fat and a great movie.
Movie lived up to its title... loved the film the the line âno teeki no laundry â still use it... Nicholson is a national treasure
