Eating and buying *local* honey. Mass producers often do not care for the bees properly and should not be supported in place of a local bee keeper.
Especially if the hive is something like a drip hive! The bees aren't even disrupted when collecting honey in them.

Ah! Is he getting guinea fowl? We had guinea fowl when I was a kid, for about an hour. Then they flew away into the forest behind our house and only turned up on misty days at the bottom of the garden to taunt my dad. Make sure their pen has a roof! Our chickens were totally free range though and they were great, we had a house for them at night but half preferred sleeping in the walnut tree.
Guinea fowl are such stupid but lovable birds. They're just sentient footballs with peanut heads. The males can be kinda mean but the females are some of the sweetest birds. A neighbor has some and I love feeding them treats.
I love them but whenever I see them I immediately get nervous! Because we have a fair amount of wild ones in South Africa and they'll often run out into the road in front of cars, and I would be so sad if I ever hit one
@@KayCustom We have that problem with squirrels. And raccoons. And opossums. And skunks. And cats. And deer. The Moose and the Bison were already there and they aren't moving. Those last three will total your car. I met a cow in the road once; it was very polite and stood on the double yellow line so that cars could pass on both sides.
They will also make excellent guard dogs and will eat their weight in fleas and ticks!
I cant stand guinea hens they are sooooo annoying but they are very beautiful birds.

I used to live in a place where the local walmart was a 30 minute drive. And Maine is MUCH smaller than Texas.

this was kind of my point - what's considered local and how different that concept is when you're dealing with a place where everything is more spread out - I've don't think I've ever lived anywhere in the UK where I couldn't walk to get at least a basic weekly grocery shop. So what I consider local is pretty different. It's just interesting, not saying either one is wrong, it's context.
It's probably a completely different city, but it doesn't feel that far when you have to drive an hour to get to a doctor or two hours to the closest airport.
Some parts of the US are so spread out we talk about distance in the amount of time it takes to drive there. Other parts, less so...

Haha, I had a tiny lavender plant on my window box for 2 years. Only two flowers and about 3 inches tall. And this past year it just exploded to be a bush. Lavender likes it when you ignore it and give up.

A high school friend of mine has just started homesteading at her home in my old hometown...she named their place Dandelion Mountain Homestead. I'll have to show her your videos; I do believe she'd like them!

Katie watch out on those Guinea Hen's, they are super loud! My mom is 78 and she still talks about her childhood and how loud Mrs. Totskey's Guinea Hens were and they lived down the road from my mother's family fairly far. One positive she states is that they never needed an alarm clock to get up in the morning! :D

LOL Katie, you may not be on board with the Guinea Fowl just yet, but you will be! They are actually really cool birds and quite intelligent and friendly once they’re used to you. My husband is from South Africa, where they are everywhere (wild and domestic). The first time we went there to visit his family, we drove from his hometown in central South Africa up to Namibia to see his aunt and uncle. At the Namibian border, while we were waiting to be processed, there were a ton of wild guinea fowl and semi-feral cats all hanging out on the side of the road together. As we watched, the birds and cats walked up to our car and started eating all the bugs we’d collected on the drive off of the grill and bumper! According to the border guards, the fowl and cats apparently grew up together and are all friends-the cats don’t try and hunt them. It was really cool and they were all (cats and fowl) super friendly. When we got back in the car, they all trooped back over to the side of the road to wait for the next car and next meal, just hanging out together! I think I once you get them and they get used to you you’ll really like them. Also, if you’re a meat eater, they are delicious! 😆 But yeah, they definitely look like tiny dinosaurs!

I used to raise Guinea Fowl! They are very territorial birds! They learn which animals are meant to live on the land, and what isn't meant to be on your land. If someone is trespassing, or not meant to be there, they are quick to cry out and let the person (and you) know they aren't supposed to be there. Depending on how big the flock is, they will even take on and kill a snake.
They love to roost in trees, off the ground, so give them plenty of roosting bars for them to climb up on.
When it comes to eggs, they won't always lay where YOU want them to lay, and you might have to go hunting for their egg nest if they choose to lay in a specific place, hidden from you. (If you let them free roam)
Katie you mentioned in your cottagecore soap video that you liked cardigan by Taylor Swift and THANK YOU FOR SAYING THAT BECAUSE I WAS ON SPOTIFY AND CAME ACROSS CARDIGAN AND LISTENED TO IT AND IT WAS AMAZING AND NOW I CAN'T STOP LISTENING TO TAYLOR SWIFT :)

What a cozy theme for this month! There is a gentleman with his own apple orchard about 3 minutes away from my house. He has his own cider business which he makes with his own apples that he grows, and he has chickens and sells farm fresh eggs, farm fresh is always the best. So yummy! ..... soapy cupcakes 🧁

Katie, I just wanted to tell you this. I have discovered that my husband and I are opposite of you and your hubby. He gets the ASMR tingly feels and I can't stand ASMR. He always says it's so relaxing and I'm over here like yeah, your wife could use some of that relaxation and I listen and OH BOY it just makes my skin crawl. I keep hoping one of these times I'll like it, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't work that way, lol.

Oh be careful saying where abouts you live! Some people have no boundaries and will just turn up at your door, sometimes not realising how weird and scary it can be. Because they watch your videos some people may feel like they know you and can go too far and almost think you're friends. So please be super careful!
I tend to buy your soaps often and was so sad thos soap was always available. Recently bought a bar and y'all--my bathroom smells so good for DAYS. It's very sweet with a strong honey aftertone. It's a little difficult to lather and needs to be in the water ever few wipes but you'll smell like honey super strongly for hours. My sheets still smell so good and my skin's really soft. Thank you, Katie!
The type of bird he is getting is a Guinea Fowl. They can be really friendly and they eat ticks! as well as other bugs, and they are awesome for the garden too! Usually they are great mothers and the eggs are a little smaller than regular eggs, but so much richer! I highly recommend! They have a unique bird call and you will know when there are bad guys around as their call can be ear piercing! I miss having them. Good luck and so happy with your success! You and your family deserve it!

Oh and I was wondering if you could have someone make a picture and info of all the previous soaps you have made... I am having issues with remembering the exact soap names of the soaps that I purchased.... so it would be nice and I am sure it would help you in the long run to have a ready list.... no matter what, the soaps are fantastic, but it would be nice to be able to re order when you do similar scents again....

Lol 😉🏵️💚 I dream of a day that I won't work as hard on my farm and get to make the wonderful beautiful soaps off of the stuff that our farm produces but instead I let Katie do it for me and I live vicariously through her but a homestead collection... And I already love her and this is so speaking to my soul!! I did get one of the boy band ones this time pretty excited about that!!
And Katie I'm only in Oklahoma if you want anything I have, anything on my farm tell me if you need raw goods I'll bring them down to you!!!! And we were gifted lots of our stuff by other Farmers. you'll find if you start farming it really is a life of abundance I know it doesn't seem like it abundance of work but also abundance of bounty!! There's always some animal needing just a little bit of special attention that would do better at a new home than on our large farm where we're all so busy. I know that seems weird but I really would be happy to to do anything you just are such a sweet lady please so much good and happiness into the world and into my personal life it's the least I could do.
