- It's the college applications season, and although we're used to thinking that Harvard, Princeton, Yale and Stanford are the best for everything, they come in short when judged by how beautiful and comfortable their dorms are. Indeed, the colleges that made it onto this list are the least expected! These are the 24 best college dorms in the country -- as ranked by YOU!

I wish my dorm was on here lol. I have an apartment style with two baths and 6 bedrooms (living and dining room plus kitchen). Free laundry on our floor and quiet study rooms and lounge spaces. The ground floor has free tutoring and other stuff I've yet to explore.

In Belgium half of the students just stay at home and then for the orher part, most dorms are private housing. I live with people from other universities and I go home every single weekend.

I live in Canada and the dorms at some of the colleges are nice as well but I live at home so I saved money.

Wash U is freaking amazing and trust me their dorms make you want to cheat on the ACT just to sleep there
I'm gonna be honest...I love Stanford but my dorm was terrible! No air conditioning and quite small. Also everything is super far but good news is its gorgeous outside.

gosh really wanted to see the dorms and can u guys tell me; which is better Harvard dorms or stanford or Oxford
probably Oxford and maybe Harvard. i've heard that Stanford dorms are quite cramped haha and at Harvard it seems to be 50/50- like some dorms seem utterly small and cramped while others seem more newer and spacious. I think you might have a better shot at Oxford...? UK dorms in general seem to be more spacious than US ones but perhaps it is just me.

.......yet the dorms on other colleges are more expensive wtf! I don't see a $20,000 dorm room here! Why tf they want so much then!?
You are not just paying for the dorm room, itself, you are paying for Dining Plans, maid service, laundry services, internet services, electric/water usage, upkeep on dorms, building of new dorms, interest payments on loans for dorm buildings, employment of cafeteria workers, food purchasing, etc. It takes a lot of money to keep all that going. Which is not to say some schools are not potentially turning a profit from Room and Board, but it DOES take a lot of money to provide food and housing for students.
And a better/nicer college may actually have lower costs to provide those services than a lesser quality college in a big city, for example. It is also why a college that has several years of decreasing enrollment can rather quickly go under/bankrupt. Quick search just indicated that 5 closings per year has been the last 10-year norm, but that number was expected to possibly TRIPLE by the end of 2017, according to a Moody Research study. Mergers of smaller colleges is also on the rise. Running a college aint cheap.
Has anyone been to northwestern? How are their dorms and was the college a good choice?
I went to Northwestern a long time ago. A lot of new dorms have been built since I graduated. Dorm rooms vary quite a bit.

All college dorm rooms are the same. You have a twin sized bed with a desk on each side of the 100 square foot room.
Luke Jackson not exactly true. My dorm came with a large closet, twin xl bed, desk, nightstand, and dresser. It's also apartment style, has a kitchenette, and a full bathroom. And it's freshman housing.

Luke Jackson at university of Kentucky, the majority of the students there have their own rooms and share a common area (small kitchen and eating area) and bathroom with their roommate, kinda like a small apartment
madison balvanz I actually go to UK and you're exactly right. I stayed in WG4 last year. There's only one hall that has your traditional dorm rooms. Blazer dining hall used to be a dorm hall and if you've ever been in there, the bathrooms are old and the offices are old dorm rooms

I live in Lynchburg and have been on Liberty U. campus many, many times. Trust me, their dorms are not top 10. And the campus is not remotely a top 100. It is honestly one of the most uninviting campuses that I have EVER been on. Speaking from an atmospheric/architectural standpoint. Nor does it have a very convenient layout. Facilities had some serious coin dropped on them, so you get some nice things to play with, but pretty or inviting? Lynchburg itself, and surrounding area, are truly beautiful, but as for the campus? Just keep on looking. Of course, people pretty much go to Liberty for one reason, so whatever, but it does not belong on this list. If you just want to go to college in L-burg and want a beautiful campus (dorms are not Top 10, but improving), go to Lynchburg College (becoming University of Lynchburg in summer 2018).

It's always quite amusing when Americans talk about "best" dorms. In almost every European country students live in 800+ square feet/80m2 flats with two or three people, having their own furniture etc., and pay 5000 Dollar per year at the very most (excluding some extraordinarily high priced cities like Paris etc.) from their first semester on.

Here in Brazil, we have a terrible educational system, ever on Marxists' hands. Among the more than 1,000 Brazilian universities, none is among the 100 best universities of the world.
