    Only time of day where I feel normal is right after I wake up, for approx 10 seconds. Then I remember that I'm not ok and the symptoms come. Proves that anxiety and these symptoms are only in your head, they're not real. They're nothing to be worried about, they will go away once you let them.

    Don't be scared if your anxiety and DPDR gets worse after a while. It's normal that even in the more advanced stages of recovery, you will get hit hard again by it. Just keep on going the way you were doing, and follow the advice given by Shaan. I can also tell you that Dr. Claire Weekes (one of Shaan's biggest inspirations when it comes to anxiety recovery) assures this in her book "Hope and help for your nerves." She states that it occurs quite often that sufferers have a sudden rush of old symptoms in the end that suddenly seem to come out of nowhere. It's a normal part of the process. Good luck to everyone recovering! :)

    So I’ve learned that stress is the major trigger for my anxiety episodes. Dealing with this right now after finally cracking last week. I managed to get over the intrusive thoughts portion after a day or two because I realized what it is. I started doing some proper stress management, and it’s helped a bunch, but I still have issues with this. I have moments of clarity and I’m feeling normal, but then I can’t help but focus on the dull ache and foggy feeling in my head, as well as the feeling of being sorta detached, even some eye strain. I have an issue with over stimulation and over whelming myself and the last few months have been rough on me. But I was a year anxiety free after 8 years of hell, and then stress caused it again, and I’ve been 2 years free up until this point, and I now know I need to take stress management and my lifestyle A LOT more serious. I have those thoughts of doubt about recovering from this and feeling normal again, but I know it’s possible because I’ve done it twice. You really need to get focused on other things, obsessed even.
    There’s a great book by Paul David called A Life At Last that was a major help but pretty much echos what Shaan is saying. It’s your worn out mind. It’s stressed and stress manifests as anxiety symptoms, and once those symptoms hit it can quickly turn into a vicious cycle that goes on for years.
    I swear once I get through this I’m doing everything I can to not go back, and so far my protocol is helping.

    It's like this, you're noticing things, thoughts and everything because your're sensitised, you're trying to escape them by doing all types of actions, you end up more sensitised, you start feeling dp/dr, ypu end up with more fear, you try to escape that along with other things that happened before that. Vicious cycle! Great video!

  • @Thysta
    @Thysta Před 11 měsíci +2

    People who acquire depersonalization probably grew up with narcissistic / extremely controlling / traumatized parents, and they tend to behave like they don't have the right to occupy (psychological, emotional) space in the world. The reason you focus on these "symptoms", which are not even symptoms, but normal physiological manifestations of your emotions, is because in your childhood, 90% of your honest self-expressions was responded to like it was mean, wrong, stupid. Obsessing over non-existent mental illnesses (no offense, I am NOT stating you are a crybaby or "making this up") is a form of dissociation from your actual life. This is not a flaw of you, and it can be 100% healed, but you have to understand where you are coming from, and very important to drop your totally false ideas about growing up in a picture perfect family.

    For me, its at its worst now, I have panic attacks almost daily, never feel like im the one doing things rather a robot doing them, and always feel like reality isn't real. The thing that is hardest for me is not focusing on the symptoms, because sometimes they get so bad that I feel almost obligated to focus on them, which ultimately makes the symptoms worse and makes them last longer. Anyone have any tips for not focusing on the symptoms?

      Yes I felt like that everyday a few months ago, everything just felt blurry like I wasnt there. However, after focusing more on longterm freedom by accepting my symptoms and living my life anyway that feeling started to become more natural and less noticeble. Its gotten better to the point where I mainly just feel like it in my setbacks (Happens every three weeks or so, lasts for like 1 week) and they start to happen less frequently. So it really starts to get better once you stop questioning it. It is important tho to also stop comparing with how it used to and just keep pushing in a straight line. Recovery comes once these symptoms dont affect/scare you anymore.

  • @KatieSweeney.
    @KatieSweeney. Před rokem

    I have been suffering from severe depersonalization/derealization ever since taking a massive amount of psilocybin mushrooms (5.5 grams 🤦🏻‍♀️) 3 weeks ago. Friends recommended I try them to help cure the PTSD that was caused due to my beloved dog’s euthanasia a few months ago. I have a bunch of serious health issues (Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, MCAS and POTS) and don’t metabolize drugs properly, so I typically stay away from them and stay away from drinking as well. My diet is meticulously clean and I’m extremely health conscious. But due to lack of sleep from the PTSD I wasn’t thinking clearly and tried the shrooms. It was the most horrific trip imaginable and I ended up with serotonin syndrome and ego death. I went to the hospital 3xs. I feel like they still must be in my body somehow because it feels like I’m still tripping. I have no idea who I am anymore and my perception is constantly fluctuating. All I want to do is go back to the mental state I was in a month ago so that I could grieve my dog’s death normally. I feel like the mushroom incident pushed my memories of her even further away and created a chasm between her and I. I feel like my memories are now going to be forever influenced and tainted by this whole experience. I feel like my dog at least existed in my brain but now my brain is fried and I can no longer access memories of her so it feels like I killed her all over again and I no longer know what is real. I’m completely disconnected from my sense of self and I used to love myself. Everywhere I go looks new, terrifying and foreign.... as if I’m seeing familiar places for the first time. 😭

      You’re not the only one. The event triggered a massive panic attack and you got in the cycle.
      I’d suggest you see a psychologist to help you with the trauma of the experience.
