This is the most action the DB5 has seen since Goldeneye
I'm happy they also used some unique cars that rarely have seen action in movies, like the Lancia Thesis and Maserati Quattroporte IV.

@@TheHigherUps. have you seen crash tests on older cars compared to modern ones? Old cars were terrible at this point, because it was not seen as relevant at this time. In comparison modern cars are very good at it, because by now it has become a priority. Materials themselves might have become more expensive, but there were massive leaps in processing, so the raw material is more expensive, but by the time it gets in to the shape and purity you want it is cheaper than earlier.

@@TheHigherUps. old cars look amazing, but old cars being stronger is not true. sure they were heavier and may have had thicker material, but they were terrible at keeping the passengers safe in a crash. modern cars are meant to crumble in the right places to cushion the impact, but keep the passengers safe from from the impact. just look at the lengthly process that the major car companies do in order to make sure their cars are as safe as possible.
The escape from the square is one of my favorite scenes in the movie. It’s like a three step rocket with 1) Bullet proof windows, 2) Machine guns, 3) Smoke screen. Add Hans Zimmer’s badass soundtrack, rearranging a piece of the original Bond theme, and it goes straight into the hall of fame of one of the most epic scenes this DB5 has ever had.

@@bananian She got a call from Blofeld telling her ”good job” while Bond was listening but it was all a trick from Blofeld’s part. Madeleine was never in on it, but Blofeld made him distrust her. In this scene, my interpretation is that Bond is about to give up. Let them die together. But Madeleine convinces him to take them out of the situation. After that, he puts her on the train and withdraws to Jamaica, chosing a life in solitude.
Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig kept the legend of this vehicle alive!

I wonder what Mendes thought of this scene. He commissioned a bespoke Aston Martin specifically for 'Spectre' and came up with arguably the most tedious chase scene in all of Bond films. They used a classic DB5 here, and it's appreciably more exhilarating than the Roman chase.

When I first saw it in theaters, I thought Madeleine was scared, sick, suddenly in pain, or something else. I guess I’m still learning on certain types of foreshadowing outside of cartoons and comic books.
She did know. "I have something to tell you." She didn't get the chance to say "I'm pregnant."
This was a perfect mix of classic and new age Bond. Underrated film imo.

The feeling of pain comes from a betrayal for James again... He really wanted to do nothing, but die there. Yet, he continued just for her. If there was no one there, James was going to let them kill him probably.

That DB5 is an *ABSOLUTE* hero. Great example of where the car becomes a character.
Btw gonna get VERY nerdy for a tick - those two miniguns (look like M134s?) weigh 85lb per Wikipedia and 1,000 rounds of its ammo (7.62x51mm, also known as .308) weigh just over 50 lb. So say 2 of those guns with 3,000 rounds each, would be less than 500lb of weight. That’s a lot of weight but remember that IN REAL LIFE they built a few “brand new DB5s” for this movie that were essentially nothing more than a roll cage, carbon panels, some familiar sheet metal, and the most athletic street-legal engine BMW ever made, the S54 inline-six. (Watch Carfection’s videos on the car, it’s an absolute Exocet missile of a car), and I think that car weighed barely over a tonne? It was less than 1.1 tonnes. So adding the dual miniguns would still keep it under 1.3 tonnes, i.e. a featherweight. I know space-wise i.e. getting it all to fit in the engine bay it might not be possible, but physically/dynamically it would be 100.00% possible to carry those two guns and abundant ammunition into a (modern) DB5 and still have it drive like a bat out of hell.

I agree. I'm not a massive fan of cars in Bond films as such, sure cars have their role in Bond of course and are a huge part of the fun, but the Aston Martin DB5 escaping has an amazing thing about it no other car could have done, it was mean British bad ass.
They are not firing here at full speed nor with usual caliber. Sound nor visuals doesnt match. It also feels like they are bursting rather than holding fire here in which case they are only miniguns because they looked cooler than normal rifle barrel.
Heavy would mean it's harder to get knocked around too so I'd say it's plausible lorewise.

When I saw this in the theatre this is the only scene that excited me tbh. Seeing bond grab a dab of oppo in a DB5 just does it for me.
This is the last chase the Aston Martin features in, and BOY does it get a beautiful send-off!
The later chase is a bit more dramatic, seeing as Bond is improvising with a civilian car, but it's nice to see the AM get its say!

Also you can read the storm of thoughts in his mind about the bullets going directly to her, which could say she is not the one who betrayed him. Otherwise they wouldn’t shoot to her. But thats not 100% proof, knowing the spectre methods. But after her silent “No” you can clearly see he believe her and just wante to make her save and therefore let her go on the train. Fillings are impossible to have for double o agent. He made that mistake twice, that will not ever happen.

It came to me: what if Pierce Brosnan did a different 4th and final outing as James Bond 007 that's not Die Another Day?
The Man With the Red Tattoo (Raymond Benson) is the closest to being a Bondverse film that Pierce Brosnan would've done. Given its realistic brutal gritty yet nostalgic-driven Bondverse nature (similar to GoldenEye, Brosnan's debut as Bond), the film would've sat in stone for the modern Bondverse films going in more novel-accurate, realistic and scary dark direction in the wake of the success and popularity of The Bourne Identity, 24 and Spooks. I read the book and personally I consider it to be my personal favourite Bondverse novel out the whole Bondverse novel series that began wit Ian Fleming in 1953.
Madonna's "Die Another Day" will still be the official theme, can't deny its a punch-and-kick-throwing Bondverse banger that's perfect for the modern times we live in.
Had The Man with the Red Tattoo been released on the 40th anniversary of the franchise' existence 13 April 2003, the film would've made same amount of money like DAD, reviews would be critically acclaimed - despite being controversial for the film's adult and bloody violent tone, majority of reviews go to showing appreciation of being faithful faithful source material more, Brosnan being more developed and layered as Ian Fleming’s James Bond 007, the hallmark Bondverse film moments references - laser table, ski chase, Mad Max version of Goldfinger car chase, no-music brutal one-on-one between Bond and Goro Yoshida similar to From Russia With Love, the Aston Martin DB5 V12 that's NOT invisible referencing DB5 from Goldfinger, GoldenEye etc)
Imagine it. Bondverse film franchise even though we got the best films and film moments outta it, plenty of wasted creative and casting opportunities in my opinion - George Lazenby should've dominated the 70s as a B-movie rated-R yet novel-accurate James Bond after On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Timothy Dalton dominating the 80s as Bond rather than two late 80s Bondverse films, David Hedison playing Felix Leiter from Diamonds Are Forever to either Licence to Kill or to Man with the Red Tattoo, novel accurate versions of Live and Let Die and Moonraker etc.
If I were to give the role of James Bond 007 to someone who I feel can channel the same essence (without controversial aspects of him) as Ian Fleming’s character from his Bondverse series (1953-1964), I'd give it to Jack O'Connell.

No time to die is a film directed and written by Cari Joji Fukunaga in 2021. He is best known for the baroque and disturbing series "True Detective". Let's ask ourselves how he makes James Bond a broken and fragile character despite his appearance, whose tragedy is a spectacle.
In this film, Madelaine, the character played by Léa Seydoux is his whole life. She is his only possible escape, the only one who diverts him from his cruel daily life of betrayal, murders and painful manipulations such as those made to him by his half-brother, Blofeld played by the famous Cristoph Waltz. However, James has just learned that Madelaine may have betrayed him working for the source of his worst misfortunes, Blofeld and the Spectre. This time-lapse scene brilliantly symbolizes the reunion scene between the lovers that will come later in the film in which James Bond explains to his beloved that just the idea that she might have betrayed him frightened and terrorized him, justifying his rash act of rejection towards her when he abandoned her forever on a train. For yes, betrayal is one of the things the character has been most accustomed to. And to know that he is suffering one by the one who with only 5 minutes of his life was living the best life as he explains in the reunion scene is something that disturbs him enormously and naturally. This state of disturbance is beautifully developed in this excerpt, which might seem to be a simple action scene. Indeed, the scene begins with a bird's eye view of the Aston Martin standing still in the village under the quiet sound of the church towers. And we already feel a kind of stop in time effectively accompanying the drama of the story. Then, Fukunaga gives us a field view from inside Bond's car through which we see the enemy's threatening cars coming, those of Spectre. Madelaine next to James, who probably belongs to Spectre, and Spectre's cars arriving. As if everything comes down to this organization responsible for the worst misfortunes of the hero. There follows a great shot of James Bond, still in the car that remains calm. He only has in mind the betrayal he thinks he is suffering. We see him being a spectator of the danger but by his state of disturbance, not really considering retaliation. Still in a close-up, we see him moving his head slightly following the shots on the window ready to break of his vehicle. The upset face, he doesn't do anything while Madelaine is in a state of panic fearing to die and rightly so. He doesn't even deign to worry. We continue with a panoramic shot on the right side on the car invaded by shot and another one on the left side. This shows the immense aggressiveness of the situation and the extent of the danger to which our dear passengers of the Aston Martin are victims. But in the face of this great danger, James Bond, still terrorized, frustrated and disturbed like a child fearing to be abandoned by his parents, in the face of this idea of betrayal, does absolutely nothing, even though he has the means to do so. We return to a bird's eye view of the vehicle under fire and we still have the sound of the steeples that freezes the scene in time. By this, by this slowing down of the action, we are much more able and have the necessary time to live the state of emotional turmoil of the character played by Daniel Graig. It is a break that cuts the action to make the unhappiness and the loss of will of the secret agent in the elegant tuxedo shine. We are then given another great shot of James Bond watching Madeleine still with that frustrated face, choking in her panic and being exposed to danger. Then we have a great shot on Madelaine who undergoes the situation. We have there, a James Bond who knows perfectly what he is doing. As if he was doing nothing on purpose to make her suffer, to punish her like a child but in very serious circumstances. It is here that we feel the unhappiness of the hero but we are also attacked by the tension of the scene. Then, no more shots, still no words, just the sound of the bells and a great shot on a James Bond who expresses his pain and anger by grimacing. Here, we feel very well the trauma of the main character. But he doesn't react to the trauma like anyone else. He remains cold, he does not cry, he lets it happen by grimacing. This is the reaction of someone who has been around horror all his life and has been hardened by it. And yet, this does not mean that the pain is not great. One can even see in him, in spite of all that, a great fragility. Let's even notice the idea of self-destruction, many times in this scene, he could have died and see Madelaine die by his inaction. To believe that in the space of one moment, it is what he wished. His only source of light having betrayed her, what better way than to let himself die with her. We then have a medium shot of one of the enemies arming himself with the big gun and approaching the Aston Martin with it, to then shoot it very violently. This is followed by an American shot on our hero still cold and his Madelaine, still in shock. The latter lets the enemy be two fingers to explode the windows of the car, he does nothing leaving Madelaine screaming with fear, while having no more will. One can see here a James Bond who makes the expression of his tortured feelings. As if he was painting them. Note that during all this time, no music was present in the scene. Thus, it becomes even more palpable. This is followed by an American shot on Madelaine who begs James to do something, as if to wake him up, to make him come back to reality, to the right path. But disturbed and absent, this murdered man does not react and remains with his face of deep frustration. We then have chest shots on the extremely damaged windows that follow one another so that we feel how bad the situation is getting without James Bond finally deciding to act. And then, we are offered a close-up on the cold and broken face of James who doesn't make the effort to look at Madelaine who nevertheless continues with intense emotions to beg him to act. Thus, we come to see that his pain and his terrible fear of being betrayed is not to be taken lightly. It is really a dramatic scene. We then have a close-up on one of the windows ready to break from inside the vehicle. The gravity of the situation evolves in crescendo. Then comes a chest shot on James who suddenly looks at Madelaine as if the reality came back to him and that he started to consider her again. And then we have a counter-field on Madelaine who looks at Bond sadly and afraid. Then again a chest shot on James Bond who coldly signals to Madelaine that he will finally do something. So we see James Bond deploying the weapons of his vehicle and spinning it in all directions and shooting all the enemies with success. Proof that he could have eliminated them long ago and that he had the means to do so. He had chosen to do nothing. Now he is back to being a great fighting hero as the music comes back on. He comes back to reality and even to life in a way and heroically confronts reality.
Thus, through this scene tasted like caviar, the misfortune and doubts of our hero become a spectacle. We can also see how well Daniel Graig's James Bond films fit into the movement that consists in considering that action or superhero films should not be limited to simple entertainment but should be art, art of cinema. A movement of which we could consider Christopher Nolan as the father with his Batman and Inception. Films mixing actions, dramas, philosophy, reflections and strong emotions.

@ I know, but in a perfectly logical move of originality, Cari Fukunaga chose to make a James Bond whose story is not a simple copy of Ian's books. As good as they are... He wrote his own James Bond. Exactly like Sam Mendes with Skyfall. It's more original than copying a book even if the book is great.
