    Sauron was not always evil. At heart, he is a craftsman. He wanted to perfect the world, forge it to be perfect, but perfection required control, and control required dominion. The means for his goal most lined up with Morgoth, who wanted complete annihilation. It was in this way that Sauron became evil.

    • @AnnaMarianne
      @AnnaMarianne Před rokem +49

      Perfectly summed up and explained. His canon character is so much better - more interesting and more relevant - than the incel they turned him into. I wondered about it, why they did that to him; gave him an inferior characterization. But perhaps it's because they don't really see it as an evil goal to want to usurp for yourself the absolute power over the whole world in order to remake it after your ideal image of what it *should* be like. After all, that is more or less what their own ideology wants to do. So perhaps they felt that Sauron's evil must be in something else than simply the wish for (unauthorized and illegitimate) control.
      Nah, who am I kidding. They just want to insert white cishet MAGA incels into everything.
      (Oh my Eru, Sauron wants to make Middle-earth great again!)
      By the way, I wouldn't say that Morgoth knowingly wanted complete annihilation. He too wanted absolute control, so that nothing would ever happen without him not only allowing but also initiating it - he wanted there to be no other will but his own will. But I recall Tolkien wrote that this was a hopeless desire, one that stemmed from his pathological narcissism - a case of narcissism so severe, that he just couldn't stand that there even existed anything other than himself and what he had made. So, if I remember it right, Tolkien wrote that had Morgoth managed to take over the universe, in his narcissism he would have in the end just simply destroyed the whole universe, reducing it into atoms. And even then he would have been denied his lunatic wish, because he would not have been able to make the very matter itself vanish from existence. He could have reduced it into bits, but it would still have been there, endlessly driving him crazy.

    • @taddad2641
      @taddad2641 Před rokem +9

      honeslty that would explain why he would even be making plans while his master was still around too. he needed morgoth to redner middle earth into raw materail so he could regbuild it in his own image.

    • @Alex_Fahey
      @Alex_Fahey Před rokem +14

      Morgoth did not want complete annihilation. His goal was similar to that of Sauron's but more prideful. He wished the recognition deserving of the greatest of the Ainur and the ability to create the great things that only his father could create - sentient beings like his fellow Ainur or the children of Eru Iluvatar. When Eru rejected Melkor for his aggressive and prideful nature and put him back in his place, Melkor rebelled and sought to rule Arda. He would rule out of jealousy if he could not create his own. Morgoth is not some abyssal creation of Lovecraft seeking destruction for destruction's sake. He is the devil incarnate, if by different sins. A would be rival to the ultimate power seeking domination of that power's creations - not destruction of them.

    • @kamion53
      @kamion53 Před rokem +12

      Morgoth wanted to corrupt what Iluvatar had created and rule by corruption and is this way become the equal of Iluvatar.
      Sauron was already in Morgoth's pocket before Morgoth destroyed the Two Trees. Reason: AMBITION! Aulë would not give him the skills and powers he wanted quick enough and Melkor was a better bet.
      Ambition to rise above your given status was a Cardinal Sin in the eyes of old fashion Catholic JRR Tolkien.
      In this way Aragorn is the ultimate hero, he never had the ambition to become the Returned King, but accepted the burden fate had in stock for him.

    To answer about the Three Rings and their Bearers…
    Originally all three are in Celebrimbor’s possession. When Sauron marches on Eregion, he sends them away to the people he can trust most. (Celebrimbor is killed by Sauron under torture and his body is mounted on several pikes to be used as a banner.) One goes to Galadriel, and two go to Gil-Galad. Both keep the three secret and do not wield them while Sauron wears the One. Gil-Galad, before his battle with Sauron during the Last Alliance, bequeathed his rings to his advisors, Elrond and Cirdan. (Gil-Galad gets burnt to death by Sauron’s hand.) Cirdan will hold onto his until Gandalf arrives in Middle Earth by boat, and Gandalf carries it until the Three Rings go into the West at the end of the Third Age.

  • @ricomock2
    @ricomock2 Před rokem +54

    Cirdan is one of the original elves predating the crossing of the sea into the west, at the start of the elven race. He lead one of the original tribes of the elves, established the Grey Havens, raised Gil-Galid, and welcomed Gandalf into Middle Earth upon his canon arrival on a ship from Valinor and upon recognizing Gandalfs true nature and intent gifted him with one of the 3 elven rings. He also was one of the very last to leave for Valinor at the end of the 3rd age, accompanying Frodo, Bilbo, and the other remaining ring bearers on the last ship to leave Middle Earth for the Undying Lands
    He is a MASSIVE deal in Tolkien canon, though not directly addressed much in Tolkien's writings.

    Sauron is an easy character to explain. He is a smith, a master craftsman bar two, and all you have to do is show him worrying over his craft, everything he makes is just slightly off, beautiful beyond words but flawed. When he tries to fix it, he fails, when he tries harder his master Aule stops him. He keeps trying with what he can do, fails, over and over, until Melkor comes to him. With a single word, the flawed piece is made perfect, and Sauron is damned.

      - Gentle, feminine characters (like Snow White) forced into warrior girl boss roles? Check.
      - All the real leaders are women and the men are just kind of there? Check.
      - Bad boy/good girl pairing without enough character development to pull it off? Check.
      - Adult characters acting like middle school kids? Check.
      - Incoherent world-building? Check.
      - Mystery boxes with either no answers or stupid answers? Check.

      But to defend some points. The 2 main Villains Rumple and Regina are not misundertood vilains, they both are evil and showed as such. The show go to a long way to shown how they ended that way but it dosent paint then as missundertood, it shown then as evil. Both got redeemed latter, but this is very different than missunderstood. They had to acknowledge their own evil, repent and finaly be redeemed, it was a very long road and I liked Regina ending (and character as a whole.)
      Most of the other villains had to be beatten and or killed.
      Snow White was more warrior like, but she was still gentle and feminine. In the cursed world, her indecisivness, and weakness where the traits that cursed her. Her genttle heart and mothery love where the things that stayed true to her even there. Latter she becames a mother again and want to become the mother that she couldnt be for Ema.
      Belle was never retracted as a warrior and kept her gentleness and curiosity. Even Ema journey was to learn to be a mother and goes from warrior to sorceress (so not a fighting warrior girl boss).
      Cinderella from the last season I think is way way more in that direction.
      Charming was a good male character, represented as brave and corageous (to the point his cursed self was coward) and on letter seasons he becomes with Snow White that type of character that isnt very relevant anymore and just dont do nothing alltogether.

    In the LotR lore, the making of the Rings of Power was a long, complex process involving complex enchantments. There are a LOT of lesser rings out there that the elves made for practice before starting on the real Rings of Power (in fact, Gandalf long thought the ring Bilbo found in the depths of the goblin caves was one of these lesser rings).
    Then Sauron was directly involved in the process of creating the rings for the man and the dwarves. It was only after that when Galadriel and the others figured out Annatar was Sauron. Sauron's ability to influence all the Rings of Power was hard-baked into the creation process that he taught the elves, so even with the elves trying to make the three rings after cutting Sauron off and trying to keep any of his influence out of it, that backdoor was still there. The elves didn't dare use their rings until Sauron was defeated by the Last Alliance.
    In Rings of Power, the rings are literally just mithril alloy. We saw no tampering from Sauron or anything (nor any sort of complex enchantment process that even could be tampered with). Literally all he did was suggest alloys and one new alloy-making trick to the best and most experienced blacksmith in the world.
    The rings themselves are so botched in the Rings of Power. How the hell are they going to salvage any other canon? I don't see it being possible.

    I continue my quest to collect the best of the "I Loved The Part Where..." Memes.
    If you have any additions, know that your contribution may be added to the unfolding saga.
    I loved the part where Galadriel Ebony Dark'ness Dementia Raven Way Targaryen (GEDDRWT) faced off against the german-orcs, "We have the mightiest armies in all of middle earth! What do you have that could defeat us?" Incelron just cracked his neck and said, "Magic, Mutherf*cker." Then Frodo said, "Crap. we're gonna need a bigger ring." so Gandalf told the Ents "run forrest run!" Then Don Lemonlas said, "We Haz RANGS!" while wearing T-shirt that read, "Ask Me About My Translucent Agenda." Then all the N*zis got blown up when the Gay Engola dropped two nukes: Body-Positive Man and Little Transboy.
    All Game of Thrones scholars agree that the scene where Rhaenyra whispers in Celeborn's ear “I hate pee on the toilet seat when I go to use it.” and then disconnects the machine that keeps him alive, perfectly delivered George JRR Martin's message of hope and healing for all wahmankind. Then Galadriel jumped into the ocean with Dory and started singing, "Just keep swimming."
    I have to admit, I did not like the part where the authot race swapped the ents. Ents are clearly White Birch, but those ents were OAK. Remember, Arboreal Pollen is Tree ejaculation, so the Ent orgy counts as interracial and should have the appropriate tags. Although they redeemed themselves when Scott Bakula quantum leaped into T(reebeard)'Challa. I was taken off guard when GEDDRWT and Rey Palpatine arrived in Wakanda to fookin scissor, and a white man said "we don't do that in here" and Rey replied, "are you Shuri about that?"
    My favorate part would have to be when Gandalf said, "Did you ever hear the tragedy of Morgoth? I thought not. It's not a story the Valar would tell you. It's a Maiar legend. Melkor was a Dark Lord, so powerful and so wise he could use the Silmarils to influence the Great Music to create life... He had such a knowledge of the unseen world that he could even keep the ones he cared about from losing their Facebook accounts if they posted the N-word. The dark side of the unseen world is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful... the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice became the Dark Lord Incelron. Ironic, he could save others from living in their parent's basement, but not himself."
    I loved the ending where Ursula said “Ahh, so you think darkness is your ally? But you merely adopted the dark; I was born in it, molded by it. I didn’t see the light until I was already an octopus, by then it was nothing to me but blinding!” Then She-Hulk said, "You either die a Hero or live long enough to see yourself become the Crustacean." And then Halbrand said, "YEW TUKE ARR JERBS!" and Kicked a Harfoot into a well while shouting, "THIS. IS. NUMENOR." But Then Ursula Replied, "I am INEVITABLE!!!" only for Ariel to impale her with the boat while saying, "And I am all the Jedi! ... On a Boat."
    As Ursula died she croaked, "The Sea... Is always... Right..."
    Then perked up, "And the sea shops exclusively at Amazon. Use The 'IAmAllTheJedi' code to get a ten percent discount on all your Amazon purchased items for one order." THEN she finally died.
    I laughed, I cried, I kissed 18 bucks goodbye.
    10/10 Would edge to it again.

    About Cirdan ... is a very interesting character ... he is mentioned primary in the Appendices of LotR ... keeping one of the rings safe and then giving it to Gandalf on his arrival
    It also mentions from the perspective of the hobbits writing about Sam going to the Havens that they believe he is still there as he will only Leave with the final boat.
    In the movies he leaves together with the ring Bearers
    but in the books he does not as not all Elves have yet left ... there are a few high elves that stayed in Rivendel ... including for a time Celeborn who remains in middle earth for some time into the 4th age and in the prologue of the fellowship it is implied that Celeborn and Cirdan leave together on that last boat.
    Cirdan is also the oldest named elf around he was part of the original migration to Valinor ... but stayed at the shore when Thingol got lost in the woods with Melian, and so never crossed to Valinor.
    He learned to build ships from one of the Maiar ... and was the leader of a sub group of Sindarin who considered Thingol their High King basically but were their own thing basically ...
    Gil-Galad was sent to Cirdan as a child for protection primarily and Cirdan was basically his forester parent ... and his chief advisor and also one of his top commanders ... being one of Gil-Galads generals during the Last Alliance together with Elrond and was present when Elending and Gil-Galad fought Sauron ...
    Hi fought in many wars and conflicts the elves were involved in Middle Earth .. Including the very first war for Belariand after Morgoth returned from Valinor.
    Multiple of the campaigns, and fought at Gil-Galads side during Saurons siege of Lindon ...
    He is also the only known Elf to have a beard ... as he is in what Tolkien described as an elven Old Age ... basically he has been through so much stuff his spirit feels old and worn but because he feels he has a purpose he refuses to leave his body yet as most elves do if they get to that point ... the result of this is his body reacting by growing a beard ...
    I dread what they will do to his character

    Regarding Círdan, he's one of the oldest elves in middle earth. He's not seen in Lotr because basically he's the one that hangs out at the grey havens west of the shire, building the ships that carry elves back to Valinor, something he's been doing for a good few millennia..
    He actually possessed the ring of fire, NAria, before handing it over to Gandalf after Gandalf appeared in middle earth.
    As to the question "why does a ship builder need a ring of fire", because the ring of fire was intended to set a fire in hearts and minds and inspire people, not just make things blow up.
    this is why Círdan had it, since the elves who approached him leaving middle earth tended to be weary and grieving and need a bit of fire in their souls, and this is also why he gave it to Gandalf, so that Gandalf could use it to become a leader in the war against Sauron.
    the other two rings were held by Elrdon and galadriel.
    Círdan does appear in Lotr, but only in the very last chapter, after sending one of his councillors to take part in the council of Elrond.
    In the second age he was certainly present, and again, like Gilgalad did not trust Anatar, aka the newly reformed Sauron the way celebrimbor did, so should be around at the time, but what's the betting they turn a stoical male character, who literally holds the last position and keeps watch over the waves so others can leave into a useless twittery weed, just like they did with Elrond!

It's known that most of the Nazgul started off as Heroes of men, and great kings. If they wanted to cast a diverse actor for a role, how about Kamul the easterling?? If you really wanted to sell your Halbrand character, then debut him as the witch King God damn it. Stop altering Sauron to try and ship him and Galadriel for fucksake. Sauron is supposed to be an incomprehensible pit of evil that we cannot understand or fathom the depths of because of his original Angelic nature. He is one of the best pure evil villains ever. But no JD and Patrick just wanted to pull him down to their level I guess

    About the wars in the second age there are 3 conflicts against Sauron canonically:
    The War of the Elves and Sauron - is after the forging of the rings Sauron invades Eriador to take possession of the 16 - Eregion is destroyed and the Gates of Khazadum are closed ... Rivendel is founded when the Army under Erlond arrives to late to save Eregion and is cut of from the path back west
    Lindon is besieged ... The war is won when the Numenorians appear for the first time en force in Middle Earth ... and together with Gil Galad and his forces and the now releved forces of Elrond they annihilate Saurons Armies ...
    Second was Ar Pharazons expedition where he captures Sauron - this is after over a thousand years rebuilding his strength Sauron proclaims himself Lord of Middle Earth, which offends the usurper ... the might of Numenors armies is said to be such that all of Saurons underlings fled at the sight rather than battle.
    and the the battle of the Last Alliance

    I wonder if you know that the Showrunners in an interview that they spent over a decade having their work rejected by Studios for Movies and Television show.
    Also using Sonic debacle as an idea as a marketing ploy is not the case as it resulted in the Animation Studio being shutdown afterward.
