I think it's not just because she is pretty and he cares just about looks. But in life, people who are pretty are considered out of reach, everyone admires them and wants to leave a good impression on them. The "ugly " people are more relatable ones and you can easily form closeness with them cause you expect them to go through hardships in life just like you. While everyone thinks pretty people have it easy in life and they would never understand your problems. He even said that he was chubby and he felt more comfortable around person that is as well. But the other girl is probably perfect in his eyes, and that's intimidating. Plus, he was shy with both of them, especially in the beginning. It's just that Jianh was giving comforting vibes

I can so relate to Jiahn. Im pretty much a pessimist when it comes to relationships that I dont allow myself to have crushes on anyone because I automatically assume they wont be into me. I had a crush on a guy once and my inner demons said "Girl, you have a crush? On him?? Look at you and look at him. Do you think he'll ever like you?" And I'd be like "Damn, you're right" and just with that, I would lose my feelings for him. The whole premise of "If we never try, how would we know?" would not be applied by me, because I tell myself straight up that it would never work.

I think some people are looking to be upset, they clearly spoke to both girls. Especially the female high schooler and Jianh was shy around the boy especially at the start so saying he didn't speak to at the start her was partly because she was less outgoing at the start. Plus he did compliment both of them and said Jiahn was easier to talk to.
Pretty privilege exists for sure, I'd never argue against that, but don't automatically make assumptions about people.

Obviously looks has a lot to do with it but also the way they are coming across. Even if you couldn’t see the speakers the second girl seemed happier, more interesting, cheerful, engaged even when talking about struggles. Awkwardness alone is one thing but the main issue i see is that the first girl mentioned it felt like therapy and that’s probably because she’s carrying the weight of her hardships like it’s her banner of war and right out the gate too. And her mannerisms give off too much of that vibe of needing to be liked by others. People want relationships with those who bring out the positive, inspire growth and fun and help them appreciate life more, not one where they’re primarily carrying your burdens.
Agreed, everyone also struggles with difficulties in their life, it's enough that you already feel sorry for yourself no need to make others do the same, despite the struggle you're still stand strong to face it, and should be proud of it, life is life.
