    The aux output restricts the harmonics to those found among the Hammond drawbars, which should make it less harsh.

      Thanks, been wondering about that!

    these videos are so so helpful, thanks Omri. Also, I could happily listen to you say "chronoblob" all day, maybe I'll sample that !

    Hi Omri, this series is helping me to understand all the gems in this very popular module. I have an 84HP Nifty case with Rings and Pachinko and wanted to get a versatile oscillator as I don't yet have all the necessary utilities and space for a lots lots more. Would you recommend Plaits as a good choice for my rig or is there another macro oscillator out there that no one talks about that will work better? I'm into ambient, spatial type sounds also... Appreciate your expert feedback/recommendations. Thanks

      Hi! I got Plaits a couple of months ago, and I really love it as hardware. You will notice in this series that I mention that the sound is a bit to harsh at times, but that's not the case with the hardware version. I'm not so sure if there's another module similar to Plaits or Braids though. They are quite unique. But, you can check out the BIA from Noise Engineering. It's not a Macro Oscillator, but you can produce many sounds with it, and I love it for ambient as well. But yeah, for a small case, Plaits would fit really well.

      @@OmriCohen-Music Thanks Omri. I value your feedback. Was starting to feel pressured with so many modules on the market. Its daunting selecting just one to serve many uses in such small a setup. It was only when I saw your series on Plaits that I realized how many functions and sound sources it could generate. So I ordered one and now super excited to start using it. Your demos were great!
      I'm trying to get away from my computer and DAW also as I feel like it stifles my creativity and inspo. Will see how it goes... I know its impossible to do it fully but I'm aiming for as minimalistic a setup as I can get.

  • @thelanavishnuorchestra

    You definitely made some lemonade out of that lemon of a model of Plaits. Some of those bubbly sounds were really cool and I got some interesting ideas from this.

    I've learned a ton watching your vids, Omri...not just on the main topic, but the way you pull different modules into the process. I've learned more in 2 weeks than in all the time I've played with various rack synth simulators over the years. VCV rack is mind-boggling, but you make it logical...and human. Like on this one, constantly complaining about the sound you're getting. I can totally relate!
    Anyway, I do have a question...when you're adjusting the frequency of Plaits by octave, it seems your knob is stepped to jump a full octave at a time. Mine's continuously variable, and I can't find out how to make it stepped. Any light you can shed on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again, and keep up the great work!

      @OmriCohen-Music  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Dennis! I really appreciate the kind words, thank you so much! About the frequency knob, it's possible to right click any parameter in VCV and enter exact values so in the case of the frequency knob of Plaits, you can right click it and enter semitones so, for example, of you want to go up an octave, you just enter 12. If you want to go down, you enter -12. It's a good idea also to activate the tool tips under the view menu so you can see where everything is. I hope it makes sense :)

      @dkambury Před 3 lety

      Omri Cohen, yes, that makes total sense. I just checked again (at 16:19) and saw you type in the value this time. I’m not that fast yet :)

    some of the raw sounds from that oscillator are way too harsh - but as ever some interesting ideas. That quantiser is new to me - looks cool

    you do realize that the macro oscillator can be used in different modes producing tons of different sounds? you literally only explored 1/16 of it's sonic capabilities right now.

      Yep, that's the whole purpose of this series so in each video, I will use only Plaits in a certain model as a sound source. This video is all about the Harmonic oscillator.
