    Thanks for a productive training. I have watched many Shuffle bowing clips and yours was the best. One of the most important part of the training was, you included simple songs to demonstrate the application of the bowing technique. I like to see more of your clips

    Thank you so much. I watched this video to “just cover my bases” and didn’t expect to learn anything else about shuffle bowing. Man was I wrong - totally wrong. I enjoy this teaching style so much; the way you break it down, your explanations, and your shared experience. Thanks again.

      @@christenblantonmack1243 You must be a music teacher - or an educator on some level - your lessons are so well-structured and taught. Thank you!
      Do you teach private students? If so, are online lessons an option?
      PS-Love the Uff Da sticker. 🎵😉

    You really helped me! Thank you!!! You are a great teacher!! I´ve been looking to learn how to provide the ¨Shuff¨ in the shuffle. When I tried to describe it to fiddlers I couldn´t explain it well enough and they just never knew what I was talking about. It comes so naturally to a fiddler who has been playing for years. They don´t even think about it. It´s how to accent on that second string. Yay!!! I also loved you playing a few common songs using that technique.

    Great job Christen. I enlist with what your other commenters are saying. Your teaching style is very palatable. You deconstruct process into logical bites without boring us by going on too long about any one of them. Not too slow. Not too fast. Thank you. I am trying to get these basic bowing coordinations right with learning my first collection of popular standards like Whiskey Before Breakfast and St. Anne's Reel. Would love to see you cover one of those or similar.

    At the end you give some example for shuffle tunes, I cannot always correctly understand the title,it would be cool, if you'd write the titles in your description.
    Tanks a lot for your work!

    Great lesson! Thank you. I thought the shuffle was more of an up-flick motion in the wrist, and I just wasn't getting it. This makes so much more sense. More ergonomic, I guess the word would be.

    Ok, so you are not playing both strings continuously? You are only hitting the other string with the shuff?

    Fabulous lesson. I wish I’d seen this years ago. You really break it down. Thank you. Do you give online lessons?

  • @mrgroovestring
    @mrgroovestring Před 3 lety

    First off, I would like to thank you for helping me to understand the down and up stroke of pulse bowing. I'm having a hard time putting it all together in a song though, to get that swing. I guess that would be improvising, or fill in licks between the bow strokes. How do you improvise between licks and strokes??? If that makes sense.

    • @christenblantonmack1243
      @christenblantonmack1243  Před 3 lety +2

      If you can hear or listen for the bowings while you’re learning the left hand, like purposefully learn tunes in the context of a bowing, that helps a lot to get the swing. I guess how I think about it is: fiddle tunes can be played with any bowing (technically), but they feel more like fiddle music when you use certain patterns. So when I am playing or teaching a tune, I’m choosing different bowing patterns to fit the melody. The bowing patterns become rhythmic licks that melodies fit into. So when you first start working on a tune, listen for the bowing patterns you know. Try fitting the left hand into the bowings instead of getting all the pitches and then thinking about the bow. I hope this makes sense and can help you.

    Hi! I was just wondering how you can determine which fiddle tunes use shuffle Bowing?

    • @christenblantonmack1243
      @christenblantonmack1243  Před 2 lety +1

      Great question: the shuffle can be used in the vast majority of tunes. If you are trying to figure out if it fits, try singing the tune with the words “Down Shuffle Up Shuffle” or “Slur Shuffle Slur Shuffle.” This trick can also reveal if you really know the tune: if you can sing it, you can play it!
