He could have waited and picked up a wage for a 5 months, goes to show his integrity,he has made mistakes ofc like everyone does but he has done a very good job and should be more than proud of himself

Joey Barton would have a field day with the level of punditry shown from the woman today. At one point earlier in the show she was bemoaning the candidates we've been linked to and how she'd go for a Klopp or Pep, then later on offered caution how top managers don't guarantee success. Talked about how the Spain team were average compared to England and how they wouldn't get in the England team, then about 15 minutes later questioned whether we overhype our own players. 😐

He was being criticized while he was winning, ALL his criticism comes from the fact that he clearly has no clue what he’s doing or what he’s talking about, all his achievements are a direct result of luck and moments of brilliance by individual players.

He took us as as far as his talent allowed.
He improved the structure at the FA, and that may be his crowning achievement, but he doesn't have the instincts required, at the highest level, to get us across the line, even with the best players in generations. He repeatedly came up short, when it came to selections, tactics, and in-game management. He turned an attacking squad into 11 Gareth Southgates, over-cautious, defensive, slow .... boring. That's just about acceptable if you win something, but losing, playing truly awful, unwatchable, football, will be my memory of his time in charge.

In Italia 90 we needed 5 pens to scrape past Cameroon with a 50ur old striker up top we needed a wonder goal in extra Time to.squeak past a Belgium team that are not like they are now then lost in a sf on pens, its interesting how we view and distort history, I use Robson as he would be classed as a proper england manager. What about the others, capello? Mclaren could not qualify, iceland under Hoddesdon? Allardyce? When Southgate took over we had not won a KO game for 10 years. He has played 14 tournament games in the last 2 euros.and lost 2, one in open play. We had never won a pen shootout, the Swiss one was great, these are facts. The media do a flip flop where they hammer Southgate as they have done all england managers then flip it when the moronic fans like yourself who are unable to formulate independant thought all pile on the flip it again and make out they support him and the fans are the ones who hate him modern football is rotten.

I have never liked his style of football. Right back to his england youth team days when a young kane and shaw were a part of his team. For me his style was no different to capello who was incredibly successful in european club football in the 90s. Slow, cautious with controlled possesion. Defensively well organised for sure. Modern football has moved on from that tho. In some ways its come full circle back to the way that british footie used to be known for. "In your face" or high press is the modern way now admirably shown how to by spain throughout the whole tournament. Or at least teams need the ability to do both a high press or a low block whenever needed. He is a very good defensive coach. I will give him that. Plus a lot of luck with the run of the fixtures england always seemed to get. As a full on international manager tho far too cautious in the style of football for my liking. Thats the one thing he always got wrong for me. Never liked his slow methodical playing style. All the other crticism i have is therefore immaterial.

How is struggling past Columbia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Denmark etc and losing to Cech Republic, Spain and France an improvement? In these tournaments we have had 1 good win against the Germans who let's face it where not an amazing Germany team and a win against a bang average Netherlands side, those where our best wins. Where is the improvement? same old story, going out in the first tough match up. If anything it is a regression given the quality of football we played.

I'd tear my hair out if I had any left, everybody knows Southgate got us closer to a trophy than any other manager in recent history, the whole point is, we know we should have won at least one of them, Euro 2020. The criticism is only personal in as much as, we don't blame the players, we blame him because we saw he was incapable of changing the flow of a game when the opposing manager had made changes to get his team in control.

If I look at the big picture of Gareth Southgate's reign, he has taken England to a higher level, and I commend him for that. In the 2018 WC he exceeded expectations by taking England to a SF. However, in that game he handed the initiative to Croatia, and lost the game. If he had learnt from that and not repeated the same mistake in Euro 2020(1), England would finally have won a tournament, that for me was the big, missed opportunity. They may have gone into WC 2022 and Euro 2024 with a different mindset, really believing that they can win tournaments. Instead, they adopted a cautious approach and when they came up against quality opposition, they succumbed. Spain 2024 are a better team than Italy 2020(1), they strolled to the final, while England scrapped and scraped their way there.

England have the players to win major tournaments. But not the manager. Southgate in his defence has done great to transform England into semi-finalist, Finalist and his mannerism impeccable a true gentleman. His lack of decision making against Croatia cost us a world cup final slot. Against Italy, his lack of timing were awful. Italy couldn't believe their luck. Macinni had the bottle and knowhow to change it. England should have won that game 3 nil. His stubbornness and dithering tactics is his own down fall. In the semi-final against Holland is the only time he appeared to get it right with Watkins and Palmer and we all know what happened there. He has the defence solid as do the Spanish. If not for Pickford England would have been 3 down, but Palmer with a wonder strike brings it back to 1 v1 and Spain slightly rattled. It was the time for action. GORDON!!!! On the left, Saka the right. 15mins to go and win a major tournament, which would have been extremely harsh on the Spanish. Like England in the previous final. But what does he do? Nothing. Let’s get to extra time? Sorry Gareth haven't you learnt anything? Spain now given time to gather their thoughts 2 v 1 game over. Gareth mentions the depth of squad? So why doesn’t he use it???? To some up Gareth. Very good, but to win a major tournament you can't be a stubborn ditherer. It’s very fine margins. But at international football that’s the difference with success and failure. Well done Spain great throughout the tournament but once and only once did we see Spain vulnerable and it would have been an injustice had England won. But if Southgate had courage at that moment to change it. England now might have been European Champions? Congratulations to Spain with a go get it attitude manager. Good luck to Gareth also.

Two finals in 3 years and finishing runner up is one thing, but playing defensive football and making late subs and disrespecting the young players is what cost him his job, Southgate along with Steve Holland are Specialists in Failure. Southgate speaks well, as a player he was decent, but as a manager he is atrocious and he will never ever get another job again.
