I’m a LEO for nearly three decades. I carry a Shield 40 off duty because I simply don’t trust 9mm from my real world, first hand experience. 40 is simply a better round to stop the bad guy. 9mm is “adequate” but better options exist (as evidence by the invention on 10mm and 40). Bullet technology has helped 9mm catch up (it made the 40 better too) but 9mm will never be a 40 with larger diameter, higher energy, and better intermediate barrier penetration. Be safe out there.

I've had my 1.0 for years now and absolutely love it. Never a single problem! It's a laser pointer.. Just remember to stick with lighter weight if you're carrying hollowpoints out of such a short barrel. 165gr is the sweet spot for still getting reliable expansion along with softer recoil.
A mag plate with pinkie extension makes a huge difference with no extra print, as well as a good set of night sights being invaluable.
Trijicon make some fantastic yellow or orange dot with blacked out rear, and XS systems make their Big Dot, which is an angle rear and really big tritium center white dot front that works fantastic.
    Good video. 😃

Carry my 9mm 1.0 at work every day. It's got scuffs and looks like it's carried every day. Still functions perfectly. Everyone at work knows I carry. I live in the high humidity of the south east coast, so I wear polo shirts and shorts most of the year. This firearm is the perfect size for concealment for my work environment. I know it will do the job if needed. No need to change if something just works for ones lifestyle. I do carry a M&P 9mm 2.0 compact in the winter months (about 3 months out of the year) when heavier clothing is needed.

Great video and thanks. I have this gun but until just recently, have stuck with my G26 for most EDC use. Now though, I'm starting to work more with the Shield and also a Kahr PM9 as both are flat guns. In rapid fire drills, the Kahr is harder for me to shoot well but I am getting better with it and it just disappears in a pocket. The .40 just feels more confidence inspiring then my various 9's when I'm out in the woods.

The .40 Shield 1.0 was the first Shield I fired. I personally found the recoil impulse to be less harsh than the G27 I carried at the time. Recoil from 180 grain ammo, either HP or TMJ training ammo that I had to use at the time made shooting .40s not fun as arthritis started to set in. The Shield is a pretty good concealed carry option. I ended up buying a 9mm version because it was rumored the Shield would be authorized to carry where I worked. Never materialized. Never considered a 40 Shield converted to .357 Sig, but I guess it’s something to consider, although I don’t see the .40, or even 9mm being less capable when encountering an IDPA cardboard with layers of cotton, denim, nylon, and/or wool draped in front of it. Then again, this is still America and we can tinker with things just because we can. I remember when a gunsmith in the south was taking fixed sight K-frames, rechambering them to .357 Mag, then cutting them down so that the overall profile wasn’t any larger than a two inch J-frame but would still take the K-frame speed loaders most cops had on their belts for their duty guns. Supposed to be the ultimate BUG but never really caught on. I’d thought about getting one, never did, and didn’t take into consideration how brutal it might be with 125 grain Federal SJHPs. Anyway…

mine is 40cal. 3.1" barrel shield m2.0 performance center, when shooting if you put a full mag in with the slide closed it's very hard to get it in. but if you lock the slide open first the full mag goes in very easily. and when you release the slide DON'T push the hold open button to release it! it's not made for that! just pull the slide a little and let go. i'm lovin the gun i was looking at the kahr cw45 but it's a $150-200 breakin cost, the factory say's don't call about failures till you run over 300 rounds thru it! ammo is expensive! all of the reviews on the s&w say zero failures out of the box! i'm not into lights or optics and i hate squared off trigger guards and rails so looks are important! lol i once sanded down the corner on a glock 43 trigger guard it turned out great you couldn't tell i did it! i promise not to do that to this s&w

That's not really true. The supreme court has already ruled on this. Once lethal force is authorized, it is authorized and it matters not which weapon you use and/or how many times you fire (or where you fire). Lethal force is the ultimate force, so you cannot charge a man for using too many or too few bullets. The way you describe it would make self defense a crime... like they can just make crap up and throw people in jail for defending themselves... but that is so outrageously rare that we only hear about like 1 case per year (at most) of the hundreds or thousands to millions of self defense uses of firearms. You can't go to jail for using lethal force in self defense when lethal force is justified.

I would also trust a worn (not to obviously worn) but i would trust it more than a new out the box gun as it’s more likely to have issues from the manufacturer than having 2 or more thousand rounds through it. Once it’s been worn in and tested that’s when it’s the most reliable!

@@J.R.F.23 Never say never. They switched to 10mm/.40 for a reason... because perfect shot placement was still not enough for the bullet to penetrate deep enough to strike the heart (which led to the one shooter to continue shooting for several minutes before finally being put down. I agree that 9mm is a better round though. I prefer capacity over power... but in most cases, capacity is not required. Only a couple shots are fired... and with a .40, there's a better chance that it will be more effective than 9mm (in most self defense situations). Capacity only matters if actually you shoot most or all your bullets (and don't have a chance to reload).

I don’t care what caliber it is. In a small package like that I intend on using it under 20 yards.
Any ammo and caliber should be fine for follow up shots in that range, for a man…

@@ColonelCarnage I would put my Walther PDP against your Glock 22 any day! I guarantee it is more accurate, has far superior ergonomics and accuracy. Plus it has a far better warranty than a Glock. The Glock was my duty pistol for 2 decades; I am extremely familiar with it.

and doesn't .40 wear out your gun faster? I mean, shoot whatever you want, it's a free country, but I would think "blue collar" would mean economical, and the "duct tape" of handgun calibers has to be 9mm.

Hey what are your thoughts on SOCOM replacing their Glock and Sig handguns and rifle for the 4 inch SW Shield 40 and MP Sport II?
