Yeah, it's powerful enough to break blocks, but like the Rock Mushroom is too fast and hard to control. They have the same concept really, but I think it works better in 3D than small screen 2D. This was just a chaotic headache of a power-up that I used purely to access areas.
For me, the "New" branding has been one of Nintendo's strangest marketing decisions.
It feels cheap and lazy

Idk man, the “New Super Mario Bros” series is just special to me lol. After all the times my siblings and I have completed it, fought over it and the amount of arguments it’s started, we still love it. Love it so much that we picked up the deluxe version and omg, that was fun.

i was bored out of my mind because of quarentine, so I picked up my wii u and decided to play the Super Mario Bros. on the wii, since there is a wii menu on the wii u so we could play Wii games. And oh god it was fun, we screamed and yelled and we decided to make it even more fun by just speeding through the courses, even if we lost our lives and had to restart the world, it was really enjoyable.

I'll be honest. I enjoyed these games quite a bit. They were all fun in their own way. Plus nostalgia if I'm being honest.

(Also I always thought the koopas dancing in sync with the music was a really dumb but charming touch)

While the blue shell is pretty stinky in the main levels, in the multiplayer star battle, this thing is top tier, it's like the golden gun from Goldeneye 64. All my friends would refuse to play the ice level because it was just too good when in the right hands.

I once got so mad while playing New Super Mario Bros 2, I took out the cartridge, placed it in a cup of water, and put the cup in my freezer.

I think the NSMB series has been hurt by the fact that they've been outclassed by likes of Kirby, Donkey Kong, and now even the likes of Wooly World or Sonic Mania in terms of innovative level design, soundtrack, and aesthetics.
Honestly to me, Super Mario Maker is the only really standout 2D Mario platformer of the last 25 years and that's due to the creativity of fan efforts more than anything.

Yeah, I feel the same way.
There's so many platformers to choose from now(both 2D and 3D) that it's really, really hard for Mario to have something that's good and stands out from other platformers out there.
At least for me anyway as I never had Mario as my first platform game, I just enjoy it's spin-off games a lot more.
Which sucks for me as all the Mario spin-off I used to like are just not good anymore.
(Especially Paper Mario, Mario Party and the Mario sports games)
