1930's Marx Wyandotte Toy Light Up Sedan Restoration

- I purchased this toy 1930s Marx Wyandotte Sedan on eBay July of 2020. It was in great restore-able shape for its age being almost 90 years old. The headlights were busted, wheels shot, lots of corrosion and had the original battery. I replicated a battery label to put on a modern battery in order to keep it as original looking as possible. I The color did not come out quite how I wanted but I was still very happy with it. Thanks for watching!

This kind of toy is much more stylish than today's and you make yours own replacement wheels, it's incredible !
Would you agree that old toys aren't the state of perfection, but they are way more kind and full of warmth than modern?
I wish toys like these were still around. Durable, simple and fun to play with. Not like today where everything is made out of plastic.
I know the critics will complain about details being covered up, and about the shade of green being off, but all things considered, it's very impressive that you were able to clean it up that well! I found the entire process very engaging and satisfying! I'm looking forward to seeing more :)
Thank you! I wasn't thrilled with the paint color but otherwise was very happy with this one. Thank you for watching and the kind words!
@@ChipChannelRestorations So, Its Key lime instead of Mint, either way you did an excellent job!
@@ChipChannelRestorations : Would it be possible to blend your own colours?
@@Frankowillo yeah, maybe use a vibrating plate to ensure all the pigment is completely mixed together after hand mixing. Although you'd probably have to do a few test pieces to see exactly how the colour would come out as it'll look different after curing, but if it works, you can just keep a note of your ratios for next time. You could even have little containers with premixed custom colours if you think you'd need them again soon
I find that the worn paint gave it more character. Now, it looks blah.
I have to say...I've watched you do this in the recent past, and, even as a woodworker - it compels me to get a sandblaster !!, set up a paint booth, and start collecting great antiquities to restore as a hobby. I do to furniture essentially what you do to metal keepsakes. It's very inspiring, thanks loads for recording your excellent & intriguing work. And, I also noticed that "cat-scan"... it adds a nice touch to the process. The finished piece is absolutely beautiful & Impressive ! Keep it up !!
So good to see when folk restore or make parts instead of just buying spares. A superlative effort all round.
Gggggggggcggttgggggggggg
Wtf is that profile pic
@@ameeralnabulsi6927 it's a sculpture I did. It's a human head with multiple eyes and a bunch of syringes containing a blue fluid stuck in it and a bloodstained bandage over the mouth. Thanks for asking 😃😃
@@stevecann3394 that’s weird…and I fucking love that! Keep doing you!
@@thefloatingeyeball2526 I shall, thanks!😃😃
Chip, this is a marvelous restoration. The paint job is excellent again.
Man, the best was the manufacture of the tires, they were incredible!👍
They lookes pretty soft and rubbery though, while the old ones seems to have been made rom some type of hard early plastic.
It is just incredible that the car body was stamped from a single sheet of metal! Great work on the resto!!!!!
& I also remember; the mid to late 1980s NBC children's Saturday morning cartoon series called, 'Kid Video.' This Saturday morning cartoon series was also distributed by DIC Saben Enterprises and LBS. This children's Saturday morning cartoon series; features Robbie Rist as a teenager, which means he's a little older in this series.
If I had a sandblaster, there would be NOTHING in my house with paint on it.
Right? LOL
That's almost true lol I got a small one and my garage is now rust free on anything I could fit in it. But my house is safe the wife guards that!! Lol
@Carolyn Thompson - IKR! that is, until you got your powder coat paint booth setup ;)
HA HA HA HA HA
A woman after my own way of thinkin. 😂👍🏽
.....the opening of it was awesome with the tow truck and the entire staging. Whimsical and full of childhood wonder.
The remake of the tires was the coolest! Also, a beautiful color! Great job, as usual! Thanks for sharing your skills!

Man! I love watching these videos...and as always, I admire the patience and detail.
YES! Restore them one by one!
I just love what you do. You take these sad forgotten toys and bring them to life again. It’s so beautiful.
You have a whole collection of old toys! There is something in these toys that is beautiful and eye-catching. A good memory of a bygone era.
The shout-out to Shawn the Sheep was brilliant! Well done!!
Beautiful.
The mushroom on the axle was really made beautiful by you! 👍👍👍😁
Chip Channel... Hands down the premier (i.e. legitimate, production, quality, etc.) CZcams purveyor of toy replica restorations. BRAVO!!!
There is also the “art” of locating and securing these wonderful 20th Century toys! All well done. I recognize the large investment in equipment you have made. Thank you.
I love how you can create a new wheel for the car I was pretty surprised about 👍👍❤️
As usual another great new restore. What a pretty car it is, I’ve never remember seeing one like this before? Thanks for letting us stay and watch with. you. Peace Out!
OMG excellent restoration and a kitty!
Love the cats.
WOW! I just enjoyed this restoration so much.
I love the older cars and trucks.
I love the little hood ornament pressed into the metal body. In my lifetime we went from almost every car having a nice hood ornament of some sort to almost no hood ornaments at all and I’m only 48.
Expertly done. You have this down to a science. I need to invest in a sandblaster.
Wow, gorgeous toys of before lasts forever. 👍👌💪🙏😎🙂
I like how you improve on the design when parts are missing or unrealizable such as some of the axels you’ve done and the floor of the Tonka Livestock truck.
Thanks for sharing your rescue of that great little car. Excellent work!
I love the new paint ya gave it
These toy cars of the 30's hold up better than the real ones of today.
That turned out beautifully and I like the shade of green it looks great. I always enjoy watching a part get sand blasted to clean bare metal. Thank you for the video.
Great video demonstrating ingenuity for tire replacement!
Only one problem... no way the wheels roll, they are oversized as are the axles. If only for display though, no worries! 👍
Beautiful job, Chip!! . A really old car, now in perfect shape. Thanks.
Back in the 30's that was a very expensive toy for having working lights and those that could afford a flashlight battery back then even to survive the all through the years if these toys could talk they would tell stories very good job on restoration of these toys. I have three nylint toys I passed over to my son that I kept in good shape
love to see those treasures come to life again!!
🏅🎖🏆Genial...se pasó master👍👍👍 Saludos desde Viña del Mar Chile🇨🇱
Once again, you made it better than it probably was when it was first made. I can’t believe you found the same battery! 💕♥️💕
Love the color of the tow truck!
Beautiful collection after restoration
I have four Wyandotte pieces...all "brand new"...old stock, never saw a child's hand, except this now 77 year old "child" A DeSoto Air Flow, a stake truck, a sedan/house trailer set and a sedan, almost a twin to your restoring project...no battery powered headlights. I'm also a standard gauge Lionel tin plate collector. That sand blaster really beats paint remover! Better than the day it was made! I was thinking...these charming toys would never hit the mass market today...unsafe for little fingers...today it has to be round and soft!
Thank you soo much for watching!
what a great mini treasure yard!
And I 💕❤️💕❤️ the end with the collection!!
Nice video,,,
classic car
thank for share
It adds to the awesome collection you have going on there. Nice to see the cat giving it the final inspection and approval.
Really cool toys back than!
Wow, that old dry cell battery looks cool
wow, simply gorgeous
10:53 what a poetic shot.
Good job 👏 I like it! Continue Wyandotte restoration please ....
Amazing
Looks great. Beautiful restoration. Thanks for sharing
I had to subscribe just from the playful opening. The sheep are adorable. And like others here, I appreciate when the parts are made, rather than bought, whenever possible. What a beauty when you were done. Great job
Чувак, ты лучший!
This car is like a Chip Foose restoration, bumpers off to chrome after they have been modified to sit tighter on the body, body itself to the fabrication shop for a few small details, new Foose wheels and modern day air suspension 🤪
That shade of green was certainly popular during 20s and 30s!
Simply Awesome! Making those new tires was really great to watch. The finished product looks like it just came from the manufacturer. Great job! 👏
By far the most soothing thing on the Tubes.
The second I saw the old battery I was thinking that would be an awesome battery holder, just carefully remove the guts from the old battery.
Shades of my childhood. I liked in it's old condition, a wonderful memory. Nice restoration work, though.
I LOVE the sheep! Them staring out reminds me of Children of the Corn.
Thumbs up for the sheep.👍👍
Love the sheep in the cars! I love how the light turn on. Wonder why they stopped doing that? The car looks awesome! 😊
The sheep in the "junkyard" XD XD XD wtf?
It's not often you get an antique batter along with your antique electric car. XD
The sped up fast hammering on the steel axle had me LOL’ing
Great restoration job. Love your green tow truck and one day I’m going to restore one just like you have. Same color also.
Nice collection and good Work.
Many many thanks!
Awsome, excellent! Castring the wheels, beautifully done. Very interesting yellowish light green colour: Kitty did the inspection at the end, the restoration passed with flying colours!
I like the patina. I would have fixed everything , but left the patina.
I can see of just how history is coming back to life. It's going to still get me to think of the short lived; late 1980s Ruby-Spears NBC children's Saturday morning cartoon series, it's called 'Laser Tag Academy.' This Saturday morning cartoon series, was set in the year 3000.
From time to time; I also still remember; this CBS children's, Saturday morning cartoon series called 'Pole Position' distributed by DIC Saben Enterprises and LBS.
That was almost therapeutic 😃
Como siempre muy buen trabajo todos los domingos espero con ansias ver una nueva restauracion de chip chanel felicitaciones.
Nice job, and what an fantastic battery comes out of the car :NOT leaking!!
Little green cutie 💓
Parabéns. Lindo trabalho. Você me fez viajar no tempo. Há uns 50 anos eu pintava todos os meus carrinhos de vermelho.
OH I LOVE THIS! I have a wyandotte truck that has a lighted compartment I need to restore!
First time on this channel...
My first reaction: what the heck is with all the sheep???
Great restoration, though! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
You can NEVER have too many sheep!
You sir are a man of many talents there doesn't seem to be anything you can't do very nice restoration once again.😊
Super!!!! правельно руки ростут 👍👍👍👍👍👍🙂
Ok, this is amazing work. Congratulations.
Great job as always! Amazing tire work, restoration, and editing. Thx
It's so nice to see everyone of those models restored back to their original shape and color. Excellent job brother.. 😁
Beautiful job!
Awesome restoration especially the new tires
Thank you very much for these ideas
An AMAZING restoration...simply perfect.
Kind regards, Ben
Great restoration, loved the way you recreated the battery. Awesome result 👏
Отличная реставрация, лайк! А малыш, который изначально в эту машинку играл уже глубокий старик...
Just another beautiful restoration!!!!
You have a great talent. The molding was cool.
Very nice. Must be hard to resist the urge to improve on the original. Can't wait to see you do that Airflow!
Can I just say, I'm both amused and delighted that while the original paint color was more of a Mint, you seem to have gone with a Key Lime, and I kinda love it even more, even though that color probably wasn't as popular for another 20+ years? lol ♥
Who knew that watching paint and rust get sand blasted off metal could be so relaxing 😌
On certain parts I would also be there so yeah
I just love what you, and all the Toys you restore, and the Tools that you have to do it! If we were neighbors, I'd be pestering you to let me help all the time! LOL
Everything is perfect! Great restoration!
Very cool restoration! Love the vintage looking battery too.
Офигенная классика..!!
Looks great well done.
Thank's for keeping it green. The tire process fascinated me!. But a little petroleum jelly on the shaft might help with the tires in the future. I like how you smooth the metal edges. Back in the thirties they did not think about safety as much as they do now.
Just a wonder job!! Congrats!!
Wonderful!
That’s patina paint was awesome
